epilogue
But for now let's get away on a Roman holiday.
***
It was around four in the morning when a distinct sound of someone knocking on her window awoke Lea. The small girl was annoyed and she was ready to fight whichever one of her friends was waking her up. She had been back from dropping out of college for three months and occasionally an old friend would show up, at the strangest hours, to welcome her back.
It hadn't been her smartest idea to drop out of Harvard Law but now she just had to wait until the next school year to enroll in a different school in a major that actually interested her.
Another round of knocking brought the girl out of her trance as she blindly reached for the chord that controlled the blinds from the comfort of her bed. She heard the familiar light sound of the blinds hitting each other and she reached to grab her thick glasses that Lea only ever wore before she went to bed.
A tuff of curly hair popped up and she was met with a pair of dark brown eyes that she had avoided since she had confronted him that night at his house.
Lea sighed, reaching forward and opening the window so that she could talk to the boy that she loved. Still loved.
"What are you doing?" she groaned, "It's three in the fucking morning. Couldn't whatever you had to say wait until- I don't know -ten?"
"Lea, baby, I'm so sorry," Calum quickly rushed out. He started crawling inside the window and Lea moved out of the way so that he could get in completely. He collapsed onto the floor and Lea couldn't help but snort at how clumsy he was.
The small girl moved so that she was sitting on her bed and Calum followed her, almost like a lost puppy so that he was sitting next to her.
"It's okay. You had every right to see someone else. We broke up. I went out with a few guys too while being away," the brunette admitted.
He pulled her on to his lap quickly and placed his lips on hers. She was a bit surprised but allowed Calum's tongue to enter her mouth and roam freely, claiming its territory again. He pulled away and let his mouth trail down her neck and suck small purple marks into the soft skin.
"Mine," he mumbled, making sure that Lea heard him.
"I'm so sorry that I hurt you," he then added, pulling away from her neck and making sure to make eye contact with her as he spoke.
Communication was so important and he had simply given up. She had technically done so too but he never tried to fight for it. They were only going to be an eight hour car ride away and he threw it all away because a bit of distance was a roadblock.
He squeezed the girl tightly to him, taking the fact that she hadn't pushed away as a good thing.
"I missed you too," Lea said softly, leaning forward and pressing her lips to Calum's, making sure they had a connection again.
It had been as if nothing had changed. The taste of his lips were the same, his hair felt just as thick in her fingers and it was felt like home. They didn't know where the future would take them but for now they were okay with the way things were going to be.
Lea loved Calum and Calum loved Lea.
