Chapter 14
We were driving to Nat's mum's place and on the way she was pointing out all the places important things happened to her,
"That's where one Christmas, Nathan got a remote control boat so we took it down to the pond and it sunk and that same Christmas, Nicole got her kite stuck in a tree!"
"I'm glad you'll share these small memories with me, they obviously mean a lot to you,"
"Yeah, I guess I didn't realise how much, thanks, I really appreciate it." She didn't take her eyes off the road but she smiled.
She pulled up at a rather large house, "That one, number nine" she said as she undid her seat belt. I got out and waited for her to, then we walked over to the door together. Nat rang the doorbell and a young woman who I presumed to be our sister, opened it.
"Hey, Nat," The woman said, hugging her, "I thought you were Mum for a minute, they've both popped out to get some food. "
"Hey, Nic," she replied. "This is Naomi,"
"Hey Naomi, I'm Nicole," We all walked inside and Nicole sat on a sofa with another woman and a man who had two children about the age of 9 sat with them.
"Hi Nathan, Hi Lori," Natalie bent down to the two children's level and sat down, "Hey Nate, Hey Natalia," I sat down with her.
"Hi Auntie Natalie," both children said simultaneously. The boy looked up at me and said "I didn't know Auntie Natalie had a daughter" I laughed at this to show I wasn't offended.
"No Nate, That's my sister,"
"She looks very young to be your sister,"
"I was 19 when Auntie Naomi was born,"
"Why is she not in any pictures or anything?" Nathan and Nat looked at me worried.
"It's alright," I said, I then looked at the boy, "So when your daddy was 19, your Grandma and Grandad had a 4th baby and that was me, but they couldn't care for another child so they sent me to live with another family and luckily my mummy is friends with Natalie. "
"Oh okay,"
"Sorry about that Naomi," Nathan apologised for his son's behaviour.
"It's all right, really, by the way, Happy Birthday,"
"Thanks for remembering. Natalie! Even Nicole remembered"
"Sorry, but you can't hit me this year!" Gosh, I overestimated the maturity of my siblings.
"Auntie Natalie, look at this!" Natalia exclaimed showing her a picture of a caravan.
"Is that where you're going on holiday?"
" Yeah!" The young girl said as she sat down on Nat's lap.
"Doesn't that look like where we went as kids?" Nat nudged Nicole.
"Yeah, I'm surprised you can remember those holidays, you were like 5," She replied.
"We didn't do many family holidays that I can remember masses of, we stopped doing them when Nathan was like 16 because he wanted to go on holiday with his friends instead, I was like 8!"
"Hey, I wasn't much older than you, I was 12!"
"You got 12 years of family holidays and I got 8"
"Life sucks being the youngest sibling, doesn't it Nat," I interrupted the argument. She was about to reply when the door opened. Nicole went to greet them.
"Don't worry, I explained everything to my mum and she said she understands"
"Thank You"
