Part 4: Malibu Hospital

Natasha awoke to a massive headache and pain everywhere. With a groan, she blinked and immediately regretted the decision when bright lights hit her eyes. The movement and sound caught the attention of the three boys beside her, though, and within seconds they were surrounding her. Her headache grew worse and she brought a hand up to her head slowly, wondering why the movement hurt so much.

"Should we call a nurse?" Sam whispered to Bucky. He shrugged, watching Natasha closely.

"What happened?" Natasha moaned, uncovering her eyes and blinking up at the familiar faces.

Bucky leaned towards Sam and whispered, "Maybe we should."

Sam stepped back and tapped the call button without taking his eyes off Natasha.

"You fell from the Ferris wheel," Steve told her and Natasha began to remember. She raised a hand to the back of her head as Steve said, "You have a pretty major concussion and your head needed stitches. You're also covered in bruises from the fall."

"You looked like a rag doll," Sam commented solemnly. He waved his hand back and forth, imitating something falling and hitting multiple things on the way down. "Bang, bang, crash." His hand star-fished at the end to indicate her landing and Steve glared at him. Sam pulled his hands behind his back and looked down.

"No, that makes sense," Natasha said, looking at Sam. "I definitely feel like that's what happened." Before she could say anymore, the nurse walked in and smiled at her.

"How do you feel, Miss Romanov?" she asked.

Natasha motioned for Sam to imitate her fall again, but Steve stopped him before he could even make the first 'bang'.

"Awful," he told the nurse for them.

Natasha wanted to disagree, but if she was in an awful amount of pain, maybe she could get a more comfortable bed.

"Alright," the nurse said, nodding and checking the monitors that Natasha was hooked up to. "Mr. Tony Stark called. There is a helicopter waiting to take you to the airport up top. He promised to have you monitored back in New York, so you can leave now."

"Thank you."

Steve took the offered discharge papers and quickly signed them while the nurse unhooked Natasha from the machines. As soon as she was free, Natasha swung her legs over the bed and moved to stand up, but Steve grabbed her and held her back.

"What?" she asked. Steve finished the papers and handed the clipboard to the nurse.

"Concussion and bruises," he told her. Natasha frowned, but that didn't stop Steve from reaching down and lifting her up.

"Put me down, Rogers!" she protested, swatting at him.

Ignoring Natasha's protests, Steve thanked the nurse and led Bucky and Sam up to the roof where the helicopter was.

"Steven Grant Rogers," Natasha growled, squirming uncomfortably in his arms, "Put me down right now or so help me!"

As he stepped into the helicopter, Steve set her down on a chair and she fumed.

"Doctors orders!" Steve said, winking at her.

Natasha glared fiercely at him but he didn't seem fazed.

"At least we know the fall didn't ruin her lovely personality," Sam muttered to Bucky. When Natasha turned her glare to him, he ducked behind Bucky.

The flight to the airport was tense, but not nearly as impossible as it was convincing Natasha she could not walk through the airport in her state. After an incredibly loud argument that ended only when Natasha's head injury made it difficult to see straight, they convinced her to at least let Steve carrying her through if she refused the wheelchair. Although she conceded, she didn't say a single word for the entire flight back to New York.

By the time they arrived at the Tower, Bruce had all his medical examination supplies in the kitchen and was waiting for Natasha. Steve carried her in without complaints (she had nearly fallen asleep on the trip back) and Bruce checked her stitches. After he cleaned them then wrapped them again, she was sent off to bed. Steve carried her yet again down to her room and when he returned, Sam and Bucky had finished unloading their bags from the jet.

"That didn't go as planned," Tony said after sending his jet back off to its hangar.

"We'll have to try again later," Steve replied. Tony shrugged.

"Maybe take the whole team," he suggested. Steve pretended to be opposed to the idea and Tony rolled his eyes. "At the very least, don't spend so much money Pepper worries I've been hacked."

"I'll tell Natasha."

"Yeah," Tony grumbled, "You do that."
