Scars Don't Heal Part 2
"Oh god, (y/n), that's horrible..." Saitama looked at you with a sympathetic gaze as you concluded the horrors of these past months. "I-I'm so sorry I never noticed. I just never expected—"
"I don't think anyone did; I sure didn't," You said quietly. "I....I don't know what to do from here...."
"Well, the best you can do is go back to a normal life as possible," Saitama suggested. "I'm not saying it's going to be easy, but I'll be there to help you."
"This all seems so surreal," You sighed. "I'm not dreaming right?" But then again if you were, how was that possible? The drugs Genos would give you knocked you out enough that you were in between the state of drowsy and deep slumber. You never got a decent night's sleep, you never got to dream. There was no escape for you.
"You're awake, this is real," Saitama said before you could hyperventilate. "You're going to be okay."
You blinked back tears and sniffed. "I really hope so."
Just then, there was a small knock at the door. After making their presence known they opened the door without hesitation. You were stunned to see who it was.
"Y-yami?" You stuttered in disbelief.
"Aunt (y/n)!" The little girl ran up to your bed with a bright smile on her face. She reached out her arms for you to pick her up and you mechanically responded.
"Hey..." Zara greeted sadly as she entered. Her eyes were slightly red as if she had been crying.
Once she got to your bedside, she let out a sob and wrapped her arms around you. "Oh my god," Zara cried quietly. "Thank God you're alright."
"I'm sorry." You returned her embrace with tearful eyes.
"That goddamn bastard I'm going to kill him," She said angrily. "I've missed you so much. I got so worried when you would call less frequently, but Genos would always have some excuse ready."
Zara suddenly pulled away not wanting to alarm the small child. She wiped away her tears and gave your hand a squeeze. "I'm just really glad you're okay."
"What's wrong, Aunt (y/n)? Are you sick?" Yami asked you with big curious eyes.
"Yeah, but I'm getting better." You gave her a weak smile. "Don't worry, honey."
"Where's Uncle Genos?"
A shudder a fear flowed through your body as you tried to come up with something to say. Luckily, you didn't have to.
"He's out on mission," Saitama replied.
"So Yami," You said, quickly trying to steer the conversation somewhere else. "You've gotten so big! Wow, it's almost like yesterday you were only toddler."
In truth, she had grown. You noticed there was a slight height difference but Yami was still pretty small for her age. "I called you for my birthday! We had cake and everything but Uncle Genos said you couldn't go 'cause you were sick," Yami dejected.
"She's six now," Zara informed.
"W-wow, really?" You couldn't hide the tears falling from your face. "You've really grown...." You had missed so much in these past few months; it made you think what else were you completely oblivious about. It felt like you had died and had come back to find the world had changed so drastically.
Your life had been stolen from you during that time.
You opened your mouth to speak but the only thing that came out were the tears. You covered your face as you saw how the little girl stared at you with such sorrow. You wanted to tell Zara to leave you be for a moment but you were afraid your voice my crack and scare Yami even more.
"I think you guys should let her rest for little bit," Saitama said, getting up from his chair and escorting the girls out.
You heard Zara choke on a sob but grabbed Yami off the bed. "Yeah....I understand."
"I hope you feel better, Aunt (y/n)...." You heard the little girl mutter before the door shut behind them.
That's when you finally allowed yourself to break down. You sat up and clutched your knees to your chest, rocking back and forth and you sobbed.
Nothing was right. You didn't feel right. You felt out of place, broken, irreparable. Even of you tried to live normally again, it wouldn't be the same. Those memories were still in the back of your head reminding you of just how weak you were. You couldn't breathe, you couldn't talk, you were scared. Paralyzed with fear that the memories would come back and become permanent or they would forever stay engraved in your mind.
And you just couldn't live with that risk.

"YOU!" The blonde woman with a child on her hip enunciated with such venom. "How DARE you show up here!?"
Genos didn't know how to respond. He couldn't really disagree with her. "I need to see (y/n)."
"Like hell you are! You're not going anywhere near her!"
"Momma, why are you mad at Uncle Genos?" Yami tugged on her mother's sleeve.
"He's not your uncle anymore. You just forget about him," Zara hissed, keeping her eyes on the cyborg.
"Miss, are you a friend of (y/n)'s?" Kuseno asked.
"Yes, I am, so you can understand why I don't want him near her," She said.
"Please, let him explain his side of the story and perhaps this situation can become clearer," Kuseno reasoned.
"I have no interest in anything he has to say," Zara responded coldly. "(y/n) doesn't have the mental strength right now to see anybody and that includes my daughter and I. So it's probably best that you all leave her alone."
"What's going on—" Saitama cut himself short when he saw the cyborg. He closed the door to your room behind him. "Genos.....how are you doing?"
Genos shook his head. "I'm fine, but please, (y/n)—"
He was stopped immediately by a hand on his chest. "Don't you take another step," Zara warned.
"Momma...." Yami glanced between the pair uncomfortably.
"I'll take care of this, don't worry." Saitama broke them apart. "You should get the little girl out of all this tension."
Zara received submissive nod from Saitama but kept her gaze on both. Finally, she gave in. "Fine. Take care of (y/n) for me. Tell her to call me if she needs anything." She shot Genos one last glare before leaving with Yami. The six year old stared after Genos with transfixed eyes.
He smiled softly at her but was pulled back into reality by Saitama. "What are you doing here? Kuseno, I thought you said you'd keep him away from the hospital."
"He's fine, I fixed the problem. But....he wanted confirmation on how well (y/n) is doing," Kuseno replied.
"She's doing her best, considering," Saitama sighed. "I don't know....She's not the same anymore...."
"Can you ask her if she could see me?" Genos blurted out.
"Genos." Kuseno looked at him in surprise.
"No, don't even think about it. She's on day 1 of recovery, you can't just barge in," Saitama shut down automatically. "She told me you know....what you did...."
Genos's stomach felt like it was being contorted by the terrible memories of you these past months. "I-I didn't mean to..."
"I really hope you didn't," Saitama said with a bit of bite. "I don't know if we're ever going to get our (y/n) back."
"I'm sorry...." Genos managed to keep his trembling voice steady.

3 Weeks Later
You had been checked out of the hospital 2 days after the incident with a list of PTSD therapists given to you by the doctors there. Saitama hadn't released the information on the identity of your aggressor because he wanted you to make that final decision. You didn't understand why until he explained some of it.
"Look, I know you're upset but there are some things you gotta know."
"Like what?" You asked.
"If you do decide to file Genos as an offender than the Hero Association will most likely swoop in to defend him, him being S Class and all. And there's not guarantee which direction that will go," Saitama explained. "If you don't well....I don't how you'll feel about that."
"I....I just don't want to think about him anymore." You shook you head solemnly. "I'll leave him be. We'll both move on and go on our separate ways." Saitama had told you about the malfunction that cause Genos to act the way he did. But you didn't care. You didn't want to talk about that time in your life.
And that's how it was for a while. Saitama offered to let you stay at his place but you couldn't bring yourself to even near the apartment complex because right next to his house was the one you had shared with Genos. Instead you were welcomed over at Zara's. You promised her and her husband that you would be out of their hair as soon as you could gather up the money to get an apartment, but they brushed off your worries and told you that you could stay as long as you needed.
Behind the scenes though, Genos was watching out for you. He figured that if he couldn't talk to you directly than the next best thing was taking care of you from afar. But even then he felt guilty. The guilt of deeds took root at the center of his being and continuously grew all around him as the days went on.
Genos saw the pauses in your speech or how you wouldn't look someone in the eye when they spoke to you. You would fidget with your fingers when no one was paying attention and your gaze would wander to another dimension. These were all signs of your anxiety eating away at you.
This wasn't you. The girl he fell in love with was witty, funny, and loved to strike a conversation out of the strangest topics. The light behind your eyes had disappeared. You would jump in fright at any sudden movement and with every hesitant action, Genos's heart broke a little more.
He had down this to you. He was to blame for your loss of life in your smile. You didn't sleep, you hardly ate. It was Genos's fault for making you into this eat-and-sleep machine. And sometimes you didn't even do that.
One day he just couldn't stand seeing you like this and called up Saitama.
"Hello?"
"I need to talk to her. Please, you're the only one that can convince her to hear me out," Genos begged.
"Genos....I don't know if me talking to her would do any good," Saitama dejected. "She's....doesn't want anything to do with you..."
"Please, Sensei," Genos pleaded earnestly. "I just want to talk to her. I'm not asking her to include me in her life but I beg of her to listen to what I have to say. I-I need to let her know how much she means to me and that I'm sorry for all the grief I've cause her."
"I don't know...."
"Sensei, I've given her time. Now, all I'm asking is that she talks to me. If she wants to throw in a few punches that fine, but I just need to see her." The cyborg's vision began to blur with tears. "Please....I know that no amount of apologies can atone for what I did but I still feel I have to say them."
"......"
"Sensei?"
He heard a sigh on the other line. "I'll....I'll see what I can do."
Genos knew that he should have felt happy being given this chance, but inside he felt his stomach twisting into anxious knots. "Thank you, Sensei...."
Alright, I came to a stand still. Whenever I write I try to make things as real as possible, however, here people want different outcomes. Some want to stay with Genos despite the traumatic experience the reader has gone through and others might want a super angsty ending where the reader and Genos separate. So what I want to ask is would you prefer the ending to be realistic or practical? Essentially:
Patch things up with Genos?
or
Leave Genos?
Now, both of these have two separate endings that I will finalize once the majority decides by the 3rd of July (in two weeks on Wednesday). Don't rush your decisions, think carefully on what you want, and also, don't think that because you choose one or the other that it's going to be what you think. I still have a twist to add ;)
Oh and @gaohlue I will get to your one shot for Genos after this one is over :) (And your Sonic one will be the next one coming out in that book)
