Roommate Problems
Transitioning from best friends to being roommates can be a struggle.
"Um, Zeke?" Ember asked getting her friend's attention. The young adult looked up from the book he was reading. Ember held up a some blueprints for an odd looking device. "What's this?"
Zeke scrambled to his feet, snatching the prints from his roommates hand.
"What do you think they are? They're blueprints!" Zeke exclaimed.
"I see that. What are they for?" Ember asked.
"Er... An ice cream maker?" Zeke lied. Ember raised an eyebrow before rolling her eyes.
"Whatever, I've got to get to work." Ember mumbled.
"Yeah have fun with that." Zeke teased.
"Oh I'll try." Ember sighed.
"I better head off too. I've got stuff I need to get done." Zeke admitted.
Ember grinned. "Have fun with that." She repeated his words back to him. He smiled lightly.
----Time skip in Blaze's apartment----
"Blaze!" Michael exclaimed. He poked his head into Blaze's bedroom door frame.
"What?" Blaze grumbled. He had slept in and was just waking up.
"Can you go grocery shopping some time today? I would but I've got work today." Michael asked.
"Yeah sure, Mike." Blaze told his friend groggily.
"Thanks!"
----Time skip in the grocery store----
"Cheese..." Blaze mumbled, looking for the right kind of cheese to buy.
"Blaze?" A familiar female voice said. Blaze turned around. He saw a short (at least nine inches shorter than himself) girl with wavy black hair and blue eyes. It was Lira.
"Lira! It's great to see you again." Blaze said.
"You too! We really need to keep in touch more. Last week was like the first time in what? Five years maybe?" Lira exclaimed. She was small, but she had a lot of enthusiasm.
"Well I'm sure that we'll see each other a lot more now that my sister is staying with you." Blaze smiled. Lira looked confused.
"Ember's not staying with me. My apartment is full for the next two weeks. She told me she found a place." Lira wondered.
"I thought she was staying with you. Where has she been living the last week then?" Blaze wondered.
Lira shrugged and decided to change the subject. "How's law school? Still trying to make the world a better place through the courtroom?"
"Er... I passed my bar last year. I've been a lawyer for the past couple of months." Blaze told her.
Lira crossed her arms. "And you didn't even tell me? I could've helped you celebrate."
"I'm sorry. I called you to tell you, but some guy picked up."
Lira sighed. "That probably would have been Lysander, my ex."
"Oh..." Blaze felt very uncomfortable. He changed the topic. "What about you? How's medical school treating you?"
Lira smiled. "I'm an intern at Olivex Heart Hospital. It's pretty busy. I haven't really had time for much of a life since I started."
"That's great! You're on your way to becoming a real doctor." Blaze said.
"Yep!" They were quiet for a moment. "Well, I've got to go, but we really need to keep in touch. Here's my new cellphone number. Call anytime." Lira told him, handing over a small card.
"Thanks, Lira. It was great to see you." Blaze told her. She smiled.
"Yeah, you too." They lingered awkwardly for a few moments. They weren't sure what was best to do in this situation. Had it been too long to hug? Was a handshake too formal? Was a peck on the cheek too forward? Lira made the move of giving her old friend a hug. "See you around." She said waving at him.
Blaze smiled as she walked away. It had been good to see her. He felt as if a balloon of joy had swelled up inside his stomach. Blaze turned back to his shopping, not able to remember what he was supposed to be getting.
-Time Skip to Marty's Smoothie Shack-
This just in: Electron Stryke has kidnapped Daniel Grover, a scientist working on Project S for the S.H.U. Grover is one of the few people who actually knows what this project actually entails and if that knowledge falls into the wrong hands who knows what will happen to Olivex City.
The television station announced to the eatery where Ember was currently working. She put on a brave face knowing what to do.
"Hey, Olivia, do you think I can take my lunch break a couple minutes early?" Ember asked her superior.
"Sure, go ahead." Olivia sighed and decided not to argue. Ember was a good employee and usually if she had to ask a favor she would repay her boss.
"Thanks!" Ember said dashing off.
She quickly changed her clothes, out of sight, and identity using nifty little tool most super heroes owned. It was called a U.N.I and it could change your clothes within seconds. She had programmed it so it could go between her regular clothes and her super hero uniform in seconds.
Her outfit now consisted of a red mask to cover her freckles and the rest of her face, gold colored shoulder armor, a matching chest plate, a red skirt for movability, a golden utility belt, and gold boots. The fabric was made of a strong almost metal-like material that easily protected her from injury. The boots gave her the ability to fly, which was very necessary to superheroes not born or originally given that power. Her golden hair was left down, slightly more curly than usual and missing the red hair band she normally wore. Red, orange, and gold highlights wove in and out of her hair, making it harder to find out her secret identity.
Captain Embers took off towards the direction she had seen Electron Stryke fly off to.
--Time Skip to abandoned warehouse--
As a villain it was important not to let superheroes discover your secret lair, which is why Electron Stryke never led any heroes to his real evil lair, instead he used random unused locations.
"Listen, Mr. Grover, I don't want to have to do something drastic." Electron Stryke told his captive as he leaned on a lever, just enough to cause unease in Grover. "But I need to know your planning on doing for Project S."
Grover was a half Vietnamese man with short, straight black hair and square glasses that matched his square jawline. He was skinny and short and quite intimated at the moment. Electron Stryke had enclosed him in a glass case that he had no idea on what it would do.
"I-I won't talk! I-I'll l-lose my job!" Daniel Grover stuttered.
"I don't think you understand the danger your in. The S.H.U isn't-"
CRASH!
Captain Embers burst through the window. The door had been locked.
"Oh come on? Can't you just use the door?" Electron Stryke complained.
"It was locked." Captain Embers shouted. She raised her hand about to throw a fireball and stop the interrogation.
CRASH! Another hero burst through a window.
"Are you kidding me?" Electron Stryke exclaimed.
The Pixel Wizard glared at the villain with a slight smirk.
PW stood wearing a green costume made from the same metal like fabric as Captain Embers. It had metallic looking turquoise cape and matching boots. He wore a matching green mask which covered most of his face. His costume wouldn't be complete without his cocky smirk and an item he conjured from a video game. His power was an odd one and it was one he gave himself, creating his own superpowered nanobots that could take the shape of what he wanted. And he had decided that it would be cool to stick with a video game theme. Captain Embers didn't know who PW really was but she bet that under his mask he was a huge gaming nerd.
"Hey, Wizard, I've got this taken care of!" Captain Embers shouted to the other hero.
"Stand aside. I've got this, Captain." The Pixel Wizard told the superheroine. She glared at him.
"Don't you need to defeat some other villain? I've been kicking Electron Stryke's @$$ for years now!" Captain Embers shouted, somewhat immaturely.
Electron Stryke shared a confused glance with his captive. He shrugged and decided to use this distraction to his advantage.
"Tell me." He whispered to Dr. Grover. "Now!" His tone was quite menacing.
"You've been fighting this guy for years now and he's still going free? Maybe it's time that you let the real hero handle this." The Pixel Wizard suggested. Captain Embers glared at PW even more. She thought about setting his @$$ on fire.
"Excuse me? How long was your villain, Granite, rooming free? Yeah that's what I thought." Captain Embers remarked.
A shadow loomed over PW's face. He glared. "Let's settle this." He said. He conjured an ice flower from the Mario series. Now he had ice power.
Ember threw one of her fireballs, with a curve to make it harder for Michael to block it. He threw an icy snowball directly for her fireball. The two met causing only a water to fall to the floor.
"Fine I'll talk!" Dr. Grover exclaimed. Electron Stryke smirked.
"Tell me about this Project S."
A huge ball of fire landed on PW. He screeched, loosing his cool for a split second, before using his temporary power to put the fire out. Captain Embers smirked, unable to help herself.
"Project S is a plan to use a new machine we call the Mind Bender-S to get all the supers to take out the villains." Dr. Grover said. He quivered in fear of Electron Stryke. "Permanently."
Electron Stryke fixed his yellow googles and let out a deep breath, trying to control his temper. Project S was not good for anyone and he knew it.
"How exactly are they going to do it?"
"Wait, Captain, we need to focus on the task at hand." PW told her.
Captain Embers smirked. "You're only saying that because you know I'm going to kick your butt! But you're right. Let's get him."
Dr. Grover opened his mouth to speak, but he was interrupted as a ball of fire zoomed past, nearly hitting Electron Stryke in the face. It missed.
"So I see, Captain, that you no longer are fighting with the Pixel Wizard like an immature little child. I suggest you get out of here. This is none of your business." Electron Stryke glared.
Fireball after fireball, Electron Stryke dodged each one that was thrown after him. He collected his own energy and let it burst in a massive wave of electricity, sending Captain Embers to momentarily get shocked and knocked off her feet at the force.
She ran to Electron Stryke hurling fireballs as fast as she could. She ran up and struck Electron Stryke in the chest with her foot. He momentarily lost his balance, not expecting her to attack in such a way.
"Oof!" He said.
Captain Embers took the moment of surprise to launch another surprise. Her fist brushed across his face.
Meanwhile PW was freeing Dr. Grover. It was all apart of their unspoken plan. Captain Embers would distract Electron Stryke while The Pixel Wizard freed the captive doctor.
"Come on, we're getting you out of here." PW told Grover. Grover nodded as PW removed his restraints.
He took Grover than the two left the building.
Electron Stryke googles were cracked slightly and he had a bruise growing on his cheek.
Captain Embers wasn't scratched free either. Electron Stryke's odd electricity left a strange looking burn on her shoulder. It looked like lightning that branches out in a thunderstorm. It hurt and she had a bruise on her stomach too from Electron Stryke getting his own kick in.
Red and blue lights flashed through the windows.
Captain Embers let out one more knock out punch, knowing it was time to go. The police were here. Electron Stryke was knocked over, seeming weak after that long battle.
Captain Embers dragged him outside to the police, not thinking it was suspicious how easily defeated he was. She'd been fighting him for years and still didn't question his easy defeat.
Electron Stryke frowned at the sight of all the officers. He wasn't going to jail.
"You thought it be that easy?" Electron Stryke hissed.
He jerked away from the superhero who had had a hold on him. He flew up into the air.
"You're living in a world of lies! Just wait. I'll show you the truth." Electron Stryke told the small group.
The two officers raised their guns, but didn't shoot. Captain Embers didn't do anything either, though she could have. Today was not the day Electron Stryke would be behind bars, but he would be some day.
"Nice work with the distraction, Captain, but why did you let him go?" PW wondered as he landed on the ground next to Captain Embers, his arms folded.
"I want to see him behind bars, but I heard what Grover said. The S.H.U has some secrets hidden and I don't want to be brainwashed. Right now, Electron Stryke only wants to uncover those secrets. Where's Grover?" Captain Embers asked.
"He's safe." The Pixel Wizard told the other hero. "Sorry I went after your villain. You can handle him. I'll leave kicking his ass to you."
"Thanks," Captain Embers told him. He gave her a curt, polite nod with a slight smile on his face. She nodded back.
-------Time Skip to Apartment 21-------
Ember walked into her new apartment and flopped down on the couch. Her best friend was already sitting there, sporting a huge black eye. She sighed.
"Rough day?" He asked. She nodded.
"A bit. What the hell happened to you?" Ember wondered.
"Oh... I went to the gym today and got whacked in the face when a punching bag came back at me." Zeke told her.
Ember rolled her eyes. "You went to the gym?"
"Shut up." Zeke grumbled.
Ember laughed. "Is this the same Zeke who called high school P.E a sin against humanity and said he had never been in so much pain when he ran the mile? The same Zeke who is a skinny twig with nearly no muscle?"
"Okay, okay I get it." Zeke laughed. "But I did go to the gym today. I'll have you know it was someone's else's punching bag."
"Okay, I can believe that." Ember told him. "Come on." She got up and extended her hand.
"Why?"
"To get you some ice. Your eye looks nasty." Ember told him honestly.
"Gee, thanks." He mumbled sarcastically. Zeke watched Ember walk into their small kitchen to the freezer and noticed an odd mark on her shoulder. He immediately got up to look at it.
"Here- What are you doing?" Ember wondered as he stared at her shoulder, which at revealed by the boat neck sweater she was wearing.
"What's that?" Zeke asked.
"Don't worry about me. Here's your ice pack." Ember handed over a cold pack.
"Ember, don't lie to me. What the hell happened?" Zeke wondered.
"I-I got coffee spilled on me at work. It was way too hot and I got a nasty burn." Ember looked away from Zeke's gaze.
"Ember, how many times has that happened in the past month? Ember, you've got to be more careful. You're going to get yourself hurt or fired."
Ember felt anger swell up inside her. "You know what? I can handle myself. I do it everyday. I'm not that fifteen year old girl anymore. I'm not that clumsy."
Zeke didn't know exactly what to say as his new roommate stormed out of their tiny kitchen into her room. So he just took her advice, pressed the eye pack up to his eye, and sighed.
Ember sure could lose her cool easily, couldn't she?
Finally, right? I finally uploaded this story. Yeah it won't be often, but I'm continuing it. These chapters are super long. This one is 2624 words not counting the bold. It's better than the first chapter I think. More action, more everything!
Any way I hope you enjoyed and I am continuing. Thanks!
