Chapter 2

————
Light trickles down through the thin gap between the blinds. The thick blinds kept the darkness in and the light out as though it was still night.

Blurry, barely visible furniture scattered around the room. Soon enough, a black figure stirs from the covers of their bed.

Suddenly, the switch near the door flicks on and the room is illuminated by dull yellow lighting. A groan can be heard from the figure.

"John. Wake up, I made breakfast.", said Caliborn.

John laid on his stomach, holding his pillow as he turned his head to squint at him.

"Fxck, I don't want to get up.", grumbled John before his dropped his onto his pillow.

Caliborn rolled his eyes as he stood at the entrance of John's room. Caliborn wore a formal button up, a bow, and grey dress pants.

"I made something different today, lazy.", said Caliborn.

John said nothing as he had long gone back to sleep. Getting angry, Caliborn marched up to John's bed. He grabbed the covers and pulled them off him.

"Get the Fxck up already!?", screamed Caliborn.

John flipped over to glare sleepily at Caliborn. John wore soft green pajamas with blue flower embroidery. Caliborn stared at his choice of clothing with an absurd look of judgement.

"Don't judge me shxt head, my sister gave me this for my birthday.", said John as he eventually sat up.

Caliborn casually sat down on the edge of John's bed. John looks down at Caliborn's neck to see his bow is uneven. Caliborn glances at John's bed head and huffs.

John fixes the bow and Caliborn says nothing about John not being able to see shxt, so how would he know it needs fixing?

"Okay, now get out.", said John as Caliborn walks out of the room.

Caliborn was in the middle of eating breakfast when John walked in, still looking messy as ever. He ignores Caliborn until he has a plate of food in front of him and has sat down to eat.

It was quiet for a moment, neither was antagonizing each other. Caliborn stood up and placed his plate in the sink.

John continued to eat when Caliborn left the kitchen. A few minutes later, Caliborn came back with a brush.

He began to gently brush John's hair. John's hair was soft and slowly got neater. However the cowlick in his hair would stick out of place. Caliborn partook in a great battle against it.

"You will lose, like you always do.", said John.

"Why don't you ever straighten your hair?", asked Caliborn.

"Because it takes too much effort.", said John as he finished his breakfast.

John had deep eye bags and hasn't done his daily routine yet. Caliborn says nothing more and gave up while getting his hair the stink eye.

John leaned over the table after he pushed his plate out of the way.

"I'd say your hair takes more effort with how much it curls in humidity.", John said passively.

"Eh, I'm European I can deal with it. Americans blow it out of proportion.", waved Caliborn.

Caliborn places the brush down. He steps back to let John get up and push the chair in. He notes John's clothes have become crooked.

"Eh, I wouldn't know I was homeschooled.", was John's odd comment.

John took the plate to the sink.

Caliborn gave him the side eyes as that didn't make sense given what he knows about him. He shrugged it off as John unnecessarily protecting himself again.

"Would it kill you to trust me?", accused Caliborn.

John stood at the sink and turned a round. He cocked his hand on his hip and raised his eyebrow. Quirking the corner of his lip, John pointedly stared at him.

Caliborn stared at him in full force. There would be a winner and that winner would be him.

They stared each other down for a minute across the kitchen. They didn't move or speak. Though they did blink as it wasn't a blinking contest but a staring contest.

The sudden ring of Caliborn's phone brought them back to reality and Caliborn broke eye contact to answer.

John let out a small smirk in victory. Caliborn turned from him with a hand raised to rudely gesture at him.

John chuckled and moved to the bathroom on his side of the apartment.
