PINTEREST = INSPIRATION ≠ FREE RESOURCES

Our well-beloved app ever since we started taking baby steps into the graphic designing field. 👶

I'm sure many of us have started our designing journey by searching aesthetic pictures on Pinterest and making wonderful designs of it—

It's wrong.

Well not completely wrong but there are certain restrictions on which Pinterest pictures we can/cannot edit. You can use pictures of celebrities (that haven't been edited by someone else) for your non-commercial designs but please refrain from using other photographs without checking the original source first.

Some Pinterest users provide a link back to the original source of the image they upload (or they mention that it is their own) but some users don't. It's always a good measure to check whether the image you're using is free to use by using Google Lens or other image searching engines.

Also, using any sort of edits/art by other designers you find on Pinterest as an icon, banner or cover is straight-up plagiarism so please refrain from such practices if you want to avoid facing a lawsuit or worse, getting canceled by the design community.

ALWAYS ask the designer for permission before doing such things.

If you've read some articles / seen the news, you must've got to know how popular AI has become as it has become a helpful tool for humans across the globe. Yep, it can help humans achieve a lot of stuff in a short amount of time BUT— there are some issues— especially with Generative AI.

Recently, I've seen a lot of Wattpad users using AI art for their covers and even some "designers" doing giveaways of graphics they made using AI. But- sorry to burst your bubble- it's UNETHICAL.

Have you checked it? Good. I feel like Sam Yang has described this issue in the best way possible, with examples to back up his statements which is why I'm not going to speak further on this topic— otherwise, it'd sound repetitive.

Yeah, AI is helpful but it's getting away with plagiarising other artists who post their work on social media platforms. AI is also earning money through these means, and getting away with it through the legal loopholes in the judicial system.

Maybe, it's high time we evolved our Judicial Laws?

Using AI many people have been fooling the general public as well by editing pictures/videos of celebrities so they can spread their propaganda but no laws have been put in place to strictly punish such people. By the time these fake pics or videos are taken down, the damage has already been done.

IF you care about the rights of artists then please stop using these AI-generated images or AI image generators.

If any graphic contests/wars hosts are reading this, or peeps planning to host such contests, please introduce the rule of not using AI / AI-generated images for making these designs. AI can also be used to merge 2 or more pictures which means the "designer" who uses AI probably didn't have to sit for hours on their device to design that amazing graphic. They just ordered/paid a machine to do the work for them. Meanwhile, in the contest, the designers who really put a hella lot of effort into making their design would probably not be rewarded in a fair manner, because in reality, they were competing with a robot rather than a human.

PLEASE spread the word for the sake of artists and their rights.

There are so many kids right now, sitting in their art classes working day and night to improve their skills. But if they grow up only to realize that no one needs his/her/their artistic skills because a robot is doing everything, even for people without such skills-

It'll be heartbreaking.
