Chapter 1

Rosekit hopped around Sunkit and Featherkit. "Rosekit! Calm down!" Featherkit laughed. "We won't be apprentices for two more moons!"
"I know!" Rosekit mewed. "But it's just... Exciting!" Petalflower wrapped her tail around her three kits and pulled them closer to her. She began licking them in between their ears, and licked their fur the wrong way to keep them warm. "Petalflower, what are you doing?" Sunkit asked.
"It's leaf-bare, and I don't want any of you getting greencough," she meowed back. Rosekit purred as her mother began licking her- it felt good. It made her warm, and it felt good to know she was loved. "Why don't you three take some fresh-kill to the elders? I bet it's worth a story!" Petalflower suggested. The three kits raced out of the nursery to the fresh-kill pile. Rosekit grabbed a plump vole, Featherkit picked up a mouse, and Sunkit grabbed a small rabbit. Padding into the nursery, Rosekit spotted her denmates- Oakkit, Flamekit, and Icekit. Losttail and Blackeyes were telling them a story. "...the end," Blackeyes finished. Losttail motioned the three kits to come in. "This time I will tell a story."
Blackeyes got back into his nest and went to sleep.
"Long ago, back when the Clans' leader's were Thunder, Shadow, Wind, and River, there were many other rogues, loners, and kittypets who wanted to start their own Clan. They all traveled far to make their own Clans. Some places you traveled to there were two Clans, sometimes four, often there were three, and sometimes even five or six Clans. Each Clan was different. Their Clans work the same as ours do, maybe with a few differences. The end."
Rosekit's eyes were shining. She wanted to hear more about these Clans. Her mother, Petalflower, padded into the elder's den. She led her kits back to the nursery, and Dovespirit's kits were following. Rosekit overheard them talking. "I can't wait to be an apprentice, I want tomorrow to come right now!" It was Oakkit who was speaking. Rosekit suddenly remembered- Oakkit, Flamekit, and Icekit were becoming apprentices tomorrow! No fair, Rosekit thought. I have to wait two more moons!
Her thoughts were interrupted by Sunkit. "Hey Rosekit! Wanna play mossball with Featherkit and I?"
Rosekit nodded. "Yes!" she raced over to where they were standing. Pushing the mossball towards Sunkit, she meowed to Petalflower, "How come we have to wait until were six moons old? Why can't we become apprentices with Oakkit, Flamekit, and Icekit?" Her mother let out a mrrow of amusement. "I've already told you, and for the last time," she paused, anger growing in her eyes. "It's against the warrior code! Now please, just, stop asking."
Wow... Rosekit thought. I annoy my own mother?
Rosekit skipped back into the elder's den. Both Losttail and Blackeyes were sleeping. She nuzzled them awake, and Blackeyes hissed, "Can't you show some respect for your elders?"
Losttail yawned. "Can't you give us a break from telling you stories? We've told you all the stories we know..." Her voice trailed off as she went back to sleep. Blackeyes sighed. "Little Rosekit, you talk too much. Even the warriors agree. Maybe you should stop talking."
Rosekit's eyes were full of fright. "I talk too much?" She looked like she would explode. Fine! I shall close my annoying mouth... she continued to herself. Forever.

"All cats old enough to catch their own prey, gather beneath Highledge for a Clan meeting!" Rainstar yowled. Oakkit, Flamekit, and Icekit all gathered, as well as all the warriors. "The time has come to make three more apprentices," he mewed, turning to Oakkit. He turned to four apprentices. "And four more warriors." He then turned to Mousepaw.
"I, Rainstar, leader of ThunderClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down upon this apprentice. She has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend her as a warrior in her turn. Mousepaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and protect and defend this Clan, even at the cost of your life?"
"I do!" the pale gray she-cat exclaimed.
Rainstar continued. "Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Mousepaw, from this moment on you shall be known as Mousetail. StarClan honors your intelligence and honesty." Rainstar touched muzzles to the newly named warrior, and the same happened with the other apprentices. Volepaw became Volewhisker, Birdpaw became Birdwing, and Thrushpaw was named Thrushheart.
Soon Oakkit became Oakpaw, with Redfox as his mentor. Flamekit became Flamepaw, Nightsky was his mentor. Icekit became Icepaw with Whiteheart as her mentor.
Rosekit brushed her pelt to Icepaw, they had been best friends as kits.
