Chapter 37 // Bowling

•Calum

I dropped my keys on the counter, initiating a clinking sound to travel throughout the barren room. I spent a long day at the studio, but I was so happy to finally come home and see the girl I was in love with.

Cassidy was cuddled up in bed, the same bed where I finally was able to have one of the greatest nights of my life. It was the best sex I've ever had, even if it was sloppy and didn't involve numerous positions, because it was my first time having sex with someone I absolutely loved. It was the first time I finally understood why people would wait until after marriage, because it was such an amazing feeling when you're in love.

"Hi baby," I greeted, instantly smiling just at the sight of her. I climbed on top of her and bent down to press a kiss to her lips. "Guess what I found out today?"

"What?" She asked in amusement, moving her arms to around my neck.

I nuzzled my nose against hers. "So, a certain band is nominated for a VMA and a certain someone will be presenting the award in two weeks that this certain band is nominated for."

Her eyes widened with joy, as she sat up straighter, practically leaping to her feet. "Are you serious? Oh my God! I'm actually going to have fun at an award show now!"

I chuckled, wrapping her in my arms. "Are you going to be my date?"

Cassidy furred her eyebrows together in confusion. "Calum, your band is your date."

"Dammit, I always forget about that part," I whined, making her giggle at my half-joking behavior. "Well you better not get another date because you're my girl."

"I promise I won't get another date," She said in a light-hearted tone, still beaming up at me as she planted her lips against mine again. "How should we celebrate the big news?"

"Let's go bowling," I suggested proudly.

She rolled her eyes at me. "Bowling? Are we five?"

"We can get the whole crew to go. It will be fun, c'mon Cass," I pleaded, since I knew my competitive side was going to come out and I wanted to have some fun with my girlfriend and my best friends.

She groaned, obviously not too fond of the idea. "Fine, but only because I love you."

I grinned just at the mere sound of those words escaping her lips. I poked her in the rib. "Hey, you love me."

"If tonight is boring then I might have to take that back," Cassidy teased, laughing lightly at her own comment.

I tucked a piece of her blonde hair behind her ear, letting my finger linger over her cheeks for a moment. I smiled at her. "Baby, it will never be boring if we're together," I stated, making her smile brightly. "Now go get ready you lazy piece of shit."

A pair of uncomfortable bowling shoes constricted around my feet that were currently stepping towards the rest of the group. I somehow managed to convince the boys to show up at the bowling alley, and Bree only agreed because Cassidy was coming.

"So are we doing teams or what?" Michael questioned, slinging his arm around his girlfriend.

Luke chuckled, in that same laugh he always uses whenever Michael says something stupid. "Bowling is like an individual sport, Mikey. I mean, I don't know. At least I thought it was."

I shrugged. "We could like add up our scores though?"

"Alright," Cassidy agreed, since she always my little supporter that would make me feel like less of an idiot when I offered my opinion. "As long as you let me add them up, Mr. Dropped-Out-of-School."

I gently elbowed her, causing her to barely lose balance. She was grinning up at me, along with the rest of my band who snickered at her teasing.

"Okay, so, we need to make these teams fair. Obviously it can't just be Cal and I on a team because we would totally just kick all of your asses," Ashton declared in a joking manner, making my girlfriend crack up from her spot standing next to me. "That's why we'll have to have Cassidy join us since she sucks at bowling and it will even it out."

Her jaw dropped, even though I knew she was very aware of the fact that Ashton was just messing with her. I loved the fact that my friends have become so close with her because it made me feel good that they all liked and accepted Cassidy. Ashton giggled loudly. "I'm kidding, Cass. You know I love ya, kiddo."

She crossed her arms across her chest. "Well I'm not being on your team. I want to beat you guys now. Bree switch with me."

Bree didn't even put up a fight, which concerned me with how these girls were so obedient and non-dramatic- the opposite of what I would typically expect.

Cassidy moved closer to Michael and Luke, smirking at me slightly. "You guys are going down."

"That sounds so dirty," Bree pointed out, snorting as soon as the words left Cassidy's mouth. It makes sense as to why she is dating Mikey; their humor is nearly identical.

Luke was the first one to bowl on his lane. His neon colored ball rolled along the glossy alley until it collided with the pins, knocking seven of them over. He popped the collar of his jacket in a cocky manner, a nonchalant expression covering his face as he headed towards the ball return, making everyone laugh.

"Come on, Lukey," Michael cheered, patting him on the back.

It was only the first frame and things were already getting intense.

Luke approached the line, swinging his arm back that held the heavy bowling ball and rolled it down the lane. I bit down on my lip in anticipation. Luckily for us, the ball only hit one pin.

"You suck," I teased, picking up a blue colored ball since it was my turn on the other lane.

Cass was up next for her team as well, so she stood across from me as she waited for the ball that Luke had used since it was the lightest one. I held up two bowling balls to my chest, making them look like massive boobs. "Look, I'm Cassidy!"

She placed her palms on the bowling balls, pushing them down as she was giggling. "You wish they were that big, babe," She whispered to me, since the two of us were having our own little conversation in the midst of our friends' chatter.

"No I don't. I love you and your boobs just the way they are," I said in a sing-song tone just like the dork in me would do.

Ashton placed his hand on my shoulder, his eyebrows raising up towards his forehead. "Whoa, whoa, did I just hear the L word?" He nearly choked, a proud grin etched across his features. "Aw, my boy is all grown up! I never thought I'd say something so cheesy but you really bring out the best in him, Cass."

I could feel my cheeks heating up. I knew it was true. Cassidy was making me the happiest I've ever been, and her lovely character always rubs off on me and makes me want to be less guarded and more outgoing and open to others. She did bring out the best in me, but I didn't want to discuss this in the middle of a bowling alley.

Cassidy was grinning up at me, her emerald colored eyes twinkling with delight. She looked adorable like that. "That's cute, Ash. But sucking up to me isn't going to make me go any easier on you guys," She spat, picking up her ball and returning to the lane.

That's my girl.

Even though it was my turn, I waited a bit to watch Cassidy bowl. Not only did she have the cutest concentrated-game-face in the world, but her butt also flexed with every step she took towards the lane to roll the ball. Of course she got a strike, it was inevitable that her competitive side would make her even better.

Luke and Michael yelled loudly once all of the pins crashed against the floor, both of them jumping up and down. They were so lucky that she switched teams.

Cassidy was still squealing because of her strike, and Luke gave her a giant hug where excitement was just radiating off the two of them. Her arms were locked holding tightly behind his neck and he was clutching her by the waist, and my jaw clenched just from the mere sight of it all. I couldn't help but feel jealous, especially since they were so close to dating at one point.

I let my jealousy fuel my shot, but unfortunately it just threw off my game. I only knocked down eight of the pins, and the two pins left were on completely different sides, making it nearly impossible for me to hit them both.

"Come on, Cal!" Cassidy cheered as I got ready to take my second strike, earning an elbow in the ribs from Michael since she was rooting for the other team.

I wound up my arm and rolled it down again, but ended up getting a gutter ball and a pair of rosy cheeks that hinted my embarrassment.

"You suck," Luke mocked, grinning at me as he whispered something to Cassidy that made her burst into hysterical laughter.

"Alright, Bree. You gotta make up for me. Or at least just do better than your boyfriend," I instructed, making her nod her head, a mischievous smile on her lips when she realized that she was up against Michael.

I slumped down in one of the chairs, picking up some of the complimentary pretzels and munching on them. Cassidy was clapping her hands together for Michael, Luke was doing the same and was standing a little too close to my girlfriend, and Ashton was on the phone, his fingers rapidly typing away some message.

I hated the feeling of being surrounded by people and you get hit with this sudden sense of loneliness. But that's what I currently was feeling. And I wanted it to disappear.

Cassidy glanced over at me as I lifted another couple pretzels into my mouth. She frowned at me from across the room, since I was clearly not paying attention to the game. She swayed over towards me, sitting down in the seat next to me.

"What's wrong?" She whined, placing her hand on my forearm.

I shrugged. "I don't know. But I do know that you probably shouldn't be talking to the other team, missy."

Cassidy rolled her eyes at me. "Calum, it's just for fun. I can talk to whoever I want," She stated, but my face didn't even chane. She sighed heavily. "Is this about Luke?"

"Kind of," I admitted, amazed that she had the ability to read me so easily.

She picked up my hand, intertwining our fingers together. "Calum. I love you. Not Luke. We're just friends," Cassidy declared, but I still didn't mumble a word to her. She sighed again. "Calum, don't you think if I liked Luke I would be over there right now instead of sitting off to the side with you?"

I finally glimpsed over to her and made eye contact with her. "I guess."

Her palm gripped my face and she pulled me towards her, planting a kiss against my lips. "C'mon, I promise I won't hug Luke anymore if you get there and have some fun."

I crossed my arms against my chest. "You can do a better bribe than that, Cass."

She smiled when she realized that I was back to my normal self. "Okay, well, how about if you beat me in bowling then we can have round two tonight?"

I leaped to my feet instantly, tugging on her hand to pull her back to our group of friends. "Come on, Ash! You need to get our team a strike!" I yelled enthusiastically as he was about to take his turn.

Cassidy chuckled loudly, burying her head into my shoulder at my exaggerated-goofy behavior. I was always a moody guy, but I'm so glad that she was able to snap me out of it so quickly.

The rest of the game went on, the six of us all chatting and laughing as bowling balls were constantly being rolled down the lanes. It was still pretty competitive, but now we were all just having fun together and trying to do cool tricks and dance moves to make everyone crack up.

"I have the scores added up," Bree announced as we all began to untie our shoes, happy smiles on all of our faces. "Team Bree, Calum and Ashton won this evening by three points!"

The three of us cheered loudly, causing heads to turn to glare at us. My eyes met Cassidy's and I smirked at her, reminding her off the bet that she had came up with.

"You know what this means," I said to my girlfriend, scooting up to the seat next to her to whisper into her ear. "It's going to be a long night, baby."
