Chapter One

    “Are you sure this is okay?” My best friend asked me while I pulled up to this blocked off area that looked like it would be interesting to hike. I nodded and turned off the car, then I looked at Kenny while he rubbed his hands together like he always does when he’s nervous.
    “I swear, it’ll be fine.” I smiled at him then pulled my keys out of the car’s ignition. I opened my door before I jumped out I grabbed my carry on bag then shut my door when I had jumped out. “Come on Kenny don’t be a scaredy cat!”
    “Oliver! The last time we went on ‘your’ adventures we got lost and spent the night sleeping in the fucking cold while we waited for it to get bright again.” Kenny pointed out, he shut his door and I locked the doors.
    “It won’t be like that time.” I told him, I walked to the blocked entrance and looked at the forest around us. The blocked off fence looked really old and looked like it hadn’t been open in decades, there was a large rusted chain around the large wooden fence. There was a sign that also said ‘Beware, and Stay Out!’ , I shrugged that couldn’t mean anything to bad. Probably just some wild animals or something around here.
I glanced over to Kenny who was wearing his hiking boots, a pair of black skinny jeans, a long sleeved dark green shirt, as well as a North Face jacket. He also had his carry on bag, he had his bright red long hair up in a pony and sunglasses over his green eyes.
“Why the sunglasses?” I asked him.
He looked at me then shrugged, “ It makes me feel safe.” He scratched the back of his head, “Well we had better get walking right?”
“Yep.” I smiled then vaulted myself over the fence easily from years of track and field.
“Show off.” Kenny complained as he scrambled over the fence with a little bit of trouble, but he was getting better at that type of things.
When I met Kenny he was a little bit over the weight he was suppose to be, which was perfectly fine considering his eating habits weren’t his fault in the first place. But since then he has come a long way since then.
I started to walk deeper into the woods with Kenny trailing behind me. I glanced back at him and frowned, “You alright?” I asked when he started to itch his hand, which was a sign of unease from him.
“No not really, the further we go the more I feel like there’s something dark in these woods watching us.” He told me and sped up his walk to get closer to me, he took my hand for comfort while we continued to walk.
It was about an hour later when we stopped to have something to eat and drink. I glanced around the place, the trees and everything looked like it was leaning in and drooping to catch you with their long leafless branches.
I jumped suddenly at a crow cawing.
“You okay?” Kenny questioned with a raised brow. I nodded slightly then got to my feet and stepped away from the tree I was sitting near.
“I feel like we should head back now.” I told him.
“Alright, sounds good.” he smiled, I’m pretty sure he was jumping with joy inside because of how much this forest creeped him out.
“I bet you’re happy about that.” I laughed a little then I took another sip from my water bottle. We started to walk again.
It was a while later when I heard something in the woods further from the trail that we were taking to get back to my car, I shrugged it off but I swear something was watching us. I was extremely happy when we got back to the car, I unlocked the car and Kenny and I both jumped into it. I put the keys in the ignition and turned it just as I saw some shadowy figure with glowing white eyes, I locked the doors.
I put the car in reverse, backed up, took a right and drove off probably exceeding any speed limit in that area. But that, seeing that scared the living shit right out of me.
“Did you see that?” I finally asked when we were on the freeway heading back to my house. Kenny looked at me and nodded.
“Yes, that thing... Do you think it’s following us?” He asked me, I shrugged.
“I have no clue, but I hope it doesn’t.” I said as I got into the right lane to get off on the exit to Tacoma.
“Me too, can I sleep over tonight? There is no way I’m going back to my apartment.” He chuckled a little and scratched the back of his neck. I nodded with the thought of, I didn’t want to be home alone either.
“Deal. so pizza tonight?” I asked him with a smile.
“Oh my God yes!” He jumped up and down excited, even though he was twenty-one he still act like he was a little kid. It was perfectly fine, I would be a hypocrite if I said I didn’t act like that either.
When we got back to my place we ran inside after I locked my doors, I turned on almost every light on in my house. I ordered pizza and then walked into my living room where Kenny was sitting on the couch in front of my flat screen trying to find something to watch on Hulu, it looked like it was going to be an Anime though. Which was perfectly fine with me, I loved watching Anime.
“So.” I said as I plopped myself right beside him, “ What have you found?”
Kenny scratched his nose then sighed, “Well I was thinking about watching Bleach or start over Soul Eater.”
“Think those are really good Animes for what we have seen tonight?” I asked as I slipped off my shoes then sat criss-cross-applesauce.
“But they’re good.” He pouted then licked his lips, “Alright, so when is the food coming?” He asked, “I am starving.”
“Shouldn’t you text your boyfriend that you’re home safe?” I asked him after I told him the food will be here in thirty minutes or so.
“You’re right, I should probably do that.” He said then pulled out his phone, and texted his boyfriend Castle.
I took the xbox controller and found an anime to watch. I was hoping it was good, it was a while later when I heard a knock on the door. I paused the anime and got up with a twenty. I opened the door and smiled at the pizza guy, “Thank you keep the change.” I said taking my two pizzas then shut the door quickly because I felt like something else watching me. “Pizza Kenny!” I called from the kitchen as I pulled out two paper plates so there would be no dishes later on.
“Yes! I’m so hungry.” Kenny ran into the kitchen and opened up his meat lovers pizza and took out two pieces. I wasn’t fond of that type so I just got cheese pizza for myself, I wasn’t that fond of meat anyway. “Yes thank you Oliver.” he smiled up at me then took a large bite out of the slice.
“No problem.” I chuckled and took a bite of my own, I walked to my fridge and opened it. “Want grape fanta or Dr.Pepper?”
“Which one has more caffeine?” He asked.
“Well, I believe grape fanta doesn’t have any so that would be Dr.Pepper.” I told him grabbing a Dr.Pepper for myself.
“Um, I think I’ll have a Dr.Pepper as well. Do you have ice?”
“Yeah I do.”
“Is it in the freezer?”
I nodded and handed him the bottle of Dr.Pepper. I always bought the glass ones because they tasted better to me.
“Awesome thanks.” Kenny smiled then got a glass cup down and grabbed the ice tray from the freezer.
The rest of the night was pretty normal besides for feeling like something was following me around the whole time.
