Chapter 27

Rosepaw walked through the woods, watching out for any sign of prey. For a while nothing happened. Why did I even come out here? Everything's asleep! She thought.

The ginger sat down and sighed. She looked up at the stars up in the sky and smiled lightly. My whole family is up there...

Don't worry... someday, I'll be able to join all of you. Sister, mother, and father. She thought, closing her eyes and enjoying the peace of the forest.

A flap of wings stopped her train of thought and she looked over to see a black silhouette of what seemed to be a bird. It's black wings propelled it up into the sky, until it vanished behind the thick trees.

Now that Rosepaw noticed it, she began to see them everywhere. Birds of different sizes all hanging from trees.

She had never seen a bird quite like these before, and she was determined to show the clan. She knew the others would for surely know!

The feline crouched down and slowly stalked forward the unsuspecting creatures, and made sure that was the lowest branch. Why go for a high one if you knew you wouldn't be able to catch it?

Suddenly, she leaped into the air and grabbed one of them in her mouth. The others flew away, all heading towards the bright moon.

Rosepaw bit down onto the unsuspecting bird, and made sure it was dead before he dropped it onto the ground.

The ginger inspected it and made a discovery: This bird had no feathers!

Maybe it wasn't a bird after all. But what else could it be? Did this species not have any feathers?

All there was too it was some bony skin and big ears. It looked pretty tasty, maybe it's better than an actual bird!

She found a small dip near a tree and put it in there, covering it up with leaves. Not only were they fairly easy to catch, they looked pretty nice and juicy too.

Looking up from her buried prey, she noticed how many of them surrounding were still hanging off the trees as if nothing happened.

These guys are easy to catch! She thought happily, walking up right underneath a branch.

She stared up at them for a while, to see if they would do anything.

They didn't.

These featherless birds would rather hang upside down than to fly around and be free.

Oh well, their loss! Rosepaw smirked, leaping up and latched onto the biggest one wit her claws. It gave a small shriek of terror and pain, or a signal for the others to fly away as fast as they could.

She brought her prey back to where she buried it and picked both of them up. Their skin tasted a bit weird, but she was positive the meat would taste as good as the elders would say a turkey was!
