I can't sleep at night.
Not when the stars are that bright,
And the moon is so inviting,
Despite the morning's lighting.
I watch the shadows flow,
Listening to the world as it slows.
The wind howling as kin tuck themselves closer,
My heart still not much colder.
It's odd, when you're alone,
Not a pity to be thrown.
But maybe tomorrow it'll
Be something new and not so little.
I am the size of an ant on this planet,
Or a grain picked from smooth granite.
Wow, that's pretty terrifying,
And contemptuously paralyzing,
When I say
That dreams were never meant to come true,
Not now, not yesterday or even soon.
Old flowers die, and seeds burst and bloom,
I lie awake at night, hoping for the universe's clue.
I wonder if one day I'll find meaning,
But I know it's just another one of your lies.
I wonder if one day I'll find a gleaming,
Of what's it like to be old and wise.
(Tune speeds up, drums kick in)
So they say,
Life's a blast.
And a bright ray,
Of memories that actually last.
But you know that the good die young,
Just as the fallen before they ever sung?
Maybe I'm just too paranoid, too grim,
But know for sure I ain't no wimp.
Finding symbols wherever I go,
Chicken burgers and veggie pho.
I can't remember the last time
I spent money with my own dime.
But I heard it all tastes better
When it's. All. Mine.
Books are for fools,
The poets are too afraid to rule.
Leaders hum and politicians mock,
But I'm still looking for my missing sock.
Everything's moving too fast and wrong, without me
But I'm just trying to move along, can't you see?
It's contemptuously paralyzing,
A little bit sterilizing,
And I feel it all falling away.
Life. Is. A. Blast––
Life's a blast
And a bright ray,
Of memories that actually last
But you know that the good die young,
Just as the fallen before they ever sung?
Maybe I'm just too crazy, too mad
But you know what? For my music, I'm glad
That one day I might be recalled
Through the lyrics of tears balled.
As I write, as I scream
That I'll probably never get to be––
How I wish I knew me.
And so really,
Life's a lie.
But it's completely mine.
Control my fate, that's a fat no
But one day, I know I'll find my glow.
I'll find my glow.
