Please introduce yourself.
Hello! My name is Heather Sanders!
When did you join Wattpad and why?
I believe I joined Wattpad sometime in 2019. My sister-in-law was telling me about a story she'd read and when I Googled it, Wattpad popped up. It appealed to me that it was a place for book lovers and writers. So I decided to give it a shot and signed up.
What inspired you to start writing?
I've always loved reading and random ideas kept popping into my head. And they always start off as a movie, but I can't write a script to save me. So one day, I decided to try making it into a story and found that I enjoyed the process.
Tell me about your story that won in the Rose Gold Awards.
"What They Deserve" was one of those stories that I really only had 1 specific scene in mind and it kept playing over and over. So I had to get it written down. And then the rest started to flow and come together, even though there were some instances of writer's block. It's about a man that believes he needs to rid the world of women that he thinks are just flirts and taunts. When he meets one woman that is nothing like the rest, he actually feels that he can change. But something happens and...hopefully that sparked some interest and now people will go read it. ;)
How did you come up with the story idea?
I honestly don't remember. Lol! But I do know that the 1st part to come to me was the prologue.
How long have you been writing it?
I think it took me about a year and a half. I did a lot of editing as I went and even now, still am.
Who is your favorite character in your story and why?
Hmm...I actually had a lot of fun writing the bad guy. But honestly, all of the characters, except Bailey, are either twisted or jerks.
What is your favorite chapter/scene and why?
The prologue just because it started the story. It gives you an idea of what the women that come in contact with him have to look forward to. And I kinda feel like that was one of my best descriptive scenes. But, call me crazy, all the torture scenes were fun to write.
What do you love about your story? What makes it unique and interesting?
I love that you never really know the bad guy. You get these snippets of what molded him, but that's it. The reader has to guess the rest. And then there's the constant hope that one of the women will find a way out and that he'll get caught.
What do you plan to do with your story in the future? Will you try to get it published, or just keep it on Wattpad?
I self published one of my other stories (too soon; there is A LOT of editing that needs to be done) and I plan to do that with "What They Deserve". But, I'm gonna make sure I get the editing done first this time.
Have you made any other accomplishments with your story? If so, what are they?
I've entered this story into quite a lot of contests in the hopes of capturing the attention of readers who will mention it to one of their Wattpad friends. But each award I've won has always made me feel proud and excited, so that's a nice bonus.
Are you writing or planning to write any other stories? If so, tell me a bit about those.
I have several in the works, one of which I've had extreme writer's block for a ridiculous amount of time. That one is "Learning Together" and is about a teenage girl trying to cope with her widowed dad dating again. The self published story is called "HIS" and is available on Amazon. That one is about a woman that goes hiking on her own, in an unknown area and gets hurt, abducted, and sexually abused. I have an idea for a sequel. :) There are a few other stories, but they're just ideas right now.
