Chapter 27 - Sleeping Sakura = Happy Sakura
[A/N: I find this pic hilarious XD]
"I've decided to terminate our alliance with Konoha."
Nobody said anything for a minute, still processing what their new Kage had said. But aside from that, the reaction Gaara got from the ex-Leaf nin was instantaneous. Or rather, the reaction he got from Jiraiya was.
"Eh? Why!" Everyone in the room (except for Kakashi) stared at Jiraiya with an are-you-stupid look. Then, after another moment of silence, Gaara let out a long sigh and decided to elaborate.
"It's too risky. It may not be very obvious, but Konoha has many enemies. They just didn't want to risk going up against Minato. And because of..." Gaara trailed off, glancing at Naruto briefly before continuing, "Recent events, nothing is stopping Konoha from getting attacked by all those small villages they've managed to piss off."
"In a nutshell, we don't want Suna to get dragged into Konoha's battles anymore." Kankuro summarized.
"Not to mention that one of their council members killed our Kage." Temari added on, making her two brothers nod in agreement. However Naruto noticed they showed no signs of remorse for their late father.
"Wasn't the Kazekage your dad too?" Naruto asked, Kankuro nodded in confirmation.
"Yeah he was. But his duties to the village lied before his duty as a father. We didn't talk much." The blonde looked down, not knowing how to respond.
"Oh," Then there was a long, awkward pause. Nobody wanted to make eye contact with the three siblings, so most of the ex-Konoha shinobi just stared at the ground. (Or in Sasuke's case, the ceiling.)
Having had enough of the uncomfortable silence, Gaara cleared his throat. "We're here to discuss your living arrangements." The redhead nodded for Temari to continue. The blonde kunoichi pulled out a map of Suna and held it up so that everyone could see it.
"You seven will be living in these four houses. The Sannin will each get their own and the rest will share this one." She explained, pointing to one of the four houses, and before she could continue she was cut off by Orochimaru.
"Uh...Kazekage-sama, can we speak with you in private?" Gaara wordlessly nodded, motioning for everyone to leave before shutting the door.
Once they were outside, Naruto started whining. "That's not fair 'ttebayo! Why can't we get our own houses too?" Kankuro grinned cheekily.
"Wait 'till you see the houses before complaining." The puppet wielder then motioned for Team 7 to follow him out of the Kazekage's tower.
.
.
.
"The Sannin are gonna live in those?" Naruto let out an obnoxious laugh after saying that.
The four of them were standing in the middle of four houses. The one for Team 7 was a fairly large and well maintained house, while the other three were rickety cottages. "Yep, we can't have them living together, the house wouldn't last a day!" Kankuro explained with an amused smirk. Kakashi huffed,
"Those houses are much too shabby for someone of Jiraiya-sama's standing!" Sasuke rolled his eyes,
"Can you please shut up about you 'Jiraiya-sama'? It's getting really weird Kakashi-sensei 'ttebayo!" Sakura turned to Sasuke and whispered,
"As if it wasn't weird to begin with." The ex-Uchiha nodded with a sigh. Then Kankuro smiled awkwardly and clapped his hands together.
"Well, how about you all settle down. I'll go see what Gaara and those other three are up to." The puppet wielder unlocked the door to the large house and handed the key to Kakashi before heading in the direction of the Kazekage's tower.
"Whoa, this is huge!" Sakura yelled, her voice echoing off the walls as she plopped ungracefully onto the luxurious couch, laying with her limbs sprawled out around here. Sasuke and Kakashi calmly followed her inside. The masked jounin sat across from Sakura and pulled out his book, while Sasuke remained at the entrance.
"Hn, where'd the Dobe run off to?" The ravenette looked to his two remaining teammates, Kakashi was clearly engrossed in his smut novel, and Sakura....
"-Snore-" Yeah, he wasn't going to risk waking her up. So with a sigh, the ex-Uchiha chose a random hallway and started waking.
.
.
.
(Back with Kakashi and Sakura)
A few minutes after Sakura fell asleep, she was awakened by a characteristically loud voice.
"So that's where you guys were 'ttebayo! I was looking all over for you!" Kakashi wordlessly looked up at his blonde student, who had Kurama perched on his shoulder. Wasn't Sasuke looking for him or something? Oh well...
Sakura groaned and lifted her head from the comfy furniture to stare tiredly at the blonde jinchuuriki. "Sasuke went looking for you. Bring him back here will ya?" The pinkette then let out a sluggish yawn and nestled back into the couch.
"Hmm...Okay then!" Naruto then walked leisurely across the room to another random hallway. And just before Sakura fell back asleep, she thought she heard Naruto say, "Hey, Kurama! There's another voice in my head dattebayo!" But it must've just been her imagination.
.
.
.
It only took Naruto five minutes of walking to conclude that this house was way too big for four people. Who needs this much space anyway? The hallways were so echo-y they reminded him of the Root HQ. The blonde shook his head, it was too soon to think about that.
"Naruto!" The jinchuuriki whipped his head around, looking over his shoulder. But all he saw was an empty hallway that seemed to stretch on for miles. Strange, he swore he heard someone calling his name.
"Did you hear that Kurama?" The fox turned his head to look down at his jinchuuriki.
"Hear what?" Naruto shook his head,
"Nevermind, I was probably hearing things." The blonde started walking again at a considerably faster pace. He wanted to find Sasuke as quickly as possible and get back to Sakura and Kakashi. This place was giving him a headache.
"Naruto!" Naruto stopped in his tracks. At first, he thought it was the same voice. But the "Are you lost, Dobe?" immediately proved his initial thought wrong.
"More like you're lost Teme! Sakura made me go looking for you dattebayo!" The blonde turned around and came face to face with the ravenette he was previously looking for.
"Hn." Sasuke replied, wanting to say something but not really knowing what to speak about. Man his social skills needed work.
After realizing that the ravenette wasn't going to say anything more, the corners of Naruto's lips twitched upwards ever so slightly and started walking back the way he came, pausing a few moments later to make sure Sasuke was following him.
