Chapter 58 // Plan B

•Calum

I could feel myself start to panic as I stared down at the ripped condom that was no resting in my trembling hands. "What do you mean it ripped?" Cassidy yelled, running over to inspect it.

I pursed my lips together. "I mean it ripped. But it's okay. You're on the pill, right?"

She shook her head, her blonde hair bouncing from side to side. "No, I got off of it once we broke up. Oh my God, Calum. How could this happen?"

I shrugged. "Well I am pretty big, so," I stated cockily, giving her a small smirk.

Cassidy stared at me for a few moments, blinking rapidly, obviously in awe that I said that in the middle of her panic session. Her lips barely turned upwards into an amused smile. "Okay that was kind of funny, but I can't believe you just said that right now. Did you like not put it on right? Oh my God."

She started pacing around back and forth, which is what I would have been doing if I wasn't still frozen in place. I was in no means ready to be a father. I would be twenty in a month and I was ridiculously immature for my age. "Well I haven't been home in awhile so the condoms were probably old. And I've had like three beers tonight, I'm kind of tipsy. I'm sorry."

"Sorry?" She repeated in frustration, still continuing to pace back and forth. "You can't just say sorry and make this all better! The uterus is a very unforgiving place! Oh my God, we're so stupid. I need to go get a morning after pill."

Cassidy started to retrieve her clothing and hike them over her body, muttering profanities under her breath. I grasped her shoulders to prevent her from frantically moving around any further. "Cass, it's all going to be fine. No matter what happens I'm not going to leave you and I'll always be here for you."

She shrugged my hands off of her. "No you won't. You're going back on tour in like a month and I'll have new movies to shoot! I got shoot a movie if I'm pregnant, Calum! God, the press is going to eat me alive if they find out. My entire reputation is going to be ruined. My life is going to be ruined. I'm only nineteen! I'm not even close to being ready to be a Mum!"

Her voice was loudly raised and I was scared someone downstairs would think we were getting into a fight. "Shh, Cassie. It's okay. Let's not worry about that until we find out. Want me to come with you to get the pill?"

Cassidy scoffed, fixing her dress in the mirror so she looked presentable. "I think you've done enough already."

I felt my jaw clench together with anger. "Hey this isn't all my fault! You shouldn't have stopped taking birth control!"

She sighed heavily. "I know. I'm just taking my anger out on you. I'm sorry. I just can't believe we did that at all. We haven't spoken in months and then we just have sex like it's nothing. And your mother is downstairs for Christ's sake! Oh my God, I'm such an idiot. I can't believe this is happening."

"Hey, it's okay," I assured her softly, not liking that I had to view her tremble with fear as she rambled off all her complaints. She had every right to be scared and upset right now, but I still hated seeing her on the verge of tears. "It wasn't nothing. It meant something to me. It was proof that we're still in love and that I always will be in love with you, no matter how much time we spend apart."

Cassidy collapsed into my arms, finally letting me hold her tightly against my still shirtless body. I pressed a kiss onto the top of her head as my palms rubbed her back in a soothing matter. "I'm always going to be here for you. I promise. I love you, Cassidy."

She went up on her tippy-toes to press a kiss to my lips, which still managed to leave me breathless. I have missed her kisses. "I need to go get Plan B.Tell your mum I had to go back to the hospital or something, okay?"

"Okay," I agreed, kissing her lips once again. She pulled away from our hug to make a beeline for the exit to my bedroom. "Are you sure you don't want me to come with you, babe?"

Cassidy gave me a light smile, even though her eyes conveyed how nervous and frightened she truly was. I was just as scared as she was, I just was trying to be strong for her and not show it. "It's okay. You can stay with your family."

"Hey Cass?" I called, right after she took one step out of my childhood bedroom. Her head peeked back inside. "Merry Christmas."

Cassidy chuckled. "Merry Christmas, Calum."

•*•*•

Usually I would wake up early on Christmas Day because I was so anxious to see what presents Santa had left for me under the tree. Today I woke up early because I was so worried about Cassidy.

I knew she was terrified of getting pregnant so young. Hell, I was probably just as terrified, if not more. Neither of us were ready to be parents; we're barely even ready to be adults.

I just wanted everything to go well and hope that the pill works because I have no idea what the two of us would do if she actually got pregnant. Of course I want to have children with her. I can't think of anyone else that I'd rather have to raise a child with. But I didn't want to raise a child now. Not when I'm on tour and when she's doing her movies. We'd either never get to see our baby, or never get to keep living our dream.

Plus I don't even know where our relationship is going to go from here. It's obvious that the two of us are still in love, but in a month I'm going to have to hit the road for another tour and we'll be faced with that long distance dilemma again. This was all too stressful for me. I just wanted to go back to the days when we were roommates.

I rubbed my palms against my tired eyes in hope that it would help relieve some of my constant worry. My body rolled out of bed, hitting the floor with a thud. A groan escaped my mouth as I realized how badly my muscles were aching. The combination of sex, a hangover, and tossing and turning all night was just a perfect recipe for being horribly fatigued.

My hand patted around the ground in search of my phone. I grasped it tightly as my eyes squinted to adjust to the brightness from the screen that illuminated my face like a spotlight. There were no messages from Cassidy, despite how I had desperately been trying to reach her last night.

I was aware that she was avoiding me and that she had good reasons to be doing so, I just really wanted to make sure she was okay. I also craved having her in my presence again. She was the one person I truly wanted to see on Christmas to make the holiday complete.

The stairs squeaked with each step I took down them. A mixture of the wintry scent from the Christmas tree and the smell of my father's signature scrambled eggs cooking on the stove instantly flew through my nostrils. I involuntarily smiled as nostalgia swept through my veins, reminding me of when I was a child and would smell these exact scents on Christmas morning.

"Merry Christmas, bud!" My dad called as he placed the spatula off to the side of the counter. He hugged me tightly, ruffling my shaggy hair with his wrinkled hands. "You okay? You look awful."

I chuckled at my father's blunt observation. "I'm alright. I'm just exhausted. The jet-lag is still such a killer for me," I half-lied. Jet-lag was affecting me, but the main reason I couldn't sleep was because my mind would not stop running with thoughts and worries.

He nodded. "Well, your sister must be pretty tired too. She's still asleep. So we'll have to open presents a little later this year."

I smiled at how cute my parents were. Mali and I were both older now and understood the real importance was being with our family again, not receiving gifts, yet they still continued to keep up with traditions. I was excited to give them my gifts this year, since I was giving each of them an all expense paid vacation of their choice. I just wanted them all to get a nice break from all their hard-work for a little bit.

My mum, who was sitting at the table sipping her glass of orange juice, glanced up at me. "Hey, I saw you and Cassidy go upstairs but I never saw her leave. Did something happen?"

I tried my best to keep my cheeks from burning up to a bright shade of red. "No, we just went upstairs and watched TV because Cassidy was embarrassed from the mistletoe thing. But she had to leave like right away because Mrs. Gold needed her at the hospital."

My mum nodded her, seeming to accept the story I had given her. If I ever have to tell them that I might have gotten Cassidy pregnant I would probably be eaten alive from my nerves and my hands would turn clammy and my throat would close and my face would burn up and my dad would scream and my mum would cry. I still can't believe I was so stupid.

"Well, we invited them all over to join our Christmas dinner tonight. I figured they are probably sick of hospital food and are too tired to cook anything. Plus, now that you and Cassidy are friends again we can finally get the families back together," My mum told me in a happy tone.

Crap.
