24. Eve's Adam

Song: Secrets - One Republic

"She doesn't know me. Nobody knows me. It's cool. It's fine." Dan Humphrey Gossip Girl

"Helix," I call out scared. It's been a few minutes and he hadn't said anything as I was seated next to him on the floor while he had his head against the wall.

I quickly take out my phone and start dialing 911 when I feels cold hands wrap around mine."Don't, they're more important people," he says.

"Helix, you're not any less important," I say appalled he'd think that way. He opens his eyes and glances into mine. He then smiles, "Are you about to embark on one of your random too good to be true speeches?" He asks his eyes sparkling.

I push him away. "You must be okay seeing as you have the energy to be snidely,"

"It hurts," he says voice laced with pain with his hand over his chest making my face crinkle in worry before realization hits that he was not injured, how could he be in pain.

"Helix!" I exclaim playfully slapping him to which he chuckles and wraps his arm around my right hand.

"Just let me rest my head for a bit," he says to which I shake my head. He's incorrigible, but I couldn't say no as my lips break into a smile allowing him to place his head against my shoulder. I feel his body relax and stay quiet, after a while I move to ask. "Is it the syncope?" but stay quiet. Sighing I look down and notice a tattoo on his wrist. I place my hands on it and trace it. It was a drawing of two men, one was seated holding some sort of instrument. While the other was behind him with his hand to his back.

"Zheteus and Amphion," Helix says causing me to look down and realize he had his eyes trained on me making me flustered.

"Who are those?" I reply pushing my attention back to the tattoo which I assumed he was referring to.

"Your name is Hestia," he says.

"And?" I reply perplexed.

"You really have no idea?" He asks looking slightly surprised.

"Should I?" I ask even more confused. He sits straight, my heart slightly drops, saddened by the loss of his closeness brought by his  head leaving my shoulder.

"Not necessarily. I'd just have thought you might, considering you're named after a Greek goddess." he says pausing, "You are named after a Greek goddess, right?" He asks looking unsure. His unsure look was simply too adorably funny that I chuckle, "Yes helix, and are you named after a vacuum?" I ask jokingly.

"She's got jokes, but yes," he replies.

"Likewise," I say pausing as his full words register, "Wait are you kidding?" I say in slight disbelief.

"Well to be specific, the vacuum is named after me. It's one of the businesses we own," He says lackadaisically, to which I gape, "Just how rich are you?" I ask.

"Enough," He replies and winks to which I shake my head, yup incorrigible.

"So you said not necessarily?" I ask loving the banter between us.

"Ah yes," He says as if recalling something, "They're not quite popular, they're more infamous,"

"Why? Did they murder someone?" I ask jokingly.

"Yah themselves," he replies.

"Wait they killed each other?" I ask flabbergasted.

"No, they committed suicide," he replies shocking me.

"Why?" I ask.

"Who knows? All that's left is questions and assumption. No one can ever really know why, as the only one who can answer that is long gone," he says his eyes and tone getting deeper as his eyes linger on the tattoo. "Did you get it cos you're a twin?" I ask curious.

"Not really, I was asked to," he says surprising me.

"Wait, you got a tattoo because someone told you to?" I say finding it hard to belief.

"Why is that so hard to believe?" He asks.

"I stare back at him, and he chuckles. "You're right, I only did because of whom asked,"

"Who?"

"Henry," he says.

"Your twin?" I ask to which he nods.

"Wow, you must be really close," I say to which he doesn't answer instead asking, "Are you and Blair close?" his eyes paring into mine. His eyes looked like deep black diamonds swirling in the river of the night stars.

I nod smiling thinking about her.

"I tell her everything, she may be my younger sister, but she's my rock. I don't know what I'd do without her," I say to which he smiles.

"I grew up with a strict Christian mom, growing up my sister maybe because she was younger? Was more like my mom and very religious, she never drank, never swore never did anything bad,"

"Like you now?"

I chuckle and nod.

"But back then I was a rebel," I say smirking at the shock on his face.

"One day, I attended a party and drank heavily. I couldn't find my keys and gave my sister a call. However, once she answered I couldn't bring myself to ask for a ride, I was worried about her judgement and so I stayed silent,"

"Do you know what she did?"

He shakes his head.

"This little angel asked if I was okay and needed help. Her voice was laced with genuine worry, and it broke me. I broke into a mess of tears. I have no idea how she did it but she somehow got me to give her my location and came by to get me with a cab, as she couldn't drive,"

"She never once judged or berated me. Neither did she lecture me. She was simply there for me. I was so worried that my mom would give me an earful when we get home, that I'd be in big trouble. Blair calmed me down and promised she would take care of it. I don't know how, but she did and my mother never said a word to me about it. After that we became pretty close. She's my everything, I couldn't live without her,"

Helix suddenly laughs. "What's funny I ask?"

"The other day we almost drove to San Francisco cos she sneaked out for a party right?" He asks to which I nod.

"Meanwhile you've become virgin Mary, you both switched roles," he says chuckling to which I pause. I'd never realized that, till now. He was right.

"What about you?" I ask.

"Me?"

"Did you ever switch roles with Henry? I heard twins do that a lot," I ask curious.

He nods. "A lot, the only thing that differentiated us was the mole Henry had at his lower back. Without it, if he was standing before you, you'd think he was me and vice versa," he says to which I smile.

"Wow, that must have confused your friends and family,"

"Still does," he says a sad look on his face. Causing me to pause and reflect. While we saw the advantages, it seems the disadvantages did exist, I couldn't imagine how I'd feel if my family and friends never could fully recognize me. That'd suck at times, just as it'd rock at other times.

"Let's get a safe word," I say suddenly.

"A safe word?" He asks looking confused.

I nod," Something only both of us know, that way if I ever meet Henry I'd recognize you without having to look at your lower back," I say to which he chuckles.

"You're a funny lady Hestia," he says to which I realize he thought I was kidding. "I'm serious, look I don't know just how much you both look alike, but I do know we are friends and I want to be able to recognize my friend when I meet him. I may not be able to see your back, but I want to have your back by recognizing you for who you are," I say to which a wave of emotions crosses his eyes seemingly filling the vacuum that was left empty by all the times he'd not been recognized. Convincing me I'd made the right decision.

"I don't want to ever mix you up Helix," I say determined and think for a bit, "Vacuum? How about that?" I ask.

He gives me a weird look.

"Okay, not good, hmm," I say deep in thought.

"Eve," he calls out to me.

"Wait, how about Adam?" I ask enlightened.

"Adam? Cos I'm your Adam?" he says cheekily leaning in. I push him away playfully.

"No, more like the snake," I say to which he chuckles.

"I'm serious Helix," I say putting on a serious expression, he pauses and his eyes deepen. "Fine, when you can't find the snake call for Adam and he'll answer regardless of the circumstance," he says

"Promise?"

"Always," He replies to which I smile. My phone rings interrupting us. I pull it out and glance at the ID.
