Chapter 3 ( Pond Problems)

I'm such a sucker for romance, I find it fascinating.

Today, I woke up before Mother. I got ready for the day and ate breakfast before she woke up. I often got up early like this to be the first one at the pond. People usually go ice-skating, so I wanted to be there before it got too over crowded to even find a spot. Before I headed out, I made sure to grab an extra coat with a hoodie and threw it on. I was sure to leave a note on the kitchen counter so Mother wouldn't worry about where I had gone.

The pond was somewhere towards the edge of London so it was a good walk away from home but it was worth it. Lucky for me, it was one of those days where the sun came up. It was slightly warmer than usual which made the cold more bearable.

The walk was going smoothly until I passed by some people who stared at me as if they were disgusted. Over the years I had gotten use to it. I knew I was different and I never let the negativity of other people get to me. Like Mother always said, people are only scared of things that are different than what their use to because they don't understand them and she was right. No one understands me and it's mainly because they never took the time to actually talk to me. Instead they weed out what they see on the outside, which is I guess is my socially awkward behavior.

I tried my best to avoid people's gazes and hurried to the pond before my paranoia took over. When I turned a corner, my body hit something hard like a brick wall and it made me stumble back. I heard a grunt and when I managed to focus my gaze, I looked up to see two pairs of yellow green eyes staring at me. I had ran into some guy from behind and he turned to me. His hair looked like it was dyed two colors, the top being orange but the roots were black. He also wore a pair of black glasses.

Anxiety flushed through me and I didn't know what to do or say. I didn't have the courage to even apologize before the stranger spoke up.

???: You ran into me pretty hard. Are you ok?

I didn't respond and instead continued to my destination as I ran away from him. I didn't look back.

I was on my way to collect a soul today. After what happened with Sarah, I felt much better, like a huge weight had been lifted off of my chest. It made the day go by faster as I headed towards the pond. Apparently someone is scheduled to die there from falling into the pond because the ice cracked. I need to get there fast before people began to gather. If I reaped a soul in front of so many people, It would be extremely hard to explain my actions without causing a panic.

Just as I had turned a corner, something crashed into me from behind. I stumbled slightly before turning around to see what it was. When I glanced, I noticed it was a little girl. I couldn't see her face because she had a hood on and she was looking at the ground. I had a feeling I saw her somewhere but I couldn't imagine where. I don't know why but she reminded me of the girl that was on the swing at the park last night. That couldn't possibly be her or could it? It was dark so I didn't get a good look at her face. It could have been a little girl or a woman for all I knew so who could be sure? But what parent would let their kid out so late at night?

I looked the little girl up and down before I spoke up to see if she was ok.

Ronald: You ran into me pretty hard, are you ok?

She didn't answer me and ran off as she turned the corner ahead of me. Hmmmm...........

I was panting hard as I bent over my knees. I was disappointed in myself. I got shy again....I must have looked stupid for running away like that. He only asked if I was ok and I panicked....sigh. At least I made it to the pond, I thought to myself. I looked around and as expected, I was the only one there. I got a chance to look at the wildlife for a few minutes before other people showed up. I picked a spot under a leafless, snow covered tree. No one noticed me under the tree as they headed towards the pond to ice-skate with their families or someone they brought along with them.

Time had passed by rather casually and I was at the pond for an hour. In the middle of my daydreaming, I sat up when I heard a croak. I looked down to where the sound came from and peered at the end of my feet before moving it slightly to see a frog.

(Y/N): Shouldn't you be hibernating?

The frog didn't answer obviously. It was rare to see something like a frog out in the winter time. Mainly because it doesn't take much for them to freeze. I reached a hand out towards the frog very slowly and it allowed me to come close to it without hopping away. When I was in range of the frog, I gently scooped him up and stroked the top of his head. He sat there with no worries about me hurting him, like he knew I was no threat.

I played with the frog before he hopped away suddenly. He seemed startled, like there was approaching danger. I looked around and noticed why the frog was scared. Three girls were approaching me. I knew them. They were some of my old school mates who used to bully me. So much for an uneventful day...

(Former Classmate) Jessica: Look who it is girls. ( She says with bad intentions)
