THE SELECTION
The selection is a tradition that our country has upheld for hundreds of years. From generation to generation, the competition has brought ladies (and gentlemen) to the palace to compete for the hearts of princes, and occasionally princes. It has worked wonderfully nearly every year. Only twice, has the Selection failed entirely or resulted in a bad match. Once a princess dismissed her entire court of suitors, revealing that she has no intentions to marry (quite shocking for her time). The other time, nearly a hundred years later, a prince chose a lady who was caught attempting to poison her new husband, in pursuit of the crown.
Not to worry, the vetting process is much better than it was two hundred years ago, and our Princes should be safe. And outside those two occasions the Selection has proven to be a trustworthy system of finding future royals. Even once the eye-color curse (or blessing) came down, it has continued to work.
However, this year we had an unusually small group of ladies, only eight for each prince to choose from. Was this a compromise to help placate Crown Prince Achilles, who has been very outspoken, a measure to help keep everyone safe from the threat of rebels that seems to grow every day? Or has the public lost interest in the Selection, and only a handful of ladies bothered applying?
Whatever the case may be, all eyes are sure to be on the Princes and their budding romances as the unfold over the next several months.
The Royal's Day
A week before the Selected arrived, the Royal's of our nation took a day off. All meetings were delayed, no reporters were let in, and they spent quietly time together, Discussing the upcoming events and their feeling about it. Now, no reporters were allowed inside, but I did learn a few things. It seems our grumpy Crown Prince has a soft spot for his siblings, but he is bitterly opposed to the Selection. The twins were reported to be much less vocal on their opinion, but didn't seem to mind it all that much. The Princesses seemed alright, but watch out ladies, these girls are ready to protect their brothers!
Meet and Greet
Ah the meet and greet, the first time the ladies get a real look at their (possible) future husbands. We saw that most of these ladies were friendly and wanted to meet the princes and the royal family! I talked to a few ladies and here's what they had to say!
"The Selection is a bit of an.......unusual way to find love." Violet eyed beauty Julianna Whiteside told me, when I asked her thoughts on the Selection, but she quickly added "But I believe it can be found. " Julie is one of the youngest ladies in the competition at only age 16, but she says it won't deter her. And from what I saw it hadn't. She was already playing a game with Prince Leo, and the two seemed to be rather close by the time the night ended. Is love already budding between the two?
I also spoke to Lady Elara Moon, (who owns her own ship!) who told me why she had joined the Selection "The selection is intriguing. I do wish deep down to find love but I'm also doing this for my younger brother. If I become princess I can help him get a better life. Right now I can't really do anything on a Captain's salary. You see I own my own ship." Is this noble or selfish? Joining to put herself forward, and just for the crown, and the things being a princess can provide, but to do it all for her brother? What are her real intentions here?
Now for the royal family. They all looked as wonderful as always, and they were very welcoming towards the Selected, despite the Queens slightly strict welcoming speech.
I saw Leo and Colin both conversing happily with their potential wives, and heard nothing bad about either of them from the ladies I talked to. I could also see that both of our princesses seemed to enjoy the company of the Selected as well! In fact they all seemed to be having a rather good time together. The King and Queen were also seen conversing with their (possible) future daughter in laws! The only one who didn't seem to enjoy himself was Achillies, and even he was seen dancing with a few ladies.
I also saw the siblings together several times, and they seemed as close as ever. Achilles may seem cold, but he certainly has a soft spot for his siblings.
Royal Favorites
Do the royals have favorites already? Let's see!
Prince Leo: "If I had to choose, Julia."
Prince Colin: "This is a hard question as I enjoyed talking to everyone, and honestly I don't know."
Prince Achilles: "None of your business."
Princess Valencia: "Ariana for sure! I really enjoyed taking to her!"
Princess Maebelle: "I'm not sure! They all seemed lovely."
