Chapter 3
"DIPPER!!" A voice screamed from outside of the door. It wasn't angry, or negative. It was excited, loud, happy. It was Saturday, Dipper and Bill had no need to wake up, it was going on noon.
The door swung open, the knob slamming into the wall, the crash snapping Dipper out of his sleep instantly. Bill was slower to rise. Through squinted vision Dipper caught eye of the open doorway and who was inside it.
"Mabel?!" He shouted and sweat began to blot at his forehead. He forgot that neither of the boys looked that door. Bill looked up from where he was laying, his head crooked down near Dipper's chest and his hair a matted mess above his eyes.
"Dipper..are you..?" His twin's lips began to curve into a mischievous smile. She stared down in disbelief and hilarity. This was being misinterpreted in too many ways. He swung the blanket off of his body and leaped to his feet, dragging Mabel out of the room, slamming the door behind him. "Oh my god Dipper! The first week of college and you're already sleeping with people! Good job bro!" She joked with an all too cheerful smile. "I would have bet at least half a year before you had someone in your bed, but you're getting it on!"
"No, Mabel, it's not what it looks like!" She giggled and put a hand in defense.
"That's what they all say!"
"No, you don't get it! He's just my roommate and he spilt stuff on his bed and had to share my bed for the night!" He tried reasoning but she wouldn't believe him.
"Suuure. Well thought out lie there, I must say. Did you take notes from Stan?"
"Ugh! Whatever! But this seriously isn't what it looks like." He sighed, his face buried deep in his hands and a blush staining his cheeks.
"He's kinda cute, you scored big there, Dip!"
"Stop it!" They stood in the silence of Dipper's embarrassment and Mabel's satisfaction. "What are you even doing here?"
"Dude, we haven't slept in different houses ever! Not since the day we were born! Now you're off to college and you left your twin sister all alone!" She sarcastically pouted and tried to be cute. "I just wanted to check in on you. We should hang out!"
"Just...just wait here." He moved past her and opened the dorm door again. The wooden door hit something in the process of opening and Bill muttered a curse. Dipper slid his way in and looked at the blond holding his head, which had just been smacked with the door. "You were listening?!"
He laughed and looked up. "You never told me you had a twin sister!" He ignored the question and grinned. Dipper sighed and glared at the laughing blond.
"She thinks we slept together." He said in the process of undressing, pulling his shirt over his head. Bill whistled jokingly.
"You say that like we didn't just sleep in the same bed."
"She thinks we fucked!"
Bill's sly grin grew. "I told you I'm open for experimentation, didn't I?" Dipper just glared again and redressed in new clothes. He fixed his hair with his fingers and walked out the door. Mabel was twirling the tips of her brown hair with a bubbly happiness radiating off of her. She and Dipper both knew that she would tease him about Bill for the rest of the day, at least.
"Let's go out for coffee!! I saw a coffee shop on the way here!" She dragged him and his tired body off down the hall, out of the building, and to her car. She hoped in the driver's seat and Dipper stumbled to the other side of the car. As soon as he was in and buckled, she drove off. Surprisingly, she was a great driver, unless she was in a hurry.
The entire car ride, Dipper did nothing but stare out the window in relative quiet. The coffee shop wasn't too far away from the college, they got there in almost no time. As soon as the car pulled up, Mabel was out. Where she got the energy to function at speeds impossible for early morning like this confused Dipper to no end.
Dipper came out much slower, he was tired and pretty much regretting his entire last night. They went inside the shop which had just opened a short while ago. Dipper sat at a table and Mabel quickly got the two of them their drinks.
"So." Mabel began, after they had sat. "What's his name?" A little grin formed on the edges of her lips and she took a sip from her plastic cup of iced coffee.
Dipper sighed and redirected his gaze elsewhere as he answered. "Bill." His hands wrapped around the hot styrofoam cup in his hand, the drink was far too hot to enjoy yet. "And again, he's just my roommate."
"You said that already, Dipper." She thought of the words to use. "But do you like him?"
"Yeah, he's cool. His music's kind of annoying and he's a bit extreme sometimes, but he isn't a bad roomma-"
"That's not what I mean." She cut him off and smiled at the confused look on Dipper's face. "I mean, do you like him?"
"Oh." Dipper stared onto the floor and slouched back in his chair. A light blush formed on his face. "I-I don't...actually know?" Mabel's brow rose in intrigue.
"What do you mean, you don't know?" Her smile never stopped being present, which Dipper couldn't tell if that was a good thing or not.
"I mean when he kissed me I-" shit.
"You kissed him!?" Mabel almost jumped into the air, her wide grin on her face. "So you do like him!"
"No! No, Mabel, he kissed me!" She calmed down slightly when she noticed the stares she was receiving.
"Still! You guys kissed! And if he kissed you first, he sooo likes you!" Dipper just blushed and slid down in his seat more.
"Please, Mabel, he was drunk." He mumbled, unsure if he was upset or embarrassed. Or both. She seemed to tone down slightly at the mention of Bill's not being sober when they kissed. Dipper's emotions were hard to read, but he seemed kind of hurt by the realization that the kiss they shared wasn't necessarily one of true affection, simply one of alcohol-induced stupidity.
"Oh.." She sighed out quietly and slowly perked up again. "You never answered my question." Her twin's brown eyes dragged up to her's in a fog of forgetful confusion. "I asked you if you like him."
Dipper was silent. His eyes lowered down back to the styrofoam cup and he looked distant. "..yeah." He muttered. Mabel didn't here him.
"What?" She sat up again and watched her slouching brother, who was half sunk into the wooden chair.
"Yeah. I like him. I like him a lot."
