|| Chapter 10 ||

----------------------------------------------------
Rays of sun entered your room through the window, and even though the curtains deflected them quite well, they still managed to caress your cheeks warmly, slowly waking you from your rather deep slumber.
Your eyelids fluttered open and you almost immediately brought the palms of your hands to your face and gently rubbed your eyes before sitting up. Momo and Lucario were sleeping peacefully, one cuddled up against the other. After all, you three had stayed up until late last night.
You carefully slipped out of the covers and stood up from your bed, waking neither of the two Pokémon. You proceeded in changing into casual clothes and brushing your hair, deciding you should tie it right away since you planned on baking later on.
You walked past the kitchen counter to grab your wallet once you had silently exited your room and headed for the door. You swung your usual knight coat over yourself and hesitated before stepping outside; That meant you would need to leave your Pokémon while still unable to lock your house.
In the end you still started walking through the village promenade after mentally ensuring yourself that no one would enter your house, and in the slightest chance that someone would stumble on that idea, then the Pokémon would be able to defend themselves. After all, Lucario was very powerful, and Momo most probably as well.
The sun wasn't up too high, but it was just about time when everyone was starting to open their shops and restaurants. But you knew for a fact that the bakery was already active for longer than probably three hours by now, so you decided to drop by there to get the needed ingredients for your cake.
It didn't take you long, and as soon as you stepped inside the small store, you were greeted by the pleasant smell of freshly baked bread as well as your mother who was flashing you the most radiant smile. "Good morning, Y/N! How's work?"
"Morning, Mom. It's good as usual. Today's my day off so I decided I'd prepare something for my mentor who is coming back from a mission in Puleuna. I thought I could get the things here." You replied, looking around a bit. You didn't have the chance to tell your mother much about Aaron, Doni nor the others you met at the castle grounds, but the older woman already figured out more than you did. "Your mentor, huh? You're not trying to hide your boyfriend from me or anything, right?"
"O-Of course not! Sir Aaron is only my mentor! A-Actually no, maybe he's a good friend? That isn't quite it either..." You said nervously, waving your hands and arms defensively as you put down a jar of cocoa powder and baking powder on the counter. Your mother laughed at your flustered reaction as well as the red face that gave you away.
"A-Anyways. How much is it? Don't even think about saying that it's on the house." You asked after the older woman pulled out a small bag from under the counter, putting the two jars you got for yourself inside and shoving it over to you. You knew that your mother didn't like making you pay for things, but she doesn't own the bakery, so she would need to pay with her money, and you certainly didn't want to cause her trouble since she lived by herself.
"Alright, alright. It'd be 5.70 Pokédollars." Your mother said, you soon pulling out your wallet and a few coins out of it, handing them over to the woman who returned you the change. "I would like to talk to you about something. Do you have time next week?"
"Of course. I'm pretty much free after eight in the evening everyday." You replied, quite curious about what kind of topic you and your mother would discuss. The older woman grinned, her cheeks seemed somewhat rosier than they usually are. "Then make sure to drop by home Wednesday after you're done with work."
"Sure!" You said and bid your goodbyes before exiting the bakery. On your way back you couldn't help but think about several things you weren't paying much attention to before. "Has it really been a week since I've become a knight apprentice already?"
Once you were back in front of your small house, you noticed that there was nothing suspicious and that you had been overly paranoid; No one had even tried touching the handle of your door. You entered and tossed your shoes aside, taking your coat off as well as you walked to the kitchen with the two ingredients you had bought.
You displayed them onto the counter and took out the remaining things you needed from the shelves, including bowls and such. Your Pokémon seemed to still be asleep, but you really wanted to prepare the cake together with them, so you had no choice but go wake them up.
Momo was oddly lazy in the mornings, but once he realized you were talking about preparing food, he started acting excited. You decided not to tell him that the cake wasn't going to be for him since that might make his motivation drop again. You would figure out something later on.
"Alright, I'm not the best at cooking, so we'll keep this simple." You said, putting on an apron while also handing Lucario hers. You tried Camilla's on Momo, but it wouldn't fit quite well so you left him the way he was. "Camilla said that this is the easiest recipe we have and not hard to understand."
After that small introduction, you showed the two Pokémon what was written on the sheet of paper, analyzing the steps with them carefully. The first one was probably the easiest: You needed to preheat the oven.
After that, you needed to put all ingredients into the big mixing bowl you had prepared beforehand. The ingredients consisted of some flour, caster sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda, vegetable oil and vanilla extract. Of course, you also added some moomoo-milk and Swablu-eggs. Pokémon eggs are usually rather big and unpractical for cooking, the smallest were the ones of Swablu, Spearow and Starly which rendered baking as well as frying much easier.
"Momo, would you pass me the wooden spoon?" You asked, looking down at the pink beetle-Pokémon who cried happily, reaching for the object and handing it over to you. You could have easily grabbed it yourself, but you didn't want to leave out Momo who seemed so cheerful now.
After you had mixed the ingredients properly, you gave the bowl to your Lucario who added some boiling water to it before placing it back down on the kitchen counter. Now the brownish mixture was very liquid.
"We need the sandwich tin, Momo." You grinned, watching as the Pokémon went to take the mentioned object and back, giving it to you before you placed it down next to the bowl. All what was left to do was pouring the mixture from there into the sandwich tin before putting it into the now ready oven.
You sticked your finger into the liquid before licking it off, checking on how it tasted like. It didn't seem bad to you, but you wanted Lucario and the pink Heracross to tell their opinions as well, so you once again dipped both your index fingers into the mixture before kneeing down a bit and bringing them up to the Pokémon's mouths.
Both of them sniffed at it first, then had a taste of their own. Momo and your Lucario nodded in unison, wearing satisfied expressions. You regarded that as approval and divided the mixture into the sandwich tin before carefully putting it inside the hot oven.
What was left to do now, was heat the chocolate and add it to some of the double cream that had already melted in another slightly smaller bowl you had put it for the icing. You let Lucario take the brown snack while Momo helped. The three of you proceeded in pouring the melted chocolate to the ice cream and mixed both together.
You couldn't suppress the urge to try this brownish mixture as well, so you plunged your index finger into it and licked it as soon as you neared it to your lips. It tasted quite different and much sweeter which you liked better than the one you had before.
You let your Pokémon have a taste of it as well, and they seemed to like it as much as you did. The three of you needed to wait until the cake was baked completely before carefully pulling it out of the oven and placing it on a wooden board you had lay out on the counter, so that the hot sandwich tin wouldn't make contact with it. Of course, you didn't directly touch it either.
You went to grab two chairs near the dining table and shoved them closer to where you were going to finish the cake, so that your Lucario and Momo could stand on those in order to reach up completely and assist you. The two were grateful for your gesture and climbed on top of the objects, you standing between them after you had gotten three spoons. One for each of you.
It was quite hard for your Pokémon to hold their wooden spoons, especially Momo since he practically had only two 'fingers'. Lucario managed a bit better since she had paws and was already used to holding objects such as these since it was similar to how she uses Bone rush.
Before you could start with the next step, you moved the cake which had turned out nice and firm over onto a serving plate. After that, all of you dove your spoons inside the brown colored mixture, spreading the chocolate icing over the cake. You did that until you were satisfied with the end result.
"We did it, guys!~" You exclaimed victoriously, raising your hands up in the air as Lucario and Momo cried happily. It had gotten already past eleven by then. You knew that Aaron was supposed to return today, but you had no idea at what time which could cause a problem.
Then again, you could bring the cake to the Cameran palace, since the knight lived in one of the many rooms in that castle, and wait for his arrival there. That thought managed to shove all your negativity and insecurities aside.
"Lucario, could you get me that cloth over there?" You asked, pointing at the light green mentioned object that hung at the other end of the kitchen. Camilla often uses that one to carry around bread and fruit when she knows she won't be eating at home or for picnics with her Lopunny, so you figured you could wrap the cake along with the plate in it.
You did just that and were being stared at by Momo who you had forgotten to tell a small detail. "Y-You see, this isn't for us. It's for Sir Aaron. Remember Doni's friend? That one." You tried explaining and were honestly expecting the pink beetle-Pokémon to whine or be disappointed, but he didn't act surprised at all. Maybe your Lucario had told him already?
"Anyways, let's get going! Aaron might arrive at the castle any minute now." You exclaimed happily, giving your Lucario the responsibility to carry the sealed cake to the door where you slipped into your boots and knight coat, waiting for the two Pokémon to catch up to you.
Once they did, you took the dessert from your Pokémon, thanking her before all three of you left your house. While making your way to the royal palace, you noticed that a lot of villagers who were simply passing by started staring at your small group occasionally. Of course, the reason might have been the color of your Heracross, it was very rare after all.
You didn't pay much attention to those people since you were looking forward to seeing your mentor after such a long time again. Referring to him as 'mentor' did seem a bit wrong, just like you had noticed earlier today when you had a brief talk with your mother.
A few minutes passed and you were finally at the main gates of the Cameran palace where Myron was stationed by himself. It was a bit odd since there is usually someone more experienced than him along with the male.
The purple eyed boy caught a glimpse of something unknown to him that you were carrying in your hands so he approached and stopped you in your tracks. "Hold on. What's that?"
"I-It's none of your business." You said while your cheeks rose somewhat red, turning your head slightly to the side as you fastened your grip on the plate, careful not to ruin the cake though. Myron furrowed his brows before stepping in front of you and crossing his arms. "I'm not allowed to let you through unless I know what you're taking inside."
"So are you gonna tell me or not?" The white haired male asked and didn't seem like he would go back on his words. You puffed your cheeks before rolling your eyes in annoyance. "It's a cake."
"A cake? Why would you bring the queen a cake?" The young man asked, raising his brow. He was only stalling you more than he was supposed you, but you tried to keep your cool since making sure that nothing suspicious would get smuggled inside the palace was his job after all.
"It's not for the queen." You countered, your Pokémon standing behind you as if they were hiding from this persistent guard who didn't seem to be done posing you questions: "Who's it for, then?"
"That doesn't concern you." You said, frowning slightly while trying to lock your eyes with the male's purple ones. And strangely, he didn't look away immediately, like he would usually, but stared right back at you. You felt like if you weren't going to spell it out for him, then he wouldn't let you continue. "Look, it's for Aaron. Satisfied?"
"You really like that guy, don't you." The purple eyed male muttered loud enough for you to hear while distracting his gaze to somewhere else, just like he always ends up doing when he talks to you. "So what if I do?"
Myron blushed lightly and attempted to hide his face with his white bangs, still looking to the ground as he stepped to the side in order to let you pass. "I-I'm sorry. Go on."
You were once again a bit surprised by the male's apology since it was quite rare to get one from him, but proceeded to walk anyway. Your Lucario and Momo followed you even as you led the way through the corridors inside the castle.
There were a few guards here and there who greeted you on your way to Aaron's room. Once you were in front of it, you took a deep breath before knocking, in case the male had arrived already. There was no answer, so you assumed the room was empty and opened the door.
You were right; After all, it was still quite early. You were just too eager to see the man. "Pardon the intrusion.~" You hummed, entered the room and took off your boots, placing them next to Aaron's closet where you also put your knight coat.
Lucario held the cake while you did those things, but you soon took off the cloth you had wrapped around it and set the plate onto the desk in the room. You looked around a bit. You have been in here once before, but you didn't remember much of it since you were in a weak state back then.
"Ah, Doni should be here, so you're free to go see him if you want." You said, looking at Momo who glanced up at you. The beetle-Pokémon belonged to both of you, so you figured that he might be missing his male owner.
The pink Heracross seemed happy you had mentioned that and rubbed his head against your leg without hurting you with his horn. A happy cry escaped the creature's mouth before he hurried outside. You forgot that Momo was still not to familiar with the castle grounds, so it might not have been such a smart idea to send him alone.
Your Lucario seemed to be thinking that too, and nodded at you as if to tell you that she was going to make sure Momo would get to Doni safely and exited the room as well, closing the door.
That's how you were left alone in the room of Rota's most talented knight. You felt a little awkward just standing, and even though you were practically barging into someone else's room without their consent, you walked over to Aaron's bed and seated yourself on the edge of it.
You slid the palm of your hand over the blankets and couldn't hold back a smile. The last time you lied on this bed was when Aaron had lovingly taken care of you. Doni had also walked in on you two in this room and reacted funnily. Memories of this place were enough to make your cheeks rosy.
You unconsciously threw your body back and leaned your head on the pillow. It was unavoidable, but because of your position, you were able to smell the faint fragrance of Aaron that was left on the pillow.
You knew quite well that it wasn't a nice thing to do, but you turned your head slightly to the side anyway, inhaling the smell through your nose as you buried your fingers in the ends of the cushion.
You remembered doing something similar on your first mission with Aaron: When you were returning from the port on the back of a Tauros, you had also had the chance of witnessing the odor of Aaron, especially his hair's.
You were so lost in thought that you closed your eyes and didn't even notice that you had ended up falling asleep.
* * *
You thought you had heard a faint sound, but you woke up much later after it happened. You found yourself hugging Aaron's pillow quite tightly. You were so embarrassed, you were glad that no one was in the room at that time.
After sitting up straight, you put the cushion back on its original place and fixed the bed and stood up. You looked out of the window, getting a glimpse of the reddish sky and the sun which was already setting by now. It wasn't too unusual for you to sleep this long on your days off sometimes.
You glanced over at the desk where you had put the chocolate cake on, only to find it exactly how you had left it. "So Aaron didn't come today after all..." You mumbled and started walking towards the door.
"I guess, I should head home-..." And just after you had opened it and were about to exit, you froze for a moment, almost bumping into the person who was attempting to enter the room. You looked up and your eyes met the blue orbs of the knight in front of you.
Your lips curled up in a smile before you threw yourself at the dark blue haired male, soon being lifted up slightly. "Aaron! I'm so glad you're back..." The young man was very surprised to have found you here, but was just as happy or even happier than you.
"I'm glad to be back." He said silently, smiling to himself as he spun you around for a little, placing you back on the floor right after, but never completely letting go of you. You had your head buried in the crook of his neck, but moved it more downward until you ended up leaning against the young man's clothed chest.
You were able to hear Aaron's rather fast heartbeat, and felt reassured knowing that yours wasn't the only one racing. Your beautiful moment was soon interrupted by a mostly blue creature you knew quite well, and even missed, maybe just a little bit: "And here I was, almost looking forward to our arrival at the castle."
Your Lucario who stood next to Aaron's face-palmed, rolling her eyes at the male of her same species and watched as you and the knight slowly pulled away from the warm embrace. "It's nice to see you again." You grinned, knowing you would be teasing him lightly.
A small chuckle escaped Aaron's lips before he inhaled the faint scent of the cake in his room. "Is this chocolate I'm smelling?" He asked, gaining the attention of the two Pokémon as well as yours. You nodded proudly and stepped back inside his room. "Yes, we kind of made you a little something..."
Aaron as well as the two Lucario entered the room and saw the tasty-looking dessert placed on a plate on his desk. "Thank you so much! Have a seat and let's all eat it, I have plates and cutlery in here." The dark blue haired male said excitedly, pulling forks out of one of the drawers while he gestured you to sit on his bed. Of course, he had no way of knowing that you had slept there not much ago...
The man sliced four pieces of the chocolate cake and placed them each on one plate, handing those over to you, your Pokémon and his. He took his own plate last and seated himself extremely close to you.
The dark blue haired male once again thanked you for the meal and took a bite of the chocolate dessert. You didn't try it yet, but observed the young man's facial features while he grinned after having swallowed. "It's so delicious!~"
"I-I'm glad you like it..." You mumbled somewhat shyly. Aaron noticed that you hadn't touched your slice yet, so he grabbed a bit of his with his fork, nearing it to your mouth. "Come on, try it too."
Your cheeks were ablaze with heat, but despite that you parted your lips slightly, allowing Aaron to feed the cake to you. Small and what others would probably consider irrelevant things like those made you feel like you and the knight got closer even if it was only a little. After all, you had just shared an indirect kiss.
"Master, I don't understand why you need to give this brat a bit of your piece even though you both have the exact same cake. She could have just eaten her own." The male Lucario growled over-protectively, munching some of it himself.
Your Lucario seemed to have said something that had made him flustered apparently. You had no way of knowing what it was, but the male Pokémon's blushing face was enough to cause both you and Aaron to laugh: "You should read the situation a bit better, you might get it if you use your brain."
