Memories
"Dad, please, I can explain, it's not what it looks like!"
"I should have known. I should have seen the signs."
"Dad..."
"We had a deal Hiccup!"
"I know, we did, argh everything is so messed up..."
"So everything in the ring... A trick? A Lie?!"
"I screwed up. I should have told you before now. Just, take this out on me. Be mad at me. But please... Just don't hurt Toothless!"
"The dragon?! That's who you're worried about?! Not the people you almost killed?!"
"H-he was just protecting me! He's not dangerous!"
"They've killed HUNDREDS of us!"
"And we've killed THOUSANDS of them! They're defending themselves, that's all! They raid us because they have to! If they don't bring enough food, then they'll be eaten themselves. There's something else on their island, Dad... It's a dragon like-"
"Their island! So you've been to the nest..."
"Did I say nest?"
"How did you find it?"
"What, no, I- I didn't! Toothless did, only a dragon can find the island."
...
"Oh no, Dad, oh please, it's not what you think, you don't know what you're up against, it's like nothing you've ever seen! Dad please, I promise you, you can't win this one! Dad, no! For ONCE in you life will you please just LISTEN to me?!"
"You've thrown your lot in with them. You're no Viking... You're not my son."
"It's a mess. You must feel horrible. You've lost everything. Your father, your tribe, your best friend..."
"Thank you for summing that up."
...
"Why couldn't I have killed that dragon when I first found him in the woods? Would have been better, for everyone..."
"The rest of us would have done it. So why didn't you?"
...
"Why didn't you?"
"I don't know... I couldn't."
"That's not an answer."
"Why is this so important to you all of a sudden?!'
"Because I want to remember what you say, right now."
"Oh for the love of... I was a coward! I was weak! I wouldn't kill a dragon!"
"You said WOULDN'T that time."
"Argh, whatever, I wouldn't! Three hundred years and I'm the first Viking who wouldn't kill a dragon!"
"...First to ride one, though. So...?"
"...I wouldn't kill him... Because he looked as frightened as I was. I looked at him... And I saw myself."
"Hiccup... What are you going to do now?"
"Eh, probably something stupid."
"Well you've already done that."
...
"Then probably something crazy."
"That's more like it!"
"Hiccup... I'm sorry. I can't do this."
...
"It's fine Astrid."
"I want to, I really do, but as soon as my parents find out..."
"I understand, really. You don't want to lose everything I like I have."
"But that's just it! I want to help-"
"Astrid. It's fine. Really. Whatever you do, just stay safe, okay?"
...
"I'm sorry."
"Me too."
He was the only Viking willing to stand with the dragons. So why did everyone he held close abandon him? His mother as a baby, his father had disowned him, his crush due to loyalty, his best friend captured... Why him? Hiccup Haddock the Third of Berk? The scrawny kid who couldn't do one thing right in his life. The misfit. The weirdo. The oddball. The strange one that few people looked up to for inspiration. That was why. At least, that's what he thinks. Because he was different, too different.
Hiccup, the original dragon rider, gone rogue.

I know this is a short and basic chapter I'll post the first real one later but I have to go do my HW because I was supposed to start it an hour and a half ago but did this instead XD
