Chapter 1 // Premiere

Cassidy

"I think I have enough lipstick on already, Tiff," I assured my make-up artist, swatting her hands away from applying another layer of the creamy red color onto them.

Alberto was working like a maniac behind me, continously curling every lock of my golden colored hair. I peered through my false eyelashes that were also coated with the heavy mascara to notice that my skin seemed as bronze as ever and my faded blue eyes were contrasting with the dark shadow.

"Mel wants you to be out on the red carpet in five minutes," Tiffany informed me as she scanned the glossy iPhone that was on top of clipboard that held my itinerary. "Let's get you into that dress."

Another quick spritz of hairspray smothered my curls, then Alberto extended his hand out to help me get out of the the director's chair in the dressing room. A tight-fitting red dress that hugged my curves was draped across my petitie frame. My ankles were strapped into a pair of black stilettos and a diamond tennis bracelet was clamped around my wrist.

I didn't know a lot about life just yet, but I did know I absolutely hated movie premieres.

The only perk of getting all dolled up just to get your face blinded by constant flashing lights was that this was my film. That being said, I could do whatever I pleased to do since it was the movie I was the star of, along with my costar Troy Wilde. At least this time, due to a personal request, my best friend Bree would be able to walk the red carpet with me.

"Ready to go strut our stuff?" Bree offered, doing a celebratory shake in her green frock. I was always envious of her black hair simply because it always looked so pretty against the color green.

I linked our arms together and pressed open the door to the trailer. "Let's do this."

Almost immediately, all of the chants for my name grew louder and the lights began to flash. I hated getting my picture taken on the street by greasy paparazzi, but in this setting I soaked up the thrill of being the center of attention. Our hands found their way to our hips as we smiled and posed, trying our best not to sweat in this California heat.

"Cassidy Gold!" Ryan Seacrest called, waving his hand out to grab my attention and motion me to come over. E! News has always been nice to me so I figured that I would go there for my first interview.

"I'll be right back," I whispered into Bree's ear, allowing her to roam the red carpet as she pleased. A grin spread across my face as I glittered over to the E! News booth and I pulled Ryan in for a big hug. "Ryan! It's so nice to see you!"

"You too, Cass! You look stunning, as usual. Very grown up. I remember interviewing you when you first moved here from Australia when you were only like fifteen," He reminisced. "And now the big nineteen is coming up, right?"

"Yes," I mused, not being able to hide my excitement of my upcoming birthday. I loved celebrating the exiting of my mother's vagina. "I don't really want anything special, so I think I'm just going to donate any of the presents that companies send me to charity this year."

Ryan pointed a finger at me and turned to the camera, shaking his head in disbelief. "There you have it everyone, Cassidy Gold is officially the sweetest girl!" I giggled uncomfortably. "Well, congratulations on the new film. It must be very exciting to be a lead in a movie that is going to be up for so many awards. What was it like working with Troy?"

"Aw I just love Troy! He's one of the nicest guys I've ever met. He was always pranking everyone on set but he was still very professional," I gushed. "Plus, Troy is very nice on the eyes."

Ryan Seacrest let out a hearty chuckle. "So is there any off screen romance between the two of you?"

I shook my head rapidly. As much as I adored Troy, I really was not keen on the idea of having a boyfriend. "No. I'm single. I'm focusing on my career at the moment. Troy is like my older brother."

"Alright well good luck to you, Cass," Ryan stated, shaking my hand firmly. "It was nice seeing you again. Hopefully next time I see you is at the Oscar's."

I just smiled, my eyes most definitely glimmering with fascination. It was my dream to win an Oscar and I knew that he was an interviewer that was well aware of my aspirations. I searched the crowd for Bree and spotted her getting a bottle of water and chatting up some boy with curly hair who seemed utterly familiar.

"Hey," I called as I approached my best friend, reaching into the giant cooler that held free waters and grabbed a bottle for myself.

"Oh Cass! This is Ashton Irwin," Bree introduced and I politely shook his hand, glancing into his greenish colored eyes that were staring at me with admiration. He was definitely Bree's type- cute and curly.

"It's a pleasure to finally meet you! The boys and I love your films. We always watch them on movie nights," He told me, chuckling to himself after he finished his statement.

"Aw, thank you! Is that an Australian accent I hear?" I questioned out of curiousity, noticing the distinct sound. I ignored his comment about 'the boys' because I had absolutely no clue what boys he was referring to.

"Yeah! I'm from just outside of Sydney-"

"Ash, have you seen my iPhone?" A voice asked, cutting off Ashton in the middle of the conversation and interrupting him completely. I glimpsed over to the three guys who were coming over to Ashton and recognized the culprit right away.

Calum Hood.

My stomach dropped at the sight of him and I gripped my hand so tight against the plastic water bottle that my knuckles became white. My jaw clenched with fury just as memories from our past came flooding back through my brain.

"Cass?" Calum spoke in disbelief, his brown eyes widening as he did a double take.

"Don't you dare talk to me, Calum," I spat, stomping away from where we were crowded around and eager to get back on the carpet for once in my life. It all made sense now. His stupid band that he joined after I moved away was at the premiere. That's where I've seen Ashton before.

Calum chased after me; I could tell by the sound of his clunky shoes. His hand tugged on my elbow and he spun me around. "Come on, Cassie, don't be like that. Don't hold all of that stuff that happened against me. Can we just forget about it and start over? I'd like to congratulate you."

I rolled my eyes at him in disgust. "No we can't just forget about it! How do you expect me to forget about the most unforgettable event? We're not friends, Calum. We never will be friends again. Just leave me alone and don't talk to me."

"I never said we had to be friends, Cassie," He replied, making me cringe at the use of my old nickname.

I desperately wanted to reach up and slap his chest that was clad in such a sharp black suit. A loud growl escaped my lips. "I can't believe you had the audacity to show up here! This was supposed to be my night. You obviously knew this was my movie. Why would you ruin this for me? Are you really that inconsiderate?"

He scoffed loudly. "Well I hate to break it to you princess but I was invited to this premiere. You're not the only person from Sydney with a successful career. My manager told us we had to make an appearance so that's exactly what we did. Don't flatter yourself too much and think that I actually wanted to come here and support you."

I spun on my heel, letting out another groan in frustration at how annoying he was. "Wait. Cass, I'm sorry-" Calum attempted to say while grasping my forearm. Except this time when he spun me around, the water bottle in my hands slipped and it spilled onto my dress, leaving a soaking wet patch on my stomach.

"Look what you did!" I shrieked, pushing him away from me. Bree came rushing to my side instantly with paper towels, meaning that they had been watching this little encounter the entire time. Calum's band came sprinting over to us as well, offering me some more cloths to dry off my dress.

"Shit. Cass, I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to make you wet," Calum apologized, but then him and his bandmate with colored hair snickered at his last word, making it into some dirty joke.

I dabbed the towels against the red satin material to absorb some of the water, but nothing seemed to be working. I lifted a hand to my temple and pressed against the foundation covered skin to surpress my stress. With a heavy sigh, I glimpsed up at Calum in annoyance. "Why don't you do me a favor and go to Hell?"

His reaction to my furious words were priceless. Calum Hood was completely awestruck by the ice in my tone. I didn't care if the immature Calum was offended, he was one of the only people on the Earth that I truly hated.

Bree shuffled me away from him, waving a quick goodbye to Ashton. A reporter who must have been a bystander to the affair raced up towards me, sticking a cold microphone up to my lips. "Miss Gold, do you have anything you'd like to say about what just happened with the bass player from 5 Seconds of Summer?"

I smiled sweetly at the correspondent. "The bass player is an asshole and I have no affiliation with Mr. Hood or with his band. Thank you."
