Winter

AN: Weird short piece I wrote.

Winter

She always wanted a big white wedding with the perfect man. The guest list would be exclusive, the family crying and the flowers in full bloom. She wanted purple, pink and silver as her theme, an amazing white dress to walk in and confetti in her hair at the end of it. Funny how life works out, in the end she hardly had it all.

She remembered bright lights, a screeching noise, the sound of skidding, and a loud crash. People would argue that it was her fault, the roads were icy, the weather was bad, she shouldn’t have gone out but she did. People waited when the flashing lights came, they waited as she was treated, and they waited to hear the news. It wasn’t good.

The wedding she wanted became a funeral, people came and they cried but eventually they moved on, her life forgotten and the memory of her barely there.

However, she was there, just on the other side. The place where the grass was just a bit greener, grime was everywhere, and people came in every variety; skeletal, head wounds, broken bones, old age etc.

That was where she met him, in the winter wonderland, a sick reminder of the way she passed but he appeared like a saviour in the night and she felt as complete as she’d ever be. He said he’d been poisoned, been wealthy but had enemies. He wasn’t bad he was just a strict businessman; he was young and like her hadn’t really lived.

With time moving so differently it could have been weeks, months, and years as they got to know each other. The past becomes the only think to hold on to, a life in an empty shell that keeps you going but together they created something new and safe.

She may not have got her perfect wedding but she could overlook the half dead people, the rotting flowers, the tatty ripped dress and the lack of tears. She didn’t have a future, didn’t have a wedding theme and there was no confetti. She had eternity and the perfect man, that was good enough for her.
