After years of emotional abuse at the hands of her father which ended up evolving into more physical trauma, Armitage took Mara with him after he was promoted to a higher rank in the First Order. She never amounted to anything much, never being able to discover any of her talents in her childhood and had a host of anger issues. She died during an altercation with the Resistance after the part of the ship she was staying on was blown out.

IN ANOTHER WHERE HER MOTHER RAISED HER ALONE

After divorcing her husband and taking her young daughter away, Thrymia remarried to a wealthy merchant named Vurgo Fyslir. Mara never accepted him as a parental figure and would live independently of the couple by age sixteen. She ended up in the Gauvian Death Gang, though still kept consistent communication with her mother until it was abruptly cut off. No one knows where she is at this time.

IN ANOTHER WHERE CALLISTO LET HER STAY

Mariana Hoss and Callisto Laneller became engaged after roughly two years of dating. Despite both's efforts to maintain a healthy relationship, they broke it off and went separate ways once they realized they were just too different. Mara would turn to alcoholism shortly afterwards, but sobered up within a few months after she wound up in jail for stealing an X-wing and starting selling on the black market. She'd serve out a lengthy sentence on a mining colony.

Mara dies after her TIE Advanced crashes into Ratakka's surface. Poe Dameron, who survives his fall, discovers the wreck several days later and is able to use the fighter's barely working radio to call the Resistance for help.

Mara dies after surviving Ratakka when her damaged shuttle crashes into Jakku's surface. A scavenger, Rey, stumbles upon the wreck and find two batons made of a strange metal. The weapons are some of the few items she keeps and does not exchange for food.

IN A UNIVERSE WHERE SHE ACCOMPANIES DAMERON TO THE RESISTANCE FROM RATAKKA

After giving the Resistance all the information she had on the First Order, Mara ends up on General Organa's bad side. She leaves and falls into alcoholism while taking on odd jobs in the Hosnian system for the next few years. When reuniting with Dameron on Jakku, she encounters the First Order and is killed by Kylo Ren.

IN ANOTHER WITH A HAPPY ENDING

In one universe, Ben Solo never becomes Kylo Ren. The First Order never becomes a legitimate threat. Thrymia leaves her emotionally abusive husband before Marana is ever born. Mara grows up under her mother and Aunt Lyris. She enlists in the New Republic navy and does well despite her innate tendency towards rebellion. She becomes close friends with a fellow captain Poe Dameron, a Jedi in training nicknamed Rey, and meets a new intelligence recruit Dameron calls 'Finn'.

There is no war.
