Scars Don't Heal Part 3

"What?" You insinuated your tone in disbelief.

"I know what I'm asking is difficult—"

"Difficult? Saitama, you're asking me to have a common chat with a man who drugged me for months!" You yelled exasperated. You could feel your body tensing and tears forming.

"I know, I know! But please understand that this isn't entirely his fault. There was an irregularity in his systems that made him go haywire," Saitama reasoned.

"And who's to say that's fixed?" You countered.

"Dr. Kuseno took care of it."

But you continued to shake your head. "I can't. I'm sorry. I just can't."

"You can't be scared for the rest of your life, (y/n)!" Saitama surprised you with his stern voice, but he replaced it with a sigh. "Look, it's hard, I get that. But maybe that's what you need: Closure. You need to see his side of what happened and what he thinks of it all."

"And then what?" You asked weakly.

"And then you decide. You can forgive and forget, or you can accept that it happened and move on. Either way, I really believe this talk can do you some good."

"I'm scared, Saitama," You admitted, casting your gaze down. "I'm really scared."

"I know and this won't be easy, but it will be for the best. For both of you." He squeezed your shoulder comfortingly and then pulled you in for a quick hug.

"Will you be there?" You asked.

"I think it's better I'm not in the room, but I will be in the next one in case anything happens. If you feel threatened or afraid in anyway, you can just give me a shout and I'll be there in the wink of an eye," Saitama reassured.

You nodded softly into his shoulder. "When and where does he want to meet?"

"Uhh....that's the thing...he's already here," The bald hero replied nervously.

You immediately knocked away his hands and stared at him wide-eyed. "What!?"

"He's outside the door. He's waiting on my okay to invite him in." Saitama raised his hands in defense.

"And what were you going to do if I said no!?"

"Tell him to go away," He shrugged. "I honestly didn't think you'd agree to this."

"Oh god, does he want to talk now?" You started to hyperventilate. "Zara might be home any second—"

"I'll stand outside if she does. I'll talk to her and let her know you guys are discussing things."

You stood quiet and crossed your arms. "......am I going to be able to do this?" You questioned yourself aloud. "I.....I don't know what to do....."

"Then don't do anything. Let Genos do the talking. I mean, he is the one who wanted to do it in the first place," Saitama said.

You nodded silently. "Okay."

"Alright, so are you ready?" He asked, going to the front door and circling his hand on the knob.

You stared at the one large object separating you from what awaited you on the other side. You outlined every single curve and line on the decorative frame to distract yourself from the anxiety building up in your chest. You glanced at Saitama, wanting run and hide at that second, but instead you nodded.

You felt the urge to throw up as the door slowly stood ajar....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Genos was more shocked to see that the door had finally been opened. His eyes followed from the carpet up to the scuffed sneakers inside. He trailed the legs that connected to the shoes and found a pair of trembling hands crisscrossing nervously. He flicked his gaze up to yours before he lost the courage to and found your soft (e/c) eyes deep in a solemn stare.
"I'll be outside." Saitama stepped passed him while clapping the cyborg's shoulder. ".....be careful." Genos knew he didn't mean it for his sake. He meant to be careful with you.
He heard the jingle of the door being shut behind him as he hesitantly made his way inside. All the while, your eyes never left him.
You appeared to want to say something but were too scared to breach the surface. Genos felt a shudder of sadness in his chest as he searched your face for any sign that his (y/n) was still there. Your eyes looked older, like they had seen too much in an entire lifespan. Your cheeks were thin and pale while your mouth stood in the most silent line he had ever heard from you.
Despite the cyborg's mouth going dry, he spoke. "(y/n)....it's good to see you."
You bit your lip and looked at your feet nodding.
Genos wanted to beg for you to talk to him but he knew he had to be patient and earn it. "I....I'm glad you decided to....talk to me," He tried to put the matter delicately. "I know that what I say today won't change anything, but....I still wanted to....tell you how I felt." You nodded for him to continue.
The cyborg cleared his throat anxiously. A pang of hurt rang in his chest when he saw you jump slightly out of the corner of his eye. "You may have already been told this, but I had a technical malfunction with my body that made me act the way I did. I'm not us this as an excuse though. I should have known better in the first place."
"But please believe me when I say that I am truly sorry for what I have done." Genos's looked into your eyes for a brief second before you couldn't hold the gaze and broke away. But his sight was solely fixed on you. "I....messed up, badly. I did the one thing I promised myself I would never do. I hurt you. I hurt you in more ways than I can count. I never wanted to do that, (y/n). I'm so sorry all the things I did to you."
By now, your shoulders were shaking and your eyes were glassy from the fresh tears pooling in them. Genos also felt a wet liquid rolling down his cheek. "And the fact that I inflicted this pain hurts me the most. I was supposed to protect you, but I was too blind to see that I also needed to protect you from myself."
"No matter how many time I say this, no matter what I try, I will never be able to apologize enough for what I put you through," Genos choked. "I'm so sorry, (y/n)."
You glanced up to meet those brilliant golden eyes. You didn't know how you were able to hold out your gaze for so long, but something in those pain-stricken eyes of black and gold was an emotion you hadn't seen in him in a long time. Guilt, suffering, but most of all, anguish. A desperate anguish that conveyed the love that your old Genos would always blanket you in. However, here he was pouring it all out after a long time of living with the haunting memory of the Genos who hung over your every move.
He took a step forward causing you to instinctively stumble backwards. Your body tensed as your back hit the wall and your knees grew weak. The concerned cyborg advanced as you began to fall to the floor.
You felt your vision blur and your heart suddenly begin hammering in your chest when you saw Genos nearing you. You had seen this happen too many times. Your mind was filled with memories of him pinning your wrists and stabbing unknown needles into your body. Your hand clamped around your neck as you crawled away in vain.
Genos knelt down and tried to somehow help but your pupils were dilated to the brim of your iris in fright. Your teeth were chattering as tear drops fell from your eyes.
"(y/n)?" Genos questioned, wanting to reach out to you but not daring to lay a finger.
"G-get back," You stuttered with a shaky breath. You knew somewhere in your brain that you were talking to the normal Genos, yet your body had memorized all the aspects of the other.
While warning him to stay away, you had held out your palm. The cyborg felt his heart shattering as he watched your trembling figure retreating from him. Without thinking, he had grabbed your hand.
He felt the increase of tension in your muscle and quickly pulled your fingers to his lips. "(y/n), please, don't be afraid. I'm not going to hurt you," Genos pleaded.
You looked like you wanted to scream but the noise was caught in your throat. Genos expressed his deepest sorrow on his face in an effort to convince you that he wasn't the same person from before. "(y/n), listen to me. I'm not going to hurt you. I want to help you, let me at least do that."
Your chest was moving rapidly in tune with your breathing but you otherwise hadn't argued. As gently and as slowly as he could, Genos slipped a hand around your waist while the other gripped yours. He pulled you up to your feet whilst gazing softly into your eyes that were staring at him with an unreadable expression.
After a pause, you both realized that you two were holding onto each other for quite a long time. Genos was lost in those clear (e/c) eyes while you were trying to decipher the emotion behind his. You soon found that it wasn't what emotion you were looking at, it was the fact that there was an emotion that threw you off.
~~~~~~~~~~~At this point, you guys decide the ending you want :) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Staying with Genos:

His arms being around you should have terrified you. They should have caused you to scream out for Saitama, but you didn't. Somehow, you were entranced by his mesmerizing gold eyes.....

The next thing you knew, he was leaning in ever so gradually. Genos's lips ran across yours delicately, as if testing the waters. Seeing your frozen response, he decided to take the chance and pressed his lips to yours.

To your surprise, you felt something spur in your chest. You were too shocked so for a few seconds you were immobile. But after feeling the effect of his soft his in yours, you began to move in sync.

Both of you were aware of how fragile the air between you two was so the kiss was desperately slow and separated often only to be pulled back in. However, this didn't mean the kiss was meaningless, far from it. For you, it was your Genos coming to break some of the chains that tightened around you every day. It was a moment of sweet release. But it was so much more for the cyborg. It was bliss; it was heaven. It was the slight touch and yet it made him feel so full and so empty at the same time. He knew that he would have to break away so he wouldn't cause you to be uncomfortable but it was difficult to even think of that.

It was as if the months of absence of one another were finally being restored.

However, you were the one to end it.

You placed a hand on his chest and pushed him away. "I'm sorry....but I can't," You whispered. "Not now."

Genos nodded, backing away. "I understand." There was a short distance between you two now.

You looked at him with less fright in your gaze. "I know that what happened....wasn't entirely your fault. And I can't blame you for the malfunction," You started to speak quietly. "But I can't forgive you just like that. I....I need time."

Genos expressed his understanding through his eyes, but there was also a lingering question in them. And you knew what it was.

"I want us to start fresh, and that means from the very beginning. I want us to be friends. I'm sorry, but I need to be able to trust you again before anything," You said in a careful tone.

"Yes, of course that's fine." He a small smile found his lips. "It's a start, and that's all I ask for."

"(y/n)!!" Saitama suddenly burst through the front door. "Zara's here!"

"I thought you said you were going to stall her?" You questioned.

"I'm not exactly the best person for that though. Come on, we gotta go, Genos," The bald hero urged.

The cyborg walked up to you again, and to your surprise, you didn't flinch. He pulled you to him by your elbows and then wrapped his arms around you. "Thank you for giving me a second chance." He tilted your chin up and quickly pecked your lips. "I still love you."

"No kissing. We're becoming friends first, remember?" You reminded.

"Right." You saw one of the biggest smiles spread across his face.

"I like that you guys are working things out, but we have to leave now!" Saitama yelled.

You watched as they crawled through one of the windows of the house and landed out onto the streets. Just as they were about to round the corner, Genos stopped and looked back. Your eyes met and it was as if time had stopped. You didn't realize you were smiling until Genos gave you one of his own. However, he was soon pulled away from your encounter by a frantic Saitama.

Scar may not heal

But they show us just how far we've come

Leaving Genos:

Genos gazed softly into your unresponsive eyes. Before he could control himself, he was brining you closer. For a flicker of a moment, he thought he saw you wince, but he had already pressed his lips to yours.

And by then he was overtaken by your touch.

Genos pulled you closer by wrapping an arm around your waist and placing the other behind your neck. He pushed you deeper into the kiss to somehow show you how he still felt. He wanted to express how terrible he felt for all he had done. Genos wanted to give you a reason that he was still worth giving a second chance.

But you just couldn't do that.

You placed your hands on his chest and shoved him away. "Stop!" You yelled hoarsely. Not a second later did Saitama practically unhinge the front door.

"(Y/N)!" The bald hero glanced between you and the cyborg trying to decipher what was going on. "What's going on?"

"I-I'm sorry! I shouldn't have—" Genos stammered before you jumped in. "Don't!" You pointed at him as you backed away. "Don't! Not anymore!"

You had tried to withhold from crying but the tears were already falling. The scarring memories of the past came back like whiplash. You remembered his cold metal hands, the sharp needles, the helpless screams. All of it came back.

But you'd be damned if you would live through that hell again.

"Don't you dare touch me!" You shouted through angry tears. Saitama had to come over to you and grab your arms to calm you down.

"What did you do!?" Saitama snapped sharply at the cyborg.

"I got carried away and got too close," Genos explained in a rush.

"I knew I couldn't do this, Saitama! Why did you tell me to go through with this!?" You sobbed, sinking to the ground. You covered your eyes with your hands in desperation. "I can't.....I can't....."

"Don't say that...please..." Genos gazed at you with frantic panic. "I'm sorry. I messed up, but please—"

"No!" You cried out. "I don't want to! I don't want to remember all those awful times! I can't escape them in my dreams but at least I have the choice to escape them in reality!"

"(y/n)...." Genos's voice cracked as a black liquid spilled from his eyes.

You shook your head. "No...." You croaked. "No more....no more...."

"I think you should go," Saitama said, standing up from his knelt position.

Genos's golden eyes flickered between you and his sensei. His gaze lingered most on your broken form.

He couldn't fix this. No matter how he looked at it, he couldn't. He had scarred you too deeply. He changed you into this irreversible form of a human. You would only see him as the monster who had done this to you. And there was nothing he could do about it.

Genos suddenly felt the weight of his metal body a lot heavier. He wanted to beg for a chance but he knew it wouldn't be wise to do so. It was an act committed in vain.

His vision blurred from the stream of tears rolling down his face. "Alright. I'll leave you. You won't have to see me ever again."

You said nothing, only stared at the floorboards beneath you. Genos wanted his core to explode in his chest when he turned his back to you and walked out the door. Never in his life had he felt so lost as when he left you in there, never seeing you again. He had loved and lost it all, and honestly, that was the worst pain he had ever felt in his existence.
