Today I drove over to Monty's house. And by house I meant that he lives in a garage that connected to a small house inside, the garage opened out in the alley that his crew hangs around. When everyone saw me walking down the alley, everything seemed to fall silent. People stopped and stared, I stood by the couches, the fire only ambers.
"Where is he?" I asked Veronica, an eighteen year old who was classified as one of his 'hoes'. But everyone is treated equally whether you kiss the ass of the leader or not.
"He has been in bed all day, won't open the door for anyone." She answered sadly. I have her a greatfull nod and walked past the small crowd around the couches. The atmosphere in thisnplace was depressive and sad. I walked through the garage door which was already open, it was always open I wasn't sure if the garage door could even shut anymore.
I walked into his house, a small apartment on the bottom level. He lived in here with anyone else that would crash on the couch or on the carpet. I walked up the creaky stairs slowly, the carpet on the stairs was stained with alcohol from parties that I used to attend.
The house always had a stench of cigarettes, the wallpaper began to peel off the walls and when I reached the top of the stairs I was faced with a small hallway littered with bottles and cans. I followed the dark hallway stood in front of a door.
"Monty, it's me, Rogue." I say through the door. I didnt bother to knock, I was ready for rejection. Even if he did reject my requests to come in I would ignore them and sit at the door until he had to leave his bedroom at some point.
"What are you doing here? I didn't think you'd come." His dry, cracked voice spoke. "I said I would so please just let me in." I say, my face close to the wooden door hoping he would unlock it. A small silence fell over the area, it was eerie and I wondered what he was doing. Suddenly, I heard the door click open but it was strange as I hadn't heard him walk over and unlock it.
I put my hand on the door handle and twisted it, the door creaked open and the room was darker then the hallway. Sunlight struggling to seep through the blinds, I looked to my left and saw a light switch but I decided against turning the lights on. I saw Monty, hunched over on the side of the bed with his back facing me. He held a flask in his hand as I slowly made my way closer to him. His room wasn't too messy, a pair of jeans randomly placed on the floor that I stepped over, followed by two bear cans but Monty had always been a pretty clean person, he wasn't a lowlife slob but I knew he didn't feel that way about himself. This room may have been clean but the rest of the house was an utter nightmare but most of that was caused by others.
I sat on the bed beside him, he stared blankly at the white wall ahead of him.
"Want some?" He asked holding the flask out for me to take. Generally I'd say no, but this time I felt an urge for him to understand I am still the same girl I was a few months ago so I took a swig of the drink and handed it back. The familiar feeling of alcohol sliding down my throat made my urges for more stronger but I contained it.
"Who was that guy that you brought to the alley that night?" He asked. He didn't look at me but he kept a strong staring contest with the wall in front of him.
"Nobody don't worry about him." I shook my head slightly trying to make Monty understand Peter wasn't someone to stress about.
"He knows your name through, I know he does. It was obvious he felt awkward calling you Rogue. He must be pretty important to you," Monty pointed out. "What's his name?" He added.
"He's not important right now," I said quickly. "Rogue, I want you to stop. Just stop the lying, I've had enough of it. You know you can trust me, right?" Monty says expressing his frustration.
"Just tell me your name." He whispered turning to me and looking at me for the first time that I have been here. "I can't," I said softly. His face grew hard and mean.
"Why not?" He says gritting through his teeth. "Because, then you'll find out who I am, who I became." I replied with sad eyes.
"What are you afraid of?" He asks. "I am afraid that you'll see me differently." I answered in a small voice looking down at my feet.
"Rogue, you know I would never see you any differently then what I see you as now. You are just like the little sister I never had, I wanna look after you, just let me in." He pleaded.
I looked up from my feet and over to Monty who watched me with eyes that screamed 'please'. I sighed and shut my eyes, reopening them quickly. Every bone in my body screamed no, don't tell him. He'll find out that your dad is rich and will think of you only as some rich slob that feels sorry for him. But I had too, I had too tell him because I couldn't loose anyone else.
"My name is Bonnie." I say. Monty's eyes widened. "You actually told me." He breathed. A strong silence lingered in the air as Monty thought. I could never hear what Monty thought, ever since the day I meet him. I never knew why, I just assumed that maybe my powers just weren't strong enough to read certain people. "But I don't understand, I still don't know who you are." He said frowning at me with confusion.
I stood up suddenly and stared down at Monty as he stared up at me with a questioning look. "Come with me." I stated. He rushed to put on his shoes and follow me out the door. I heard him stomp down the stairs behind me and we were soon out in the alley.
People stared as they saw that I had gotten Monty out of his bed we ignored the small crowd staring at us. We got into my mustard yellow jeep and I started the ignition.
"Explain to me how a fifteen year old can legally drive a Jeep." Monty stated strapping his seat belt over his body. He has never been in my car before and he looks around analysing the area.
"You'll see." I teased as began to drive up the streets. He watched closely to where we drove, he noticed that we began to drive through the posh neighborhoods. We drove up large hills and areas I knew Monty didn't recognise.
"Are we lost?" He jokes. I stayed silent and soon the houses became fewer and few, until all that surrounds us is dirt mounds.
"Are you bring me here to kill me?" He questioned as I turned a quick corner the Avengers estate taking up nearly the whole right side of the street.
I stopped on the side of the road out the front of the large building. I parked so Monty's passenger side would be facing the building. He stared out the window and quickly whipped his head towards me.
"You are kidding right?" He scoffed. "You're an Avenger?" He asked almost as if he didn't believe the words coming from his own mouth.
"Pft, no Tony would never let me do that." I say casually. "Tony? As in Tony Stark?" Monty questioned with wide eyes.
"Yeah he's you know, kinda my dad." I say awkwardly. "Your name is Bonnie Stark?" He said dumbfounded.
"Uh yeah thats me." I stated a little uncomfortable with the situation. I turned the keys in the car and drove into the carpark surrounded with cars, expensive cars. I parked the car and quickly got out. Monty drew towards the expensive cars like a moth would to a light.
"Don't touch!" I yelled to Monty seconds before he was going to run his fingers over the green metal on the hood of the car.
"Come on I'll show you my 'living quarters'," I say with air quotations. "Tony calls them living quarters but I think it's to formal and sounds a little dumb you know?" I say and Monty just slowly nods following me up some stairs. He still seemed a little shocked and tried to process what was happening around him.
Once we reached the hallway after climbing the stairs, Monty complained about the whole way asking why we didn't jusy take the elevator.
I opened the door using my chain of keys and walked inside. "This is were I live I guess." I stated. I watched Monty's face, I was never unable to read him like I could read other people. He was a mystery to me. He looked around taking in the space.
"Its so; nice." He says looking around. His eyes took control over his body while he glanced at every detail the room possessed. His eyes trailed to my Australian paintings on the wall, they didn't match the theme of the room and were very out of place.
"You like Australia?" He questions looking over to me. "Sometimes." I answered. "I don't." He bluntly responded. A strong silence lingers in the air as Monty stared out the large windows over the city.
"I can't believe you've been living like this all this time and I never knew," He said. I stood beside him and stared off into the city. "Why'd you always come back? After all the years you've been living this life, why did you keep coming back to the alley?" He added. I stayed quiet for a few moments thinking over the response, should I tell him?
"Because Monty, you are a mystery to me and I want to figure it out." I say looking over to the older boy but he continued to stare out the window.
"I'd say the same about you," Monty says. "But you've figured me out," I responded.
"No I haven't." Monty shook his head in a small laugh and looked down at me. "Look at all this you have kept a secret, god knows what else you are keeping from me." He says running a hand through his long curly hair.
"I can read people easily, the way they feel and what they could be thinking. But I am never able to read you, never have. I can't read Finn I never know what that guys up to, and that boy you brought to the alley that night. I can't understand the people you surround yourself with, makes me think you've done something to them to block me out." Monty explains.
My head whipped up to him, did just tell me he had the same powers I possess? Or is he just using his choice of words in a strange way, I was panicking on the inside but didn't show it. Should I just show him? What if he is just like me? Or what if he isn't and he runs away screaming and never talks to me again, tells the world Tony Stark as a daughter was dangerous abilities.
"You suggesting something Monty?" I say keeping my poker face. I stared at him intensely.
"That night in the alley, when you touched my arm. I saw things, things that I knew only you and I saw. I saw things I've never told anyone about, I don't know how you could of ever shared these memories with me and the second I heard your name, I knew." He paused and looked down at me.
"I know who you are Bonnie Blake."
"I know who you are Monty Blake."
