Backstory: Maria was born when her father was a young college student studying human genetics and how combining it with animal genetics could save lives . For about 4 years, she was raised by her aunt and uncle until her father graduated in his career . At 7 years old , she became sick and doctors weren't sure she had much time left , not wanting to lose his daughter . Julio combined his daughter's dna with that of the huntsman spider . After showing powers at the age of 12 , her father trained her to control them and soon she began protecting Mexico City . At 13 years old , she lost her right arm after fighting a villian and got her new arm made to shoot stronger webs and make meatballs for a snack
