Act 3, Scene 5
Narrator (Ava):
And the fateful dawn struck,
The parting of Romeo and Juliet was due;
And the night had been spent well — oh, fuck!
The day was already starting anew.
[Romeo climbs down the cloth ladder]
Juliet (Jisung): Don’t go; it’s just the dawn.
Romeo (Hyunjin): (climbs back up) Aight, if you say so.
Juliet (Jisung): (panics) No, wait, I was kidding. Go! Save yourself!
Romeo (Hyunjin): Make up your mind, woman!
[Enter The Nurse]
The Nurse (Chan): You’re still here? Hurry, Mommy Capulet is on her way!
[Exit Romeo, falling off the ladder and landing into the dirt face-first, and scurrying away]
[Enter Lady Capulet]
Mommy Capulet: Juliet, I have news for you.
Juliet (Jisung): (gasps) You’re getting me a new hairband!
Mommy Capulet: How did I raise such a dumb kid?
[The Nurse snickers]
Mommy Capulet: Anyways, you’re getting married to Paris.
Juliet (Jisung): Paris? What kinda name is that? Might as well marry London at this point!
Mommy Capulet: Good point. But what’s in the name?
Juliet (Jisung): Would you have been content with your life, had you named me Giuseppe?
The Nurse (Chan): Watch it, kiddo. He was my first lover.
Juliet (Jisung): A Giuseppe? Seriously?
Mommy Capulet: But the point is that you’re getting married to him on Thursday.
The Nurse (Chan): Can’t save you any longer, kiddo. You’re on your own now.
Juliet (Jisung):
Limtlessly betrayed, I feel,
As if the Heavens are thundering upon me;
But what about the knot I did seal
With Romeo Montague, to set myself free?
[Enter Lord Capulet]
Papa Capulet: …what did you say?
Juliet (Jisung): When did you come in?
Mommy Capulet: You married Romeo Montague!
Papa Capulet: Without our permission!
The Nurse (Chan): (whispers) Oh, no, this is bad.
Juliet (Jisung): (cries) I don’t want to marry London! I love Romeo!
Papa Capulet: You are grounded until Thursday — the day of your wedding!
Juliet (Jisung): No, wait…!
[Exit the Lord and Lady Capulet]
Juliet (Jisung): What do I do now?
The Nurse (Chan): I think… you should marry Paris.
Juliet (Jisung): But I’m already wedded! To Romeo!
The Nurse (Chan): He might as well be dead by now, knowing that he’s banished in Verona.
Juliet (Jisung): I’ve never felt so betrayed!
[Juliet climbs over the balcony and latches onto the cloth ladder]
The Nurse (Chan): Sweet Heavens; what are you doing now!
Juliet (Jisung): Going to Friar Lawrence’s! Don’t follow me!
[Exit Juliet]
