|| Chapter 9 ||

The day was slowly and finally coming to an end. You knew that doing your job without having Doni or Aaron around would have been lonely, but you weren't expecting it to be this boring. It was early evening and you were making your way to the meeting hall where the queen would usually be in order for you to report to her.

Mrs. Jenny was there to greet you right away after you had entered the big room, and the blonde woman who was sitting on her throne stood up and waited for you to approach her. Once you did that, you bowed down and informed her that nothing out of the ordinary happened.

"I see. Thank you for your hard work today. How about you take tomorrow off? You deserve it." The olive green eyed female smiled after having heard you out, and you stood up and thanked the woman, adjusting your clothes a little. "You may leave now."

"Y-Your highness, there is something I was wondering about." You started, not certain if you should pose the following question.

"Fotula and Liliana are both originally from other kingdoms, and both of them volunteered for the princess apprentice position. Why would you accept their applications?" You asked, looking the slightly older woman in the eyes. "I have nothing against them, that was not what I was trying to imply. It's just that... there are certain people who belittle them or judge them because they are 'outsiders'... Won't that make them uncomfortable?"

"I am a little surprised. You are the first one to ask about this matter." Queen Rin couldn't help but chuckle slightly. "The fact that they are not originally from Rota is actually a reason why I considered their applications in the first place. Besides, we are on good terms with both Kinola and Puleuna kingdom."

"I want our people to know that it does not matter where you are from, what gender you are or other trivial things such as what the color of your skin is. I want them to understand that everyone should be granted the same chances." The queen explained and you couldn't help but be a little touched by her words. You and everyone else who lives in Rota are very lucky to have such a person rule the kingdom. "Does that answer your question?"

"I-It does. Thank you for sharing this with me." You grinned. The woman nodded, flashing you a gentle smile. "You have reminded me of something. Would it be too much to ask of you if you could tell Lady Loraine to come here? There is something I have been meaning to talk to her about."

"Of course not, I will tell her." You said, bowing your head slightly before bidding your goodbye to queen Rin. You exited the hall after also having wished Mrs. Jenny a nice evening and you soon made your way outside. You couldn't help but roll your eyes at the thought of having to talk to Loraine, but there was nothing you could do since it was requested by the queen herself.

After having taken a few steps out of the castle you could already see the blonde girl at the main gate, sticking close to her white haired boyfriend. "There she is..." You sighed deeply before approaching the two.

Loraine noticed you first and as soon as you stopped in front of them, she glared at you. "You again, peasant?" Myron who had turned his attention to you as well, avoided your gaze while pursing his lips slightly.

"I'm sorry if I'm interrupting your whatever it is, but the queen asked me to tell you to go meet her." You said, crossing your arms in front of your chest while locking eyes with the blonde. She let go of Myron who she was having her arms around and brought her hand to her hip. "Yeah, you were interrupting. That hag can wait for all I care."

You instantly furrowed your brows at the girl's disrespect towards queen Rin. It took your everything not to lash out at her. "You won't get far with that attitude of yours, you better watch your mouth."

"M-Myron, she's threatening me! D-Do something!" The blue eyed female turned to the taller male again, pressing herself against him as she dramatically played the victim. The scene just made you laugh at how pathetic she was. "What, you're asking your boyfriend to hit me because you're too scared to do it yourself?"

The female dropped her act and glared at you. She raised her hand probably in order to slap you, but you caught her wrist before it made contact with your face. "Too slow. How about you try again?" You smirked provocatively.

"You little bitch." Loraine hissed, shaking your hand off as she stomped away angrily. You watched as she reached the entrance to one of the castle's many corridors and couldn't help but feel satisfied. In the past it was always her who managed to make fun of you and others and make you feel weak and inferior to her, but it seemed like the tables have turned now.

You were free to finally leave now, but you couldn't help but glance at Myron who had surprisingly stood silent all the time. "That's odd." You thought to yourself and actually passed on throwing an insult at him today and simply left with a sigh.

You were slowly walking through the village, a smile making its way on your face. Since you didn't have much to do at the castle today, you spent time thinking about how you could greet Aaron once he would come back from his mission in Puleuna. You recalled that the male liked chocolate a lot, and couldn't help but remember Camilla sometimes saying that the way to a man's heart was through his stomach, so you thought you could bake a chocolate cake for him.

You knew you didn't have all the necessary ingredients at home, so you figured you should stop by at a shop first. You were lost in thought, so you were almost startled when you heard a familiar male call out your name. "Y/N!"

"Doni? What a coincidence." You smiled after recognizing the blue eyed knight. He wasn't alone though: A blue haired, slightly older-looking man stood next to him. You remembered that the main reason of Doni taking a day off was because his uncle came to visit, so you guessed the man was him. "Are you Mr. Morty?"

The blue haired man couldn't help but laugh lightly, shaking his head. Doni chuckled as well, and introduced you to the man. "Uncle Morty stayed at home, this here is his lover, Falkner. Falkner, this is my beloved girl-bestfriend, Y/N." You felt really embarrassed to have jumped to conclusions, so you reflexively bowed your head slightly. "I-I'm sorry!"

"There's no need to apologize. It's nice to meet you." Falkner said, flashing you a smile as soon as you looked up again. You knew that Doni's uncle was coming along with his lover, but you didn't expect that person to be male, since it wasn't exactly legal in Rota. "What are you guys up to?"

"Morty and I came from Goldenrod kingdom in the Johto region. We don't plan on staying too long, so I thought I could get us a souvenir while we're here. Doni is familiar with the village, so he's accompanying me." The blue haired man explained. Doni on the other hand asked you what your plans were.

"I was going to drop by at the shop, there's a few things I need to buy." You said, hiding the fact that you were going to prepare a cake for his best friend. The blonde knight clapped his hands together as if an idea had just struck him. "We could go together if you have time!"

"Sure!" You grinned, nodding almost immediately. The day had been so boring without him or the other knight up until now, so you were happy Doni invited you despite having guests. The three of you agreed on going to the souvenir shop first, so that's where you were currently headed.

The store was small yet easy to find. The three of you entered one after the other and were greeted by a tall, white haired and somewhat older worker who also happened to be the owner of this souvenir shop. "Welcome!"

You all nodded at the man with a smile before looking a bit around. There was another, older man wearing glasses inside the store, but he was definitely a customer. They sold all sorts of unique things here: There were Helix- and Dome fossils as well as Old Ambers which one could find only in Rota and Grona. There weren't only rare objects, but also traditional sweets.

There was a set of porcelain plates with the legendary Pokémon trio Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres drawn on them which caught your attention, so you walked somewhat closer to them. The older customer with the glasses was also not far away from there, and spotted you.

You didn't notice him practically sneaking up on you, but you certainly felt something touch your lower back and instantly jerked forward, bumping into the small shelf on which the porcelain plates were displayed. The impact caused the frail objects to fall out of their place, one after the other. The one with the drawing of Moltres shattered into many tiny pieces the moment it made contact with the floor, but thankfully you were able to catch the rest of the plates.

"Great. What the hell was that?!" You said angrily after turning around slightly to face the older man, glaring at him while you held the plates in your hands. He raised his hands defensively, but soon got verbally assaulted by Doni who had seen what the man with glasses had done to you. "What's your deal, going around and grabbing random young girls' butts?!"

The two men had taken their fight somewhere else and you were left with the porcelain objects and a feeling of guilt. "Are you alright, young lady?" The owner of the shop suddenly approached you. That was to be expected since you had caused a commotion.

"I-I am, but the plate... I'm terribly sorry, I'll pay for it." You said, lowering your head a bit. The white haired man shook his head and took the remaining plates out of your hands, carefully placing them back on the shelf. "Please do not worry about that, I saw that it wasn't actually your fault."

You raised your head again and blushed out of embarrassment and kneed down in order to pick up the shattered pieces of what remained of the porcelain Moltres plate. Just as you were about to reach a sharp one, you felt the shop owner grab your hand gently, causing you to look up at him.

"Don't take them with your bare hands. You might cut yourself." The white haired male said, smiling at you kindly. You watched him pull a pair of gloves out of his pockets and put them on. You also noticed that his eyes had a peculiar color; They were golden. He looked quite older than you, maybe your mother's age, but despite that, he looked quite handsome.

"Y/N, are you okay?" Falkner asked once he and Doni had reached the two of you. You nodded before standing up, the owner of the shop soon doing the same. "I'm fine. Thanks for stepping up for me, Doni."

"I would have punched him if we weren't in public. The bastard even ran off." Doni said irritatedly before sighing. "Falkner got what he needed, so we're ready to go." After having said that, the two went to pay. You waited for the white haired man to finish since it seemed to be rude if you were to leave before him even though he was cleaning the mess you made.

Once he was done, both of you went to the front desk and the shop owner let Falkner pay, giving him a bag along. "How much is the plate?" You mumbled, already searching for your wallet in your coat's pockets. "Please don't worry about that."

"I'll feel bad if you don't let me pay for it." You said, looking the man in his golden eyes. He yet again shook his head. "It's alright, really. I need to close up now anyway, so you'd do me a favor if you wouldn't insist."

"Thank you very much, Sir." You said, bowing your head slightly again only to gain a ruffle of your hair by the man. "Make sure to come again." And with that, you left the store along with Doni and Falkner.

"It's already this late? All shops are closing up now... I'm sorry we couldn't get your things too, Y/N." Falkner said after looking at the position of the sun which was slowly but surely disappearing behind the mountains.

"Don't worry about it, I have the day off tomorrow, so I can take care of it then." You said, smiling as you ensured the older male, gaining a slightly surprised look of Doni. "So you're leaving me alone tomorrow?"

"Well, you abandoned me today, so we're even." You pouted childishly. Your expression soon changed after a thought of the Cameran palace had reminded you of something you originally needed to take care of. "Oh, crap!"

"Is something the matter?" Falkner asked somewhat confused. The blond on the other hand laughed at your sudden outburst. You rolled your eyes at the male before looking up at the blue haired man while scratching the back of your neck. "I sort of forgot to get my house keys from Camilla..."

"So, you're locked outside now?" Doni asked and sounded a little too excited for it to be a rather negative thing. "You could spend the night over at my place!~"

"Thanks, but no thanks. And I'm not locked outside, I'll just need to sleep with the door unlocked." You explained briefly and just noticed that you were slowly getting near your house since you have been walking all this time.

"Isn't that a bit dangerous? Jokes aside, you're welcome to come to my place. It's not like I plan on assaulting you or anything." The blond knight chuckled. You sighed because you didn't like refusing people so much. "I appreciate the offer, but it's fine. Really."

"If you say so." Doni gave in and reached into the pocket of his trousers. The three of you had stopped moving since you had actually arrived in front of where you lived together with Camilla. The blond quickly found what he was looking for and sticked his hand out to you. "At least have Momo stay with you for the night. I'll feel more at ease knowing that he's with you. And besides, it's our Pokémon."

You couldn't help but smile as you took the Old ball out of the knight's hand. "Alright. I'll take good care of him then." After hearing a bit more of Doni's worries, he and Falkner finally bid their goodbyes and headed for their home as well.

You entered your house and as soon as you did, you let both Momo and your Lucario out of their Old balls. Both Pokémon were a bit surprised at their respective presence, but they seemed to get along just fine a few moments after. You told your Lucario to show the pink Heracross around a bit while you took a shower.

After you finished with your short bath and changed into nice and clean clothes, you went to your room only to find your two Pokémon standing awkwardly. Camilla and her Lopunny weren't going to come home today, so you figured that they wouldn't mind if you'd borrow their bedsheets for tonight.

You took the pillows as well and placed them on your bed along with the covers before hopping on it and inviting your Lucario and Momo to come as well. The mostly blue creature turned the lights out first before joining you and the beetle Pokémon on your bed which you had arranged comfortably.

You thought that you could do something similar to a girls' night before going to sleep, even though Momo wasn't a female and neither did you speak their language, but you thought it would still be nice and it was a good way to get to know your new Pokémon better.

"So, do you and Doni's other Heracross get along well?" You asked, thinking that that was the simplest question to begin with. The pink Pokémon understood you perfectly and almost immediately shook his head, causing you to chuckle. "You don't? Does that mean you're rivals?"

Momo nodded this time, and it was actually obvious since both of Doni's Heracross were males and would probably test out their strengths against each other. After that, you ended up telling the pink beetle Pokémon about Camilla and her Lopunny, as well as about your past and dreams.

While you spoke you couldn't help but think about Aaron. If everything went well, then he would arrive from Puleuna kingdom tomorrow. "I can't wait to return to you." Even though he had only written those words, it felt as if you were able to hear his voice echoing inside your mind.

"I can't wait for you to return, either..."
