4 - mii-chan

The bell rung. School just ended.

Megumi gets up abruptly and grabs his bag, heading straight for the door. Yuji's eyes follow him worriedly.

Is he going back to the alleyway? Yuji thought. He gets up from his seat quickly. One of his friends blocks his path.

"Hey Yuji!" His friend Tanaka grinned at him. "Wanna go hang out at this new place that opened downtown? Or are you visiting your grandpa again today?"

"Of course he's going to visit his grandpa again today." His other friend Nishinoya responded, like it was obvious. "Yuji always goes to the hospital after school."

Yuji's face lit up in shock. His grandpa! He was too concerned about Megumi that he forgot that we has supposed to go visit him in the hospital after school.

"Uh yeah, anyways I'll see you!" Yuji rushed out the door, hoping he could still catch up to Megumi. But grandpa! Yuji thought.

He was conflicted. He didn't want his grandpa to be alone, especially since no one visited him but Yuji. He had the nurses but that was different, with his parents overseas it was important that Yuji visited him, as Yuji was the only living family his grandpa could see at the moment.

But at the same time, if he lost sight of Megumi, then what? Would he go back to the same alleyway? Would Yuji be able to find him again? It wouldn't sit right with him, knowing Megumi would probably go without eating, making it two days straight where Yuji didn't see Megumi eat.

"Ahhh! What should I do!" Yuji shouted out. He got a few weird glances from some fellow students. Megumi was at the school gate about to leave property. He was going the opposite way of the hospital.

Yuji. His grandpa's word echoed in his mind. You can visit me anytime. Besides I have nurses around me for company, I am in a warm bed, and and I am being fed so I won't go hungry. I am being well taken care of. Can you say the same thing about your friend?

You're right grandpa, Yuji thought. His grandpa would probably want him to go after Megumi instead of visit him. If his grandpa found out Yuji visited him while letting his Megumi starve and sleep in an alleyway for the night, he wouldn't hear the end of it.

Yuji followed Megumi as stealthily as he could. He kept a considerable distance away from him, but was close enough so that he could see where he was going.

Why do I feel like I'm spying on him, Yuji questioned himself. Can't I just go up to him and clear things up so I can get him to stay at my place for the night? Why am I being so cautious?

Despite thinking this, Yuji decided to follow Megumi anyways before confronting him, as his curiosity got the better of him.

I wonder where he's going?

Megumi came to a stop. A bus stop.

Oh, so I guess he's going somewhere kind of faraway? Yuji pondered. He hid behind a nearby tree, careful so that Megumi wouldn't spot him.

Once the bus came they both hopped on board, with Megumi sitting at the back of the bus and Yuji sitting somewhat close to the front, putting his hood up so Megumi wouldn't notice him.

They took two more buses and did quite a bit of walking. It really is far, Yuji thought.

Once they got off again, Megumi walked towards a rather cute looking café. The storefront was colorful, with little chibi looking characters and hearts and rainbows in the display windows.

Why's he going here? Yuji wondered. He continued to follow him carefully.

Megumi walked through an alleyway near the side of the shop. He entered through the back door.

"Does he work here? Is he an assistant chef maybe? Or maybe he knows someone here?" Yuji considered.

Well I can't enter through the back door and I came all the way here so I may as well take a seat inside.

Yuji entered the shop. The little bell at the top of the door frame made a chime. He was immediately greeted by a waitress. "Welcome to our café! Table for one?" Yuji nodded.

"Right this way!" She gestured for him to follow her. "Do you mind the second floor?"

"Not at all." They walked up some stairs and he sat at the table, scanning the menu. All the foods were cute. They had cupcakes, cookies and different sweets, all in bright colors and in different shapes. Even the main dishes had little heart decorations on them and were shaped like a bunny or a cat.

He continued looking at the menu closely, with the menu covering his entire face. And then he heard a familiar voice.

"Hello I'm Megumi and I'll be your server today- Itadori!?" Megumi looked shocked.

"Fushiguro, what are you doing here? Hahahaha.." Yuji feigned innocence. "And your outfit!"

Megumi was dressed in a maid outfit. It had a short skirt and thigh high socks and black bow in the front. He also had a long black wig on with sparkly cat ears on top of his head.

"You look. Woah." Yuji was speechless. His mouth gaped open.

"What are you doing here!?" Megumi cried. "Did you follow me all the way here? Why?"

"Because I was worried about you!" Yuji answered. "I was worried that maybe you would sleep in an alleyway tonight and not eat anything so I couldn't help but follow you."

"But why did you follow me without telling me?" Megumi accused, crossing his arms.

"Because if I told you I wanted to follow you, you'd just refuse me right?" Yuji argued.

"Well you're not wrong." he agreed.

Just then, the manager walked up to them. He was probably the most unique looking person Yuji had ever seen. He was about 6 feet tall, with white-silver hair, and he had eyes that looked like the sky was in them. On top of that, he was dressed in the same maid outfit that Megumi was wearing, with cat ears on top of his head. "Hey, hey, what's all the fuss about? Is there a problem here?" He looked at the both of them, trying to ease the fighting.

"Well-"

"Nice to meet you Manager-san!" Yuji smiled. He got up and bowed. "I'm Itadori Yuji, Megumi's classmate."

"Oh, Mii-chan!" The manager clapped his hands together in delight. "You brought a friend from school to visit our café! How wonderful!"

"No he's not a friend-" Megumi tried objecting.

"Mii-chan?" Yuji interrupted.

"Yes!" The manager exclaimed. "Here, Megumi-kun is called Mii-chan!" He gestured towards the name tag located at the breast of the Megumi's outfit.

"Haha that's cute! Miii-chan~" Yuji said with a sing-song voice.

"Don't call me that!" Megumi shouted.

"A-a-a~" The manager pointed. "Since your nickname here is Mii-chan, that means our customer's are allowed to call you Mii-chan. Feel free to address him by Mii-chan all you want!"

"Alright! Mii-chan~" Yuji teased.

Megumi had on a look of immense irritation.

"And because you are our esteemed customer, you can also be addressed the way you want!" The manager continued. "What would you like to be called? Your Highness? Master?"

"M-master-?" Yuji said, in disbelief.

"No way!" Megumi interjected.

"Mii-chan you can't refuse!" The manager countered.

"No, no. It's fine, master is a bit much." Yuji admitted. "Maybe. Uh, Yuji-kun?" Yuji went shy at the thought. He's always wanted to be on a first name basis with Megumi but he's always been to shy to bring it up. Maybe now's their chance?

"Yuji-kun! What a pretty name." The manager gushed. "Go on Mii-chan, call him 'Yuji-kun' " He urged Megumi on.

Megumi blushed and pouted, his eyes wouldn't meet Yuji's. "Y...Yuji-kun"

Suddenly Yuji's heart made a 'baddum!' sound. That was absolutely adorable, Yuji thought.

"Anyways I'll go get your food!" Megumi turned and stormed off. It turns out there was a giant white bow at the back of the outfit too.

"Wait Mii-chan! You didn't get Yuji-kun's order yet! Mii-chan!" The manager went after him.

-------

After Yuji received his food, he ate in silence as he watched Megumi serve tables. Megumi would put on a bright adorable smile, capturing the hearts of all the customers. There were quite a number of customers who even personally requested for Megumi to be their server.

Not surprising, Yuji thought. Megumi was so beautiful it was almost unreal. He was also very feminine looking, so the maid outfit suited him well. In fact with Megumi's good looks, he could probably pull off any outfit. Even a garbage bag would look good on Megumi.

Yuji tried doing homework while waiting at the café but he realized he barely understood anything, so he just gave up and texted friends and played games on his phone, while looking up to see how Megumi was doing every 10 or so minutes.

Hours passed and soon Yuji noticed that Megumi wasn't around serving tables anymore.

"Oh Yuji-kun!" The manager walked over to him. "What are you still doing here?" Don't you know Megumi's shift is over now?"

"What??" He got up. "No he never told me, thanks for letting me know!" Yuji rushed out the door, worried that Megumi really did leave without him.

To his relief, Megumi was just exiting the backdoor of the café.

"So ~" Yuji drawled. "How was work?" He grinned.

"I couldn't focus at all because you were staring at me the whole time." Megumi responded, irritated.

"Sorry, I couldn't help it. You just look really cute as a maid!" Yuji said.

Megumi blushed. "I don't look cute at all. I probably look super weird, acting all cute and wearing a maid outfit while being a guy."

"What? That's not true!" Yuji argued. "You seriously looked cute as maid. And who cares if you're a guy? Guys can wear maid uniforms too!"

"So would you wear one?" Megumi questioned.

"Well.." Yuji thought about it. "I personally wouldn't, but that's because I don't think it suits me. But it looks very cute on you! You're really beautiful, so I think you can pretty much wear anything!"

Megumi blushed again at the compliment. "A-Anyways. It's still embarrassing."

"So do you always dress as a maid? Is it a maid cafe?" Yuji asked.

"Yeah, didn't you read the sign? And the menu?" He pointed out, like it should've been obvious. "But we don't always wear the maid uniform. We have different outfits depending on the day." Megumi explained.

"Then what's tomorrow's outfit?" Yuji asked.

"...Bunny suit," Megumi replied reluctantly.

"Niceee!!" Yuji held up a thumbs up. "You'll look really cute in it!" He reassured him.

"Tch." Megumi flicked his tongue. "Whatever. I don't want you to see it so don't come" He began walking off.

"Why not?" Yuji followed him.

"Because I said so." Megumi responded, matter-of-factly.

"But I'm a customer!" Yuji argued. "Besides that café is nice. And they give out cute nicknames. Like Mii-chan ~"

"Don't call me that!" Megumi shouted. "Just call me Megumi."

Megumi. "Not Fushiguro?" Yuji asked, surprised.

"Fushiguro, Megumi" he waved it off. "Anything is fine, I don't really care. Just don't call me Mii-chan"

"Then.....Megumi," Yuji tested it out.

Megumi turned around. "What is it?"

"Nothing I was just testing the name." Yuji answered.

"Hm." Megumi kept walking.

"Are you going to keep calling me Itadori while I call you Megumi." Yuji asked.

"I don't see a problem with it." Megumi responded.

"It's weird if I call you your first name while you address me with my last name." Yuji remarked. "Let's just use our first names with each other."

Megumi relented. "Fine. Yuji. Are you happy now?" He crossed his arms

"Yup!" Yuji let out a big grin. They kept walking down the street, heading in no destination in particular.

"So why do you work at that café?" Yuji wondered.

"Out of convenience I guess." Megumi began. "The pay is good, and I was acquainted with the manager so that's how I got hooked up with this job. Plus he knows my circumstances and has helped me a bit so it makes things a bit easier for me. I guess that means I owe him a bit, and I hate owing people, but I don't really have any other options."

Circumstances? "What kind of circumstance-" Yuji was about to ask but Megumi turned around and glared at him. "-nevermind, I won't pry"

They continued walking in silence. Yuji was worried that he might have offended him again. He really needs to be careful when asking about Megumi's life.

As they were walking they passed by a familiar place to Yuji. The place where he ate last night. "Hey this is that Ramen Shop I went to!" He pointed at the shop with a red hood and a giant bowl of ramen displayed at the store front. "Last night when I found you in the alleyway, I went to eat here!"

"Why'd you come all the way here for ramen?" Megumi asked. This place was pretty out of the way for ramen, especially since there were many ramen restaurants nearby their school.

"They had a special that time so I wanted to try it out!" Yuji explained. "Ahh it was 100% worth it." Yuji remembered the taste of the ramen and the full feeling in his belly.

Then suddenly he remembered how Megumi didn't eat anything since yesterday. In fact he might not have even eaten anything yesterday....

"Megumi did you eat yet?" Yuji asked, worriedly.

"Yeah I had something to eat at work." Megumi responded. Yuji sighed in relief.

But wait, Yuji wondered. Megumi doesn't eat anything at dinner, lunch or breakfast. He never eats at school, so does that mean-

"Megumi, do you only ever eat once a day" Yuji asked.

"Usually, yeah."

"That's not good!" Yuji exclaimed. "C'mon" Yuji grabbed the sleeve of his arm. "Let's go get something to eat!" He pointed forward, eager to look for a restaurant to bring him.

"Didn't you just eat at the café? You were sitting there for 5 hours" Megumi noted.

"This is for you!" Yuji pointed at him. "Not for me. My treat. Pleaseeee?" He pleaded.

"No." Megumi shot his offer down quickly. "I don't want to owe you anything." He looked at the ground.

Yuji sighed in exasperation. Not again. "Again with the owing!" He said, irritated. "I don't want anything in return! Just let me do this for you. I'm not a loan shark or something, everything I do for you I do it because I want to. In fact if you tried to pay me back I would get annoyed."

"I-"

Just then, Megumi's stomach growled. As much as Megumi tried to deny it, he really was hungry.

"See! You're hungry aren't you? Just let me get you something. Pleaseee?" Yuji tugged on his shirt, pleading again, using giant puppy dog eyes.

"Fine" Megumi relented. "But nothing expensive" He turned away and kept walking forward.

"Great!" Yuji skipped in front of him, leading Megumi down the street, to look for a good restaurant to eat at.
