Battle Alone

Hiccup dived off of the back of the Deadly Nadder onto the flaming boat with the large, black, draconic figure chained to the deck.

"Hey, hey, bud, it's good to see you too," he whispered to the dragon, who had nuzzled him happily before straining against his restraints again. Hiccup pulled at the thick leather as well, but had no luck.

"Okay, okay, think outside the box a little..." He knew he wasn't going to pull the chains of by himself, there was no way he was strong enough.

Hiccup pulled at his belt and brought out his knife, a different one then the one had thrown in the lake. "Please don't freak out bud," he pleaded. Toothless eyed the knife warily, but looked at Hiccup with enough trust in his gaze to tell him it was okay. The thick leather around Toothless's maw was quickly cut off, and from there the Night Fury was able to blast of the chains around his paws with a plasma blast.

The dragon gave a quick, happy roar before Hiccup mounted, and almost immediately the dragon-rider pair was in the air and zooming towards the gigantic Red Death. The Vikings below all looked to see the rider, not denying that the sight of a human speeding through the air on a dragon was an inspiring sight. One warrior filled with shock and fury at the sight, and turned his angered to the burning ship the rider and dragon had just left, seeing it sink into the water.

"HICCUP!" Stoick yelled, furious that his-

no. Not his son. Not any longer. The troublesome boy that caused all of this mess was persistent enough to come into this battle.

Toothless glanced back at Hiccup worriedly. "It's nothing Toothless. Let's focus on the bigger problem." Toothless turned back and looked forward at the Red Death, putting on a burst of speed past the chief. Then it was all focus on the gigantic, terrifying beast in front of them.

"We're on our own, but we can still do this, right bud?" Hiccup consoled, both the dragon and himself. Toothless nodded and slapped his own rider with an ear flap, giving Hiccup a scolding for worrying too much. "Yeah yeah, you're right. Let's do this bud!"

The rider-dragon pair started flying around the Red Death, zipping past its six eyes and throwing rocks in them, and they had grabbed a shield and mace and had agitated the beast through sound. The Red Death unhinged its jaw and started its deadly sucking at the Vikings below, and Toothless automatically jumped to their rescue, much to Hiccup's dismay.

"Oh you've got to be kidding me! You do realize they're the cause of this mess, right?" Toothless gave a quick, sharp, echoey roar and slapped Hiccup again with his ear flap before putting on another burst of speed and grabbed the beginning of the Viking chain that had formed and for them out of the suction breath. The Viking that was on the end shrieked like a girl.

Looking back at who it was, Hiccup inwardly groaned.

"Oh you've got to be kidding me..."

"HICCUP! You get me and yourself off this dragon this instant!" Snotlout demanded.

"No can do Snotlout, this guy has a mind of his own. Toothless, bring him and the rest of them down gently. Don't mess around." Toothless nodded, looking under his belly and the Viking boy and adult Vikings desperately holding on behind him.

They dropped Snotlout and the rest of the Vikings gently to the ground, and suddenly had to immediately dodge the swinging of the Red Death's club like tail. It swung above the Vikings before coming back for another pass like a sideways pendulum, not knowing who the real threat was

"Toothless, up!" Hiccup cried, and the Night Fury complied And shot upwards into the sky. Hiccup looked back down at the dragon the size of a mountain, and noticed something he hadn't before.

"That thing has wings... Well, let's see if it can use them!" Toothless turned and dived back towards the Red Death, throwing out his wings when he got close to the ground and started firing off his triplets of plasma bolts at the beast. The Vikings had moved to the edges of the beach, as far away from the fight as possible.

The other teens Hiccup had trained with, and Gobber, watched anxiously and in awe, while Stoick, although impressed, was still hurt and angry, betrayed, and glared at the pure black form that was flying and fighting around the much larger one.

The Red Death had enough pestering and spread its huge, thin spread wings, and slowly took off from the ground. Toothkess's and Hiccup's eyes widened. "Well, at least we know it can fly!" The Red Death opened its maw, and suddenly, huge billows of fire like the sun poured out of its mouth.

"Okay, Toothless, it's time to disappear?!" Hiccup questioned himself. Toothless, however, was sure of the command and soared into the dark clouds where his small dark body blended in perfectly. The Red Death followed them and looked around infuriated, not seeing it's smaller black subject. Hiccup stayed silent and low to Toothless's back, not giving away their position and letting his partner take over the battle.

He shot a plasma bolt at the Red Death, before shooting to a different position and firing again, confusing and infuriating the enemy even more. Finally the Red Death had had enough and finally reacted, and started spewing fire in every direction, lighting the clouds and Toothless's artificial tail on fire.

"Okay, time's up." Hiccup worried when he looked back and saw the flaming appendage be whisked away by the wind. The Red Death spotted the rider and dragon and started its lethal breathing suction to swallow the pests whole. Hiccup and Toothless somehow almost had their minds connect, and were both thinking the same thing.

Dragons were fireproof on the outside, but not on the inside.

"Toothless hold... NOW!" Toothless spun while using the suction breath to keep him in place. The Night Fury fired his signature white-purple bolts down the throat of the Red Death. It stopped its death suction and started falling back into the ocean below. But without the outside force to help Toothless stay aloft, gravity took a hold of the dragon-rider duo, pulled them apart, and left them flailing in the air.

"TOOTHLESS!" Hiccup screamed, trying to get to his panicking best, and now only, friend. Toothless made some sort of reply, but the rushing wind and crashing drowned it out. Hiccup was on his own in the air, a place no Vi- no. Person should be without a dragon partner.

The human narrowly dodged the bone-hard frill and back ridges of the Red Death, but then his heart froze and sunk. "Oh no," that was the last thing Hiccup remembered, plus the sight of the huge clubbed tail coming closer and a wave of heat behind him before his world went black.
