Chapter 3

"You will go," Maleficent said, sitting down in her high-back green chair while filing her nails "You will find the Fairy Godmother and you will bring me back her magic wand. Easy-peasy."

"What in it for us?" Mal asked as the five Descendants stood in front of Maleficent. Grace put her arm on her hip, waiting for Maleficent's answer.

"Matching thrones," Maleficent said dryly, "hers-and-hers crowns." Grace frowned at Maleficent's answer, but she didn't expect something else from her. Maleficent cared about four things; Herself, being the worst villain, being powerful and last but not least, Mal, even though she'd never showed it.

I-um, I think she meant us." Carlos gestured to the five as a whole along with Mal.

Maleficent threw her nail file over her shoulder and motioned Mal to come closer, so she did. "It's all about you and me, baby. Do you enjoy watching innocent people suffer?" Maleficent asked her daughter.

"Yeah, who doesn't?" Mal replied, smiling.

"Well, then, get me the wand!" Maleficent ordered loudly. "Get me that wand and we can do all that and more. Because with that wand and my scepter, I will be able to bend the powers of both good and evil to my will!"

"Our will." The Evil Queen reminded and lowered down her mirror.

Cruella De Vil pointed toward The Evil Queen, agreeing with her while Jafar only looked up. Grace looked at her mother to see her reaction, but she was surprised to see that her mother was suspiciously quiet and calm. Grace raised her eyebrow as she made eye contact, but her mother just gave her an unreadable look. Grace sighed and turned her attention back to Maleficent.

"Our will, our will," Maleficent amended almost carelessly. She snapped her fingers to get Mal's attention again. "And if you refuse... you're grounded for the rest our your life, missy," Maleficent said and winked wickedly at her daughter.

"Wha-!" Mal tried to protest, but Maleficent quickly shut her up. Maleficent leaned down close to the railing and stared at her daughter, her eyes turning vivid green. Grace felt like she was watching a staring contest as Mal's eyes turned vivid green as well.

Finally, Mal looked away and said, "Fine! Whatever."

"I win," Maleficent said proudly.

"Evie!" The Evil Queen called. Evie rushed over to her mother. "My princess, my little evil-ette in training," The Queen said as Evie sat down, smiling excitedly. "You just worry about finding yourself a prince with a big castle and a mother-in-law wing--"

"And lots and lots of mirrors!" Both the mother and the daughter said together. Evie laughed dreamily, but the Evil Queen stopped her, "No laughing! Wrinkles!" She warned.

"Well, they're not taking my Carlos!" Cruella insisted. "I'd miss him too much!"

"Really, Mom?" Carlos asked, looking hopeful.

"Of course!" Cruella said. "Who would fluff my furs, touch up my roots, and scrape the bunions off my feet?" She propped up her leg so that Carlos was holding it. Carlos looked disgusted.

"Yeah, maybe a new school wouldn't be the worst thing of all." He muttered.

Cruella rolled her eyes and said, "Carlos, they have dogs in Auradon."

Carlos's eyes widened and his face turned from a disgusted look to horrified look in a second. "Ohh, no, I'm not going!" Carlos said quickly, shaking his head, and Maleficent groaned.

"Well, Jay isn't going either," Jafar said. "I need him to stock the shelves in my store." He turned to Jay. "Now, what did you score?"

Jay smirked as he produced all manners of any sort of stolen good from his gloves, his pockets andd his hat. Then he pulled out an old copper lamp. Jafar dropped the wooden spoon he was holding in surprise, snatched the lamp away from Jay, and started rubbing it excitedly, hoping for anything. Jay shook his head sadly.

"Dad...I already tried." The boy said. Jafar made an exclamation of disgust and tossed the lamp back to Jay.

"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU ALL?!" Maleficent exclaimed angrily. "People used to cower at the mention of our names! For TWENTY YEARS!" Maleficent pounded her fist on the table, Grace slightly jump back. "For twenty years I have searched for a way out of this island! For twenty years they have robbed us of our revenge! Revenge on Snow White and her little men."

"Ow," The queen said.

"Revenge on Aladdin and his bloated genie!" Maleficent declared.

Jafar raised his wooden spoon menacingly and shouted, "I will-" but he was stopped by Jay who was trying to calm him down.

"Revenge on Rapunzel and her idiotic hero!" Maleficent said to Mother Gothel. Grace turned around to her mother, who wasn't so calm anymore. Her calm look was replaced with a look of anger and disgusted. But still, she didn't say a thing. And now Grace was getting slightly nervous.

"Revenge on every sneaky Dalmatian that escaped your clutches!" Maleficent pointed at Cruella, and Cruella pointed back at Maleficent before smiling weirdly and saying:

"Oh, but they didn't get Baby. They didn't get the-" she started laughing crazily as she squeaked the squeaky toy attached to her jacket. "They didn't get the Baby! Ahahaha!"

"And I, Maleficent, Evilest of them all," Maleficent grabbed The Evil Queen's mirror, "I will finally have my revenge on Sleeping Beauty, and relentless little prince." Maleficent snarled, caressing her cheek while looking at the mirror. "Villains!"

"Villains!" Maleficent smiled at them all. "Our day has come." She looked over her shoulder. "E.Q., give her the magic mirror," Maleficent ordered.

"Yeah." Evil Queen said, pulling out a small compact and handing it to Evie.

Evie took it gingerly, "This is your magic mirror?" She sounded disappointed.

"Yeah, well, it ain't what it used to be." Evil Queen said. "Then again, neither are we." She joked, looking at Maleficent who leaned on the back of her chair. Both laughed, despite themselves. Evil Queen continued, "It will help you find things."

"Like a prince?" Evie said hopefully.

"Like my waistline," Evil Queen said.

"Like the wand, hello!" Maleficent said. Evil Queen agreed, "Hello."

"My spell book. My book! I need my - that book." Maleficent said. Evil Queen pointed behind them, and Maleficent looked.

"Oh. Ah! The safe, the safe!" Grace knew better than laugh at Maleficent's clumsily behavior as she tried to open it, to no avail.  "Queen, help me!" Maleficent demanded. "I never can figure this thing out!"

The Evil Queen got up as Maleficent banged a fist against the refrigerator before the Evil Queen just took the handle and opened it. "Viola." The Evil Queen said dryly.

"My spell book - come, darling, come," Maleficent call for Mal, taking her spell book out of the freezing. The spell book was covered in frost and was apparently very cold to the touch because Maleficent almost dropped it at the contact.

"Oh, there she is. You see, it doesn't work here, but it will in Auradon." She sighed, "Remember when we were spreading evil and ruining lives?" Maleficent asked The Evil Queen.

"Like it was yesterday." Evil Queen said sadly, remembering their old and good times.

"And now, you will be making your own memories..." Maleficent offered the book to Mal and Mal reached out to take it, but Maleficent drew it back, "...by doing exactly as I tell you." Maleficent said.

"Door." She told the Evil Queen.

As the Evil Queen went to close the fridge door, there was a car honk outside. "Ooh! Let's get this party started!" Jay whooped.

"Carlos! Come!" Cruella declared and Carlos followed his mother.

"Who is the fairest of them all?" Evil Queen asked Evie.

Evie squealed, "Me!"

"Ah!" Evil Queen shook her head.

"You." Evie amended.

"Better!" The Queen declared.

Over in the corner, Jafar said, "Now, recite our mantra." "There is no 'team' in 'I'." Jay replied. Jafar nodded, "Run along, you're making me tear up!"

Grace saw Mal followed her mother to the balcony.

"Come here, dear," Mother Gothel spoke up suddenly, startling Grace. Her mother motioned Grace to come closer. "I need to talk with you." Grace walked closer to her mother, wondering what she was up to. Mother Gothel grabbed her daughter's hand and walked into a room with big old books, which Grace assumed was the library.

"You were awfully quiet today." Grace pointed up. Mother Gothel let go of Grace's hand and turned around to her, an evil smile playing on her lips.

"That's because I needed to talk with you," Mother Gothel replied, and looked over Grace's shoulder to make sure nobody was around. "Alone."

They both sat in front of each other. Grace watched as her mother took out something from her pocket; A small black box. Mother Gothel opened the box, revealing a silver rose necklace.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" Mother Gothel said as she saw Grace's look.

"Where did you get it?" Grace asked curiously. It wasn't easy to get jewelry on the Isle of Lost, unless if you had stolen it of course.

"Doesn't matter," She said, almost carelessly, "what matters is what you will do with it."

"Wear it?" Grace said, confused. Her mother chuckled loudly, making Grace frown.

"No, dear, that necklace has a power, well it doesn't work here, but it will in Auradon." Mother Gothel said, examining the necklace gently. "Do you remember what I told you about Rapunzel?" She almost spat Rapunzel's name.

"Yes. You told me this story thousands of times. Rapunzel used to have healing power before her 'thieving hero' cut her hair and caused the magic to be gone forever." Grace said, remembering all the times her mother had told her this story.

"Yes. But lately, I've come to know that it's not quite true, dear," Mother Gothel said, "The healing power is not gone forever. Apparently, Rapunzel's daughter, Princess Anxelin, inherited that power and I need you to take it from her."

"How?" Grace asked, furrowing her eyebrows. Mother Gothel took the necklace and put it around Grace's neck.

"With the necklace of course." Mother Gothel replied, smirking evilly, "All you need to do is to get close enough to Anxelin and sing, and then poof! Anxelin's healing power is ours."

"And how am I gonna do it?" Grace asked her mother. "I'm sure the princesses in Auradon don't really put 'hanging out with villain kids' on their to-do list."

"You'll think about something," Mother Gothel replied "I know you will, and mother--"

"Knows best." The two said together.

"Good girl, you will get Anxelin's power and I will stay young and beautiful forever," Mother Gothel put her hand under Grace's chin, her gray eyes looking into Grace's brown eyes. "We will stay young and beautiful forever."

"What about the wand?" Grace asked, suddenly remembered the reason Maleficent wanted them to go to Auradon.

Mother Gothel scoffed, "Do you really think that if you get the wand Maleficent will share that power with the rest of us?" Mother Gothel said, "She is evil, we are all evil, we think only of ourselves. And besides, what's better than staying young and beautiful forever?"

"Nothing." Grace replied hesitatingly.

"Exactly. So you better not let me down." Mother Gothel said coldly.

The limousine waiting outside was sleek and black with a golden hood ornament which quickly disappeared with a swipe of Jay's hat. The back door opened and Evie ran to it, but before she could get in, they heard Cruella screaming "Come back here, now!" Carlos dashed around the Evil Queen, threw his bag into the car and dove in. Evie quickly got in after him, effectively cutting between Cruella and Carlos. "Carlos! Ingrate." Cruella said.

Grace looked at her mother, who was looking at her with a small, but evil smile, and then Grace slipped into the limousine, holding her red bag.

Jay jumped in, but Mal lingered at the door. She looked up to the balcony, where Maleficent watched. Maleficent pointed at her eyes, then at Mal. Mal nodded, then got in. The door was closed and the engine started.

"Bring home the gold!" Jafar shouted.

"Bring home a prince!" Evil Queen said.

"Bring home a puppy," Cruella commanded.

Then the five heard the engine revved a little louder and the limo started to roll. They were on their way to Auradon. Grace looked at her mother through the window. She couldn't disappoint her mother, she just couldn't.
