Day 1
"No gays allowed. - Taehyung"
"What?"
The boy stood in front of the door confused.
Is this a joke of some kind?
He checked his room number to make sure it was 452 for the 3rd time, but he certainly was where he was supposed to be.
He knocked on the door a couple of times and waited for an answer.
Nothing.
Jungkook knocked again a bit harder this time and placed his ear closer to the door.
But even when he waited for 5 minutes, there was no answer.
Putting the luggage aside, Jungkook tried opening the door to see if it was locked.
Jungkook hoped that it would open because he wasn't equipped with any key since he was informed that his roommate had it.
Click.
Pushing the door open, Jungkook sighed in relief and peeked his head inside.
There seemed to be no one in the room.
He can see two single beds, one on the right and one on the left of their tiny room.
The right side of the room was obsessively dark with everything black from the bed to the desk lamp, and even the posters on the wall.
And a sleek leather jacket hung from a chair.
Jungkook had already guessed his roommate wasn't the typical varsity athlete jock, but rather the loner or even the type that's gone most of the time doing god knows what.
Was he relieved? He still was unsure.
Jungkook pulled in his luggage and entered his new living space.
"I guess this side of the room is mine." Jungkook said to himself looking at the left side of the room.
It was a small room with little space between the beds, but at least he was closer to the window. Not that there was much to see besides trees.
He started unpacking. The rest of his things were to be delivered tomorrow, so he had only brought the essentials in his suitcase.
Maybe I need to buy an extra storage case. Looking at the closet we have it might not be enough for me to put all my clothes-
"What the fuck are you doing in my room?"
Jungkook quickly turned his head towards the voice.
A tall brown-haired boy stood in front of the door with his arm crossed, looking alarmed.
He was wearing a leather jacket similar to the one Jungkook had seen earlier.
He then knew.
He must be my roommate.
He stood up from the ground and patted his hands on his jeans. "Hi, are you Taehyung? I'm Jeon Jungkook. Your new roommate? The door was open so....."
"This is my room." The other boy replied in an agitated tone.
"Uh-But, I'm your new roommate? Here, it says my room is 452." Jungkook stood up handing the information sheet to him.
The other smacked the paper from Jungkook's hands.
"Fuck Namjoon." he cursed.
Namjoon?- did I do something wrong?
Now Jungkook was terrified. This was definitely not something he was expecting from his roommate.
A few seconds later the brown-haired boy replied.
"Get out."
"W-what? Why?"
"I said get out. Now."
He raised his voice pointing out the door.
Jungkook jumped and clenched his hands. He could only be confused by the situation.
"Can you explain why?" Jungkook's voice trembled. He couldn't look at the other's eyes as he knew he was being glared at.
"Just get a new room. It's best for both of us." He ordered moving away from the door and moving inside the room.
Jungkook had absolutely no idea what was happening, but he gathered his things back into the suitcase and walked out of room 452 before anything else.
He really regretted not applying for a single room.
•••••••••••••••••••••
He didn't know where to go.
Jungkook sat on a bench in the dorm lobby on the first floor.
Other students like him were smiling with their friends, or probably their roommates.
He slumped onto the beach with his half-opened suitcase beside him.
"Now what do I do." He mumbled.
"Hey! Is this yours?" A voice called on him from afar.
Jungkook squinted his eyes and saw an orange-haired boy walking towards him with something in his hands.
"Me?" Jungkook pointed to himself.
"Yea you! Is this yours?" The boy said holding up a red sock in his hand.
Jungkook blushed. It was his sock.
"Y-yea, that's mine."
Of course I have to embarrass myself every fucking day.
"You dropped it in the corridor while you were running. Are you okay?" The boy asked sitting down next to him as he handed the sock.
"Th-thank you and yea I'm fine." Jungkook stuttered.
The boy cheerfully laughed his eyes squinting.
"I'm Jimin and it's my second year here. I live on same the floor as you. What are you majoring in?" He introduced himself.
"I'm Jungkook. I'm a freshman and I'm planning to study life science. What about you?" He replied. It was his first time talking to anyone on this campus, and he honestly felt relieved to know that not everyone was an asshole like Taehyung.
"I'm in social science, but I plan to change it soon. But life-sci? Damn, you must be really smart then."
Jungkook blushed, heating his face up. "N-not really."
"So, what happened?" Jimin asked.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, I just happened to see you rush out of a room looking upset with a suitcase half-open."
"Oh, uh-I kind of got kicked out by my roommate who I just met. Not really sure why though." Jungkook chuckled. Funny thing how he was feeling hopeless just a minute ago, but putting it into words just made the whole situation strangely amusing.
"Really? Why? By who?" Jimin asked him concerned.
"I think his name was Taehyung. Or at least that's what it said on the door. He just told me to get out and nothing else." The younger explained.
Jimin paused for a moment before he realized. "Oh shit, I'm so sorry Jungkook! I think it's my fault." Jimin apologized, his eyes widening in terror.
Jungkook tilted his head.
"Why is it your fault?"
"I was actually supposed to be your roommate, but since I didn't want to change with my current roommate, I asked my friend Namjoon to take my place. But I guess he didn't want to so he secretly changed the room number to Taehyung's." He explained looking guilty.
"Oh... That explains a lot! I was wondering why he said Namjoon." Jungkook laughed, forcing a smile. He obviously didn't understand the whole situation but didn't question it.
As I thought. No one wants me.
"Look, I'm so sorry. I'll try and talk to Taehyung and change his mind." The other boy pleaded, looking apologetic towards the younger.
Jungkook awkwardly laughed.
"It's not your fault! I'm sure if I talk to the office I can find a new room. It's fine." He reassured the older.
"Are you sure?"
Jungkook nodded.
•••••••••••••••••••••
"Hi. Is this the main office for dorms?"
Jungkook asked the lady sitting in front of a computer.
"Yes," she replied looking up. "Need something?"
"I need a room. My room was supposed to be 452 but there were issues. Are there any more rooms available?"
"We don't usually change student's rooms that easily. What you get assigned is usually what you get" she replied drily.
"But I really, really need a new room. There wasn't any space for me." Jungkook lied.
The lady sighed and looked through her computer. "Sorry, but all the other rooms are occupied except for 452."
Jungkook's expression darkened with disappointment.
"No way."
"Fully packed this year. Is there any way you can stay in room 452?" She asked.
"I mean- you know what, it's okay. I'll try and see if I can sort it out on my own. Thank you." Jungkook said not wanting to bother her anymore. He left the office and sat back down on the same bench.
He really was troubled.
Should he go back to Taehyung and ask again?
Or was he just going to be pushed away again?
It was worth a try and he didn't want to regret not asking later on.
I mean this is all I can do right now. There is absolutely nowhere else to go.
Jungkook groaned, taking his suitcase in his hands and went up to the 4th floor.
He sighed as he stood in front of the same door.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
A few seconds later, the door opened.
The second Taehyung saw Jungkook's face he shut the door.
But Jungkook was quick enough to hold it open as he knew this was going to happen.
"Please just listen to me." He begged, trying to come up with the best way to convince Taehyung. Jungkook actually didn't prepare what he was going to say, which he immediately regretted. He just hoped that whatever he said would work things out.
"I said I won't share my room."
Taehyung said again, this time more sternly.
"But this is the only open room. I asked the office but they can't do anything about it. And I heard from your friend Jimin about what happened so I'm sorry but it can't be helped. I mean it wasn't even my fault from the first place..." Jungkook tried to explain.
"I really don't fucking care if the rooms aren't available. Go back home." He demanded.
"Home to where? Please, just let me stay one night then."
"No."
"Please. I'll do anyth-"
Before Jungkook could finish Taehyung pushed him away and slammed the door in his face.
"Great."
Jungkook sat down crisscrossed placing his back on the door.
This is ridiculous. No, he is ridiculous.
It was already 6 pm and Jungkook was getting tired and hungry from carrying his luggage around. But he was so stubborn that he was determined to stay here until Taehyung let him in.
30 minutes had passed and Jungkook was starting to get sleepy. His phone battery was almost at 10% and he forgot where he placed his charger. Nothing to eat, nothing to do, no one to talk to.
Jungkook thought of talking to Jimin again but he saw him go out and probably wasn't going to come back anytime soon.
He grabbed his jacket from his suitcase and used it as a blanket.
Before he knew it, his eyes closed slowly, and went to sleep.
When Taehyung went out of the room for dinner he saw Jungkook sleeping on the ground like a dog.
"You've gotta be kidding me."
He really did not expect the other to be camping outside the room.
It was 7:30 pm and though he was planning to meet his friends at 7, his laziness made him get ready later on. The sleeping one was snoring softly with his mouth slightly apart and he was curled up into a ball while shivering. After all, it was still March.
"Hey, wake up." said Taehyung poking at the boy with his foot. Jungkook seemed to be in a deep slumber.
Without any choice, Taehyung took out his phone and dialed a number.
"Hey-Yoongi hyung? Sorry I don't think I can eat with you guys tonight-yeah, something came up. Ok-Bye."
He sighed staring at the boy.
"Fuck."
