Cats leaped from the undergrowth, collars spiked with teeth on their necks.

"BloodClan!" Goosepaw yowled before being mauled by a white she-cat.

Warriors and apprentices raced from their dens and joined the battle. Almost instantly, cats fell to the ground.

Rosekit watched the BloodClan cats battle. One by one, warriors fell to the ground, dead or terribly wounded. Some cats leaped back to their paws and rejoined the fight.

Dustsoul glanced at a crack between the stone and branches of the cave, and quickly pushed them in.

"Stay in there!" She meowed.

"Why?" Scarletkit responded, tilting her head.

"Because BloodClan is attacking and you need to be safe!" Dustsoul hissed, flattening her ears at the sound of her mate shrieking in pain.

"I need to go help them." She meowed calmly. "Stay in there."

Dustsoul turned to dash away, but a dark brown tabby stood at the entrance. "Going somewhere?" he purred.

Dustsoul hissed and arched her back defensively, causing Rosekit to shrink back.

Quickly the tabby lunged and sank his teeth deep into Dustsoul's neck, leaving an ear-splitting crack to echo through the nursery.

Rosekit watched with terror as Dustsoul's body fell out of his jaws. Scarletkit wailed and ran out to her mother, despite the tabby standing right before them.

The tabby looked at her with an almost unreadable emotion - sympathy? He quickly snapped out of it and growled. "Go on, run or I'll kill you too!"

Scarletkit's eyes widened and she ran out of the nursery, her brownish-red paws splashing in the pools of blood.

Soon the crimson pelt of her sister disappeared.

She stared back at Dustsoul, who lay motionless on the ground.

It took Rosekit a moment to process what has just happened. But when she did, it crashed over her like a huge wave.

Dustsoul was dead.
