Allies
TBH idk why I never added Eret before this. He was never really a part of the original plot so I'm glad I was able to figure something out for him. This new plot, albeit not that changed, has almost all of the significant canon characters between the movies and TV show, even if only mentioned, but I like this a lot more than what I did before.
This is the last chapter for the night so next time I get a good chunk of free time (which sounds like tomorrow since we're living in a hotel for the next few weeks) I'll continue fixing my mistakes and getting this sorted out before I go back to Rebel and I'll probably be deleting some stupid filler chapters and working out plot kinks and such there too

"Rider! Rider, thank goodness," one of the Defenders of the Wing nearly fainted when Sun and Nightstalker landed in the center of their village.
"Where's Queen Mala and Throck?" Sun asked, normally used to seeing the Queen and her bodyguard there to greet them when the Riders visited.
"That's just it sir, they're gone! We searched the entire island!" the Defender explained, starting to panic.
"Goodness he's panicking more than a Terrible Terror with a fish. Here, want one of the dragon fruits?" Nightstalker asked the young Defender, holding up one of the sage fruits that normally calms said dragons. The Defender looked at the Night Fury curiously, before realizing what the dragon was trying to say and laughed.
"Thanks bud, but I don't think that's helpful at all." Sun said for the Defender.
"Fine. Suit yourself."
"So, what happened?" Sun questioned, asking all the Defenders.
"No one knows, sir. There was some unknown ships spotted earlier, but they did not seem to be heading this way." this peaked Sun's interest, Ameris had reported something similar this morning.
"Those ships must be whoever is taking them. This isn't a coincidence... Listen up please!" Sun was quickly starting to put things together. The worried Defenders looked to Sun, who was already really the center of attention.
"As it seems, someone is trying to... attack us, in a way." Sun gestured to himself and Nightstalker. "Earlier today my Riders, my friends, my family, were also taken. Kidnapped. In the same way it seems your Queen has. But I promise, I am going to try everything I can to get our friends back!" the Defenders held a tense silence for a moment after this announcement, before slowly started cheering. It wasn't a hopeful cheer, but one that meant they believed Sun could and would achieve his promise. The Defenders of the Wing and the Dragon Riders were close allies, having their Queen and her bodyguard of the Defenders and almost all the Riders was a huge hit and clearly worrisome.
"Hiccup, you know this isn't a coincidence, right?" Nightstalker asked seriously once his Rider was out of the spotlight.
"Of course. Whoever this is is trying to force us to Berk, probably. By taking our allies and friends without any clues as to where or what he wants-"
"Or she."
"Whatever, is making it more of a priority for us to follow their demands and make us do what they want us to do."
Nightstalker laughed dryly in his special way. "You sound like Viggo when he's planning with Minden's bluntness."
"Well it's good to know my friends have an impact on me. Can you say that with Windshear, or Brawn and Brain?"
"...shut up."
Sun and Nightstalker said a tense farewell to the Defenders, continuing their promise to find and return their Queen. At the moment their young healer was running the village, and she was okay, but it was not in Defender customs to not have their Queen to guide them.
"Where to next, Hiccup?" Nightstalker questioned seriously, both the Rider and Dragon on edge from these events.
"This is far fetched, but I'm thinking to try to find Eret. He's a rogue, but they have visited the Edge a lot, and he seems to know quite a few people we don't. If this person is going for allies, they're a close one." Sun replied, having already thought of his answer.
"Hopefully we can find them." Nightstalker agreed dismally and put on an urgent burst of speed.
"Ahoy there! Sun! Night! Is that you?"
"Thank the stars above and the sea below."
"Eret! Boy am I glad to see you. Where's your crew?" Sun asked, Nightstalker slowing down to match the rogue's small boat's pace. Eret son of Eret (or other various, endearing names some of the Riders have come up with) was a traveling merchant that often did business with Viggo previously, and now the Riders as a whole. He was a deserter from an insane, evil man called Dragon Bludvist from the north after a dragon saved his life. Once he and his men left, it halted a majority of production of an entire dragon army. Whatever Drago had been planning needed to stay in the northern cold, so Eret had reassured the inhabitants of the warm archipelago many times that it was almost impossible for the powerful, insane man to invade their home.
"Something uh... happened, and you might be in danger." Sun explained, searching for a word. Eret's posture immediately went on alert.
"Follow me. I'm heading back to my ship. We can talk there."
"Need a lift?" Nightstalker asked and grabbed a stray rope at the front of the boat. The powerful Night Fury started beating his wings and family soon the boat was sailing thrice the speed it was before.
After a few minutes of completely-not-awkward silence, a much larger ship appeared on the horizon and they soon landed on the deck. Eret climbed up a few minutes later and waved off his staring men before inviting the Rider duo into his quarters.
"So," Eret jumped straight into the hanging conversation. "Why might we be in possible danger?" He waved his hand around to his ship and crew.
Sun silently held out the ransom letter for the captain to read. Eret's face morphed from confusion to shock as his eyes moved from left to right across the paper.
"The other Riders are gone?" He asked, looking angrily shocked. Sun and Nightstalker nodded stiffly.
"The Edge is trashed. No sign of anyone. And we just went by the Defenders, Mala and Throck are gone too. Whoever this is trying to force us to Berk by holding our allies against us. If anything, you guys are our last allies, along with the outside people you know, and the next targets."
Neither said anything for another moment.
"Well we're lucky you found us first then." Eret summarized.
Nightstalker let out a whine, then huffed and nodded.
"Well... care to join us for the night? We can head out and start searching for the missing guys in the morning." Erer finally sighed, thinking about the news in concentration.
"Sure. If your men don't mind. You okay with that bud?" Sun verified with his dragon.
"If we didn't, then we'd pretty much be handing them back over to this freaky phantom dude."
"Well at least I was being polite!"
"When have you ever been polite instead of sarcastic?"
"Touche, Toothless."
"I am still not used to this Dragonese talk..." Eret muttered aloud and opened the door to his office, watching to Dragon and his Rider bicker.
"It's not that weird. I mean, you get along with the other Riders just fine. And how many others have we met that talk to their dragons? Befriending and partnering with a dragon isn't that uncommon." One of his men passing by reminded bluntly.
"Need I remind you whose in charge here?"
Eret subtly threatened the dim-witted sailor. The short fellow violently shook his head before a joking smile was painted on both men's faces. Eret let out a bellow and clapped him on the back, making the sailer stumble and nearly fall on his face.
This is going to be a looooooooong next few weeks...
