Chapter 11

Tanna Carson

"Sorry, can't let you backstage. Performers and crew only." I look up at the security guard with a blank face.

It's been just over week since I moved here and right now I'm backstage at the venue for the music festival where the boys are playing in a few hours, or at least I'm trying to get backstage, but this guy won't budge.

"I'm here with Sunset Curve, you know, Alex, Reggie and Luke?" His face doesn't change at all despite me trying to explain it for the third time. "You know what, never mind, give me a second." I give up, taking  opening my phone to call one of the boys.

I click on Alex's contact, tapping my finger against my cup as I wait for him to answer.

"Hey Tan, are you okay, you said you'd be here half an hour ago?"  Alex's voice sounds through the phone speaker making me sigh in relief.

"Sorry, I went past Starbucks on the way here, but I've been trying to get backstage for the last ten minutes but the security guard won't let me through." I narrow my eyes at the security guy who looks completely unfazed.

"Hold on." I hear him talk to someone in the background, mentioning something about his drums before he returns to the phone. "I'm sending Reggie to come get you."

I mutter a thank you before ending the call and turning my head towards the security guard, flashing him a false smile.

I lock my phone, sliding it into my back pocket as I lift the Frappuccino to my lips as I wait for Reggie.

"Roomie!" Reggie's voice ring through the air, making my ears perk up as I turn to see him walking towards me. "Hey man, I hope you don't mind, I'm just gonna steal her. She's with us."

I walk towards Reggie as the guard finally moves out the way. "Thank youuuu."

Reggie wraps me in his arms as soon as I'm in his reach and I can't help but laugh.

"All okay Reg?"

"Yeah, just missed you." He says simply, making my smile widen.

It's crazy to think how after a week of living with these boys I've already become so close to them.

"You know you saw me five hours ago, right?" I tease making him laugh loudly.

"Five hours is a long time when you live with someone." I nod in understanding as he leads me to the boys with an arm around my shoulders. "I'm back with our roomie."

Reggies announcement was rather loud and I bit down on my lip as everyone around look over at us before returning to what they were doing.

I laugh, rolling my eyes as I push Reggie away from me.

"Heyy." He pouts at my actions and I wink at him before walking closer to the other two boys.

"Whatcha got there?" Alex says raising his eyebrows as eyes the drink in my hand. I roll my eyes playfully before holding the drink out in front of me.

"I should have known. It's a Hibiscus Ice tea." He takes the drink from my hand, taking a sip and handing it back to me.

"Mmmh, that's good." He says pointing at the cup as the boys just watch us intently.

"Did you guys just?" Reggie looks at the two of us, gesturing towards my drink then turning to look at Luke.

"You act like sharing a drink is the worst thing possible." I raise my eyebrows in amusement as I lift cup back up to my lips, watching the boys talk.

"Yeah Reginald, it's needless to say we passed that stage a few years ago." My gaze meets Alex's as he smirks, turning back to the boys.

"Wait, what does that mean?"

"You're confusing him on purpose now Al." I say giggling softly as my eyes watch Reggie's pouted expression. "Alex and I used to date?"

My sentence comes out more of a question as my mind wonders back.

We figured since everyone thought we were a couple, we might as well try it out.

Considering how close we were, It didn't really change anything between us.

It was exactly like our friendship, just adding in times we started kissing each other, which definitely didn't happen before we were dating.

That maybe lasted about two months, we figured that our friendship was better off as just that, a friendship, exactly what we had without the kissing.

"No ways, so like you and Luke?" Reggie asks flashing his eyes to Alex as my eyebrows furrow inwards.

I keep the cup still against my lips trying to comprehend what Reggie just said.

I tap my fingers across the plastic cup, moving it away from my lips as I tilt my head in Alex's direction.

"You and Luke?" I ask inquisitively, wondering why this was the first time I was hearing about this.

Of course I knew that Alex was gay, I was actually the first person he told because he knew I would never judge him, but this, this was new information and considering we usually told each other everything, I was a bit confused.

"Um, yeah?" He says hesitantly, obviously aware of the fact that my mood had shifted slightly.

"I-" I get cut off by the sound of my phone ringing from my pocket, giving me the chance walking away.

"Reggie dude." I hear someone hiss as I walk further away.

Ella's name flashes across the screen and I click the green button before lifting the phone up to my ear.

"Hey El, what's up?"

"Tan how's Los Angeles treating you?"

"I'm already so happy here and I haven't even gotten around yet."

"Does that mean you're not going to the Sunset Curve gig at the festival today?"

"Actually, I'm backstage with the boys right now."

"I'm jealous, what are the guys like?" She squeals excitedly from the other side of the phone as my eyes flicker over to where the boys were standing.

"They're the best, you'll have to meet them soon." I hear her gasp as she mutters something to Adam in the background.

"Adam and I are gonna go grab something to eat so we can be home in time for their livestream."

"Poor Adam, still forcing him to listen to the boys?"

"Oh please, you know he's lowkey a fan." She scoffs sarcastically making me giggle softly. "I'll speak to you soon Tan, don't forget about me."

"I could never, tell Adam I say hi!" I end the call after saying goodbye and move the phone away from my ear, turning to see the boys talking to the someone from the crew.

I lift open my camera, taking a picture of the three of them and sending it to our Roomies group chat that Reggie insisted on making.

At the sound of his phone beeping, Alex lifted his phone to see a message from me causing him to look over hesitantly and furrow his eyebrows.

"Well? Open it!" I say walking closer to stand by the three of them.

"We should post that!" Luke says as he gazes over Alex's phone next to Reggie. He immediately takes Alex's phone out his hand before discussing a caption with Reggie.

"We're gonna talk later yeah?" I ask him softly seeing as the two other boys were distracted. He shoves his hands into his pockets while nodding hesitantly.

"I just want to talk, don't go all scared on me." I tease, noticing the worried expression on his face.

The last thing I want him to do is not enjoy his performance because of me.

I tuck my arms under his, wrapping my arms around his torso.

"I promise."
