xii. headcanons

-Mara doesn't pay to much to her looks (because she's knows she's already hot), but man when it comes to hair? She loves doing her hair. She can't stand when other people have this mess on their heads, she HAS to fix it.

- She does Rey's hair for fun. She first laughed at those three buns because Rey had them not symmetrical whatsoever, but then she re-did it completely perfect.

-Mara likes too brag that she's a great pilot, which she truly is, but she's an even better strategist. She just doesn't like being cooped up, so she prefers flying.

-She hates it when people call her batons 'sticks' not just because it's a pet peeve, but because the weapons represent the part of her family heritage she's actually proud of, her maternal side.

-During First Order meetings where they discussed plans, she'd put whiskey in her coffee cup. She couldn't deal with stuck-up military leaders without being at least a little buzzed.

-However, when Mara starts making aerial attack maneuvers, she doesn't drink. She's too serious about that shit to be tipsy.

-Now that she knows Finn was a stormtrooper, she'll want to protect him as homage to her dead pilots. She couldn't save them, so she'll care for him.

-When Mara was a teenager, she'd actually visit her mother, even after she fled her parent's divorce. They only lost contact after Thrymia got remarried and left without telling her daughter where she was going.

-Mara flirted with Rey so many times when she first showed up on Jakku. She did finally realize she valued her more as a friend, but Rey was so clueless.

("What's flirty?")

("Oh you innocent, sweet summer's child.")

("Mara, we live on a desert planet. It's always summer, and I'm not a child.")

- Mara has a type of accent she picked up from spending years around smugglers. It's not an overbearing one, but if you listen, it's there.

- She once dated a guy at the flight academy who was some prince of a nomadic people that refused to align with the New Republic when it emerged. Of course she learned that little factoid after she dumped him.

- Unbeknownst to her, Marana Hux had a reputation among stormtroopers. There was a rumor going around that the flight commander actually hung out with her pilots and the guys under her command. There was another story about how she stuck up for one of the troopers against one of the general's orders. It's how Finn first heard about her.

- Poe got some questions after surviving Ratakka that all sounded like 'Hey Commander Dameron, how did you even survive a harsh desert planet filled with carnivorous predators for five days with just your droid?' He gave some varying answers that didn't put Mara in the story, but Snap Wexley once joked that maybe he had some guardian angel watching over him the whole time. Poe went along with it, failing to mention that the angel in question was actually a very angry, very dramatic enemy defector with big blue eyes and two fighting sticks.

- Mara always seems to be moving. Whether it's twirling her batons or tapping her foot, she always is. Her aunt would always laugh about it and say 'There's too much fight in her. It just keeps seeping out.'

- Rey learned her friend's 1 2 3 calming down method pretty easily. When her and Mara are separated, she'll sometimes just whisper it to herself for comfort.

- Listen, is Mara a flirt? Yes, but that's all she is. As soon as it seems the relationship may be progressing somewhere, serious or not, she becomes such an awkward dork. Mara made provocative comments all day long to Callisto, but it was Cali who finally kissed this panicking bisexual mess and suggested dating because Mar simply wouldn't make an actual move.

- Her primary way of showing affection is physical touch. It doesn't matter if it's with friends or lovers, Mara is just a touchy person. She loves hugging, patting on the back, linking arms, or just being near people she likes. As a child, she received very little physical contact outside of her mother (and even that was rare). It wasn't until she was a teenager when she met her Aunt Lyris, who was an avid hugger, and had her first boyfriend, that she realized how much she valued being in contact with people. It's her main love language. Yet if you're a stranger or enemy and you put a hand on her? Prepare to catch a fist.

- Finn and Mara have an ongoing gag of who the better shot is. At this point it's obvious that Finn has better aim, but she just can't bring herself to admit it. The man was a stormtrooper! A stormtrooper!

- Her and Armitage are more alike than they would ever admit. Phasma once commented on how they both easily let people get under their skin and it made Mara dislike the woman even more.

- During her time on Jakku shortly after the crash, Mara would look up at the stars at night and wonder if Poe and BB-8 were anywhere in the sky she saw. Then she'd think about her brother and audibly say a curse to the stars.
