Illumination
Abuse Trigger Warning
Don't worry, it's fluffy since many were terrified by Yandere Gen-Gen.
You hummed to yourself as you stood in the bathroom. You had just stepped out of the shower and were in a towel brushing through your hair. You were about to put the comb down when a booming sound caused you leap and let go of the object. It clattered to the floor as you held a hand over your heart.
You sighed and picked up the brush to put it away. There was a dangerous lightning storm looming over City Z tonight and all citizens in the area were advised to stay indoors. This also applied to any and all heroes who were nearby.
You shuddered as another roll of thunder sounded. You were happy to have Genos around right now but you could only imagine how bored he must be. He wasn't the type of person to just sit around and wait, he liked to take action.
You started thinking about how miserable he must be as you slipped on your PJ's. Last you saw the cyborg he was in the living room flipping through the channels with a dull expression.
Maybe a movie might....no, he'll probably find no amusement in it, You thought to yourself. You sighed, your inability to better the situation irritating you. Or perhaps—
You suddenly jolted as the lightning crackled furiously overhead. But this time it took the lights with it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Genos had been awakened by the surging sound of electricity and a piercing scream. His attention automatically went to the familiar shriek.
"(Y/N)!!!"
The cyborg was immediately on his feet and running to you. But then he faced a different obstacle. He tried the door handle but of course it was locked. Your cries became more hyperventilating, making Genos worry that much more.
He pounded his fists against the door as he tried to figure out what was going on. "(y/n)!? (Y/N)! Open the door!"
But you didn't seem to hear him. Your screams turned into desperation and sobs the more time ticked by.
"(Y/N)! What's wrong!? What's going on?" Genos called out.
After receiving no response again, he couldn't wait any longer. He grabbed the door knob and slammed down on it swiftly. The crushed lock gave away as Genos pushed the door open with his shoulder. His eyes had switched to night vision as soon as the lights went out.
He felt an awful stir in his chest when his eyes landed on you. Genos hurriedly bent down and put his arms on your shoulders. "(y/n), what's wrong?"
You knocked his hands away and pulled your knees to your chest. This surprised the cyborg greatly. He knew that you were deathly afraid of the dark but he had never seen you in one of those panic attacks. He also knew that the reason you were being so cold and pushing him away was because you weren't thinking straight. But still, he felt a little hurt.
"(y/n)," He tried for a calmer tone. "Look at me." You ignored him and continued to clutch at your sides.
"(y/n)—"
"D-don't touch me..." You managed to stutter out.
"You're not alone. Look at me, (y/n). Let me help you," Genos reached for your hands and gripped them before you could slip away.
"N-no...! S-stop! Stop it!" You panicked, your senses filling with fear. "G-get me out....it's too dark...."
"Okay, let me...."
Your anxiety slowly bubbled over as the voice in the darkness extended its tendrils and wrapped around you. In your mind, you knew it was Genos, but the sensation of something in the dark pulling you towards it made your danger signals go off.
You were fighting to control your spastic shaking as Genos lifted you up. You had no idea where he was going but you just shut your eyes and prayed for some kind of light to illuminate you.
After a quick stride, the cyborg sat down with you on his lap. You guessed he must've taken you to the living room because of light landing and the short walk. He pulled your legs onto the couch and snuggled you into his chest.
Just as his arms were beginning to calm you down, another bolt of lightning lit up the skies outside. You yelped and tugged Genos's shirt with trembling hands. "Fuck....Gen-genos....?" You stammered.
"It's okay, I'm right here. You're fine," The cyborg soothed as rocked you back and forth.
You shivered in his embrace as your memories flashed into your mind. You hadn't just randomly grown this phobia. No, it was scarred into your recollection when you were a child. You and your mother had run away from home to escape your abusive father one night, but he found you guys staying in one of your mom's friend's house. Ironically, it was also a stormy night that evening. The power had went out right when your father had busted through the door. Your mother, thinking ahead of time, had hidden you in a closet and managed to hide herself in a bathroom nearby.
You recalled those terrible moments of anticipation as you heard your father's footsteps glide across the wooden floorboards. You were sure he would open your door and snatch you out, but instead the door opposite yours was broken into.
You had to muffle your sobs as you heard your mother screams in pure darkness that surrounded you. But apparently you weren't the only one to hear them though because the neighbors had called the police. You heard them rush into the house and tackle your father to the ground.
It wasn't until later that they found you huddled up in the corner of the small closet crying. When they opened the door, a ray of light cast onto your face.
You remembered the flood of relief that coursed through your body. It was a sign that it was over, it was all over.
But that sense of escape was delaying you for the moment.
Recalling the dark past had made you even more anxious. You began to shake uncontrollably in Genos's arms. "Genos....?" Your trembling lips whispered.
"Yes?"
"I-I'm scared...."
Genos hated the fragility in your voice, as if at any second you could break. He cupped your cheek and turned your to face him. "I'll fight your fears, (y/n)," He kissed your forehead. "You don't have to worry about that."
You had made a brief mention of your history but he never pried you for details, especially since you seemed so distraught by it. He knew the basis of the development of your phobia but didn't know the specifics. But judging by your reaction now, it only made him sad as to what you had to go through.
"It's really dark," You shuddered as another wave of thunder crackled in the skies. "Please....make it stop..."
Genos could see your eyes were shut tightly as you buried your face in his chest. The cyborg was fraught with concern when he gently lifted your chin to him again. But even then you kept your eyes shielded from him.
"(y/n), look at me."
You furiously shook your head. "I...I can't."
"Please, open your eyes," Genos coaxed tenderly.
"Everything's too dark. I won't see a thing," You responded fearfully.
"I promise, if you open your eyes right now, I'll get you out of this darkness."
"Wha...what?"
"Do you believe in me?"
"Y-yes..."
Genos grabbed your face in his cool metal palms. "Then look at me."
It took you a minute but, hesitantly, you cracked one eyelid open. And that's all it took for that ray of light to seep into your retina. You were stunned for a second. How...?
You fully opened your eyes and saw the beautiful golden light staring into yours. They shone with a deep compassion that made them that much more comforting. "Genos...?" You breathed.
"I told you, I would fight your darkness right?" Through the dim glow around you two, you could see a small smile cross his features.
You raised your hand to stroke his cheek. "I....I don't know what...."
Genos chuckled softly. "Let me be your light, (y/n)."
He then pulled you onto his lips. Your heart swelled with emotions as you wrapped your arms around him. Your terror and memories disappeared the more you melted into the kiss. Genos also conveyed feelings of desperation and relief as he grazed his lips across yours.
You always knew you loved Genos. But you never knew it was possible to love a person this much. Tears rolled down your face as your realized how much he meant to you.
"Genos?" You spoke gently. He rested his forehead on yours contently and hummed a reply. "I love you."
Genos smiled and kissed you once again. "I love you too."
"And I don't need you to be my light."
His confused gaze automatically landed on your softened expression. "I don't you to be my light," You repeated, pecking his lips. "I just need you." And it was true. The golden light in his eyes wasn't what chased away your fears, it was the love in them that gave you the serenity you needed.
This brought a peaceful beam on the cyborg's face. "Alright."
This is my apology for those who didn't really like the last chapter. You might be upset to hear that Yandere Genos is here to stay. I'm sorry but it's too much fun to write and I don't know a possessive Genos is kinda sexy :3
