I spent the rest of the night in the hospital with Luke. Mason left about 5 to go be with Ellie. I didn't mind. We watched tv and had bad hospital food. I got an Uber home about midnight. My next class started at noon but I wanted to have breakfast with Luke in the morning so I made a point to be there by 9.

When I got to the hospital he was already awake, which was surprising.
"Good morning." He looked at me and smile.
"Hi, good morning." He was surprise to see me. "You know you don't have to come take care of me, the hospital does have nurses." I laughed.
"Yes, I do know." I pulled the chair next to his bedside. "I also know hospitals don't have good coffee." I pulled out a thermos. "Also, the nurses can't bug you like I can." His face was soft. He looked in worst shape today then he did yesterday.
"The coffee is really bad here." I smiled. I wanted to bump him playfully but I didn't want it to hurt. "Isn't it Wednesday?" I nodded. "Are you skipping school to be with me?" I laughed.
"No. My first class is at noon. I'll have to leave at 20 to 11." He gave a firm nod.

I did just as I said, I left at 20 to 11 to make sure I was in class on time, and just barley. I sat in my seat at 11:55. Leaving any later and I would have missed the class. Professor Reinaldo doesn't let anyone in who is late, no matter how good of a student. At 12 sharp, he locks the door.

Classes seemed to be moving at a snails pace. It's crazy how time seems to differ due to our emotions. I was begging time to speed up so I could get back to the hospital. Time decided it would be better to move slower so I could swim in the anxiety of having to wait.

I'd spent all the time I could at the hospital with Luke. I felt guilty, this was only a small way I could make it up. Maybe if we'd still hung out he wouldn't be in the position.
"You've got that remorseful look on your face again." I tired to force a smile.
"I'm sorry about snapping at you." I sighed. "Maybe if I hadn't you wouldn't be in the hospital." I felt raw and exposed.
"Yes I would Miley, but you probably would be too. It was something I would have forced you to do with me." I smiled a little.
"Maybe we would have been fashionably late." He smiled. His face looked less broke  and hurt when he smiled. I hated all the 'what if's this accident brought. "What were you doing out so late?" He looked away.
"I was," he spoke slowly. "at a drive in movie." My heart broke.
"We can do that. I promise, I'll even drive." He smiled lightly.
"Okay."

I stayed in the hospital with Luke most of the night, I was even allowed to climb onto the bed with him. Bridget, his main nurse was really nice. She let me spend time here after visiting hours. Sometimes, she'd even sneak me in a pudding. At one point I fell asleep next to Luke.
"How are you feeling?" A soft female voice asked.
"Better. Probably a 6 or 7." A whisper came from next to me. It was Luke, my head rested on his shoulder.
"You will be able to go home soon, I promise." There was silence. "She's a very sweet girl."
"Yeah."
"I hope you keep her close." Bridget whispered. I was still so tired that I didn't bother letting them know I was awake.
"I plan on it." Luke put his hand on my knee, I cuddled in closer.

Awhile later, I woke again. Luke was asleep now. I didn't wake him or even leave, I just stayed where I was. Another nurse came in the room. I'm assuming Bridget went home.
"Honey, visiting hours are over." She whispered trying not to wake Luke. I nodded and slowly got up. He never even stirred. This reminded me of when him and Mason fell asleep in my dorm. He was less bruised then, same sleeping face. When he was asleep he almost looked fake.

I was glad I napped at the hospital because it was nearly midnight and morning would come fast. It was weird how quickly your life can change for people. It was literally over night that I became friends with Luke and Mason. It was over night I almost regretted telling them they weren't my friends too. Now I was spending my free time in hospital room. I wouldn't trade a moment of it though. Even the falling sleep or having to eat bad hospital food. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

When I got back to the dorm and got into bed I checked my phone one last time. I had a text from Luke.

Luke: Where did you go?

Luke: NVM nurse just told me you left.

Me: I was sleeping. She told me I had to leave.

Luke: Yeah. Bridget is cooler.

Me: Lol. How you feeling?

Luke: Better. Sad you're gone though.

Me: Not gonna lie, that bed's kinda nice.

Luke: That's what I was thinking!

Me: Lol! I have class in the morning. I'll see you after. Okay?

Luke: You don't have to keep coming, but okay.

Me: Shut up, I'm being nice. Goodnight.

Luke: Goodnight Miles. Thanks for coming to visit me.

Me: Thanks for being so nice to me after I was a jerk.

Luke: Anything for you.
