Gone Far Too Long
"Genos!!" You ran into the arms of your best friend at the airport.
The cyborg felt a huge wave of relief and happiness as he gently swept you off the floor by your waist. He could feel the giggling of your sweet voice in his ear and was comforted by the compassionate embrace you bestowed him.
He found himself hugging you tighter as the lonely moments of the past few months came back. You had left six months ago to study abroad in America and the poor lovesick cyborg had to endure your absence. You called and emailed him frequently during your stay over there but it wasn't the same as holding you like he was now.
The funny thing was Genos didn't realize he had any feelings for you until you were out of his reach. It was a few weeks into your journey that he started noticing how restless he was. He would constantly be awaiting your messages, always taking out his phone because he 'thought' he felt it buzz. He also noted how isolated he felt. Sure, he had Saitama to talk to but they didn't share that connection that you two had developed.
"It's only going to be for half the year," You reassured the cyborg. "I'll call you as soon as I get there."
Genos felt something unsettling in the pit of his stomach the more he listened to the time frame. But that was normal right? It wasn't our out of the ordinary to feel upset about a friend leaving.......right?
"Alright. Be safe, (y/n)."
He sighed internally as he set you down and got a good look at your face. But nothing was unchanged, you still had that beautiful smile and glittering (e/c) eyes.
"What?" You said nervously playing with your fingers. "Not what you expected?"
"You're everything I expected," Genos responded before he could stop himself.
"Good to see you kid," Saitama pulled you in for a hug of his own. You both were so enthralled by each other that you almost forgot he was standing there too.
"So, how have you guys been?" You asked as you walked with them out of the building. Genos, being the gentleman that he was, took your bags for you.
"Fine," Genos answered simply.
"Fine? Are you kidding? You've been the gloomiest dead-beat downer!" Saitama intercepted.
"Aww, why have you been so grumpy, Gen-gen?" You teased.
Despite you trying to mock him, he found the playful gesture soothing. But he still continued to play the cool headed hero. "I don't know what you're speaking of, Sensei."
"Whatever. So (y/n), how was America? Is it everything the news makes it out to be?"
You chuckled. "More or less. All I can say is that the people there are pretty abrasive."
You guys continued exchanging information as you guys rode a bus home. You used to room with Saitama before he became a hero and even after so it was no surprise that he let you retake your spot in the apartment.
You sighed contently as you walked into the small living room. "It feels so good to be home!"
"No place like home, huh?" Saitama smirked, tossing you a bottle of water from the fridge.
"Yeah...." You dejected, playing with the cap of the bottle. Your sudden change in made behavior sparked Genos's worry. "Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, yeah, totally," You nodded, not meeting his gaze.
He rested his hand on your shoulder and with the other tilted your chin to make you look at him. "You may have been gone a while but that doesn't mean I don't remember your habits. I know you're lying."
You glanced up at his golden irises then flickered your gaze to your feet. "I'm not....I'm....I'm just postponing some news. There's a difference."
"Oh? What's that?" Saitama questioned as he re-entered the living room.
You sighed exasperated. "I wanted to tell you guys later, but if Genos here is being so persistent than I have no choice."
"What's going on, (y/n)?" Genos said, getting anxious.
"Um, sit down for a minute. Both of you," You instructed as they took a seat on the floor cushions. "Um, well, how do I put this....I....I'm not going to be staying here long."
"You're moving out?" Saitama asked.
"Uh, not exactly...."
Genos felt his systems begin to overheat. The answer was right in front of him but he didn't wish to believe it until you said it.
"I'm going back to America, and this time I don't know for how long," You said sadly. "I probably should have told you this beforehand but you guys were so excited about having me back I didn't want to disrupt that joy...."
"When?" Genos found himself saying.
"In a week."
And that was the bullet to his core that he was waiting for.
"Whoa.....wow, what for?" Saitama inquired with surprise.
"I want to study more of what I want to major in," You replied. "But I don't know how long that's going to last." You suddenly yawned and touched your forehead. "Ugh, I'm really dizzy and jet lagged. Do you guys think I can take a nap and rest up?"
"Sure. Genos, why don't you set up a futon for (y/n) while I go out to buy some things. We gotta celebrate while she's here," He gave you a smile and curt wave before grabbing his keys and waltzing out the door.
As Genos was setting up the bed for you, you noticed how silent he had gotten. "Genos...."
"Yes?"
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing."
"Just like I can't lie to you, you can't lie to me. Tell me, what's wrong? What are you thinking?" You asked desperately.
"Nothing's wrong," He put on a smile that didn't meet his eyes. "The bed's ready for you."
You looked down at the heap of blankets then back at the cyborg. "Sleep with me."
Genos's eyes widened. "W-what?"
"Not like that!" You smacked his chest in embarrassment. "Don't you remember? When I used to have trouble sleeping you would always comfort until I finally passed out."
"Ohh."
You grabbed his arm and pulled him into the sheets with you. You kicked off your shoes as Genos hesitantly wrapped an arm around you. You sighed softly and snuggled into the cyborg's artificial warmth. The heat was so nice you almost fell asleep instantly, but you knew you still had to speak to this stubborn jerk.
You put a hand over the center of his chest and cuddled into him further. "Talk to me, Genos. Tell me what's on your mind."
"Aren't you supposed to be asleep?" Genos mused.
"I'll sleep when I've figured out what's going on in my best friend's head," You sassed.
"Hey.....did you meet anyone over there?"
"I mean, sure, I met people but most of them were assholes," You shrugged.
"What about the others?"
"The others were really sweet," You smiled in remembrance.
After a long pause, Genos came back with another question. "Do you want to go back?"
"It's going to help me in my career so yes," You responded, then sighed. "I just wish you could come too."
"Why do you have to go?"
"Genos, we've discussed this...." You tried to calm him down, but the cyborg was already sitting up with his back against the wall.
"I miss you, a lot," Genos admitted. He was allowing himself to be selfish. Around you, he couldn't help but feel like that. "I don't want you to go."
"I know but that's how life is. It's tough."
"What if you meet other people over there and don't want to come back?" He countered in a hyperventilated state.
You gave him a stern look. "Now, Genos—"
But then he gripped your arm. "I don't want to lose you."
"You won't. I'm stilling going to call and text—"
"That's not the same."
"Then what do you want me to do?" You raised your voice.
He pulled your arm, making you fall into his lap. You looked up at him in surprise but found his golden eyes resting on you with heartbreak. "Stay with me."
He then cupped your face and slowly pulled you in towards his. The fire burning in his eyes lit your skin as your eyelids began to flutter closed. Right when you felt his lips graze yours, he did the unthinkable.
He pulled away.
He groaned in frustration and let you go. You were stunned for a moment, unable to process what just happened.
"G-genos....?"
"I'm sorry," He said solemnly, not looking at you. "I shouldn't have done that. I can't cross that line."
"What, why?"
"Because," Genos ran hand through his hair. "You don't think of me like that. You only see me as your best friend."
"Genos."
"Yes?"
You abruptly climbed onto his lap and crashed your lips into his. He was so shocked by your actions that he gasp was muffled by your mouth.
After getting over his initial disbelief, Genos started getting into the kiss. Your finger gripped his soft blond locks as his hands rested on your hips. Your lips felt electric on his, he was surprised he didn't feel a current sparking between you two. His whole body ached with a fiery passion that could only be satisfied by the grace of your lips.
Once you two came up for air, you threw yourself back whilst tugging his shirt so that he ended up on top of you. "Who.....who said I didn't like you like that?" You asked breathlessly.
His eyes widened bashfully. Your hair formed like a halo around your glazed expression. "I-I just assumed—"
"Don't assume, just talk to me," You pouted. "Do you know how long I've been waiting for that kiss?"
He chuckled nervously. "I'm sorry."
You patted the empty space next to you which he took. "Genos, I know you're upset about me leaving but understand that I will always come back. I know that messaging isn't the same thing as seeing a person but for now that's what we have to endure."
Genos sighed heavily. "I know."
"After I finish school, after I'm done with this whole studying abroad thing, we'll be together," You said, turning over on your elbows.
"I can't ask you to be mine now?"
"I mean, no one's stopping you," You laughed.
He then motioned for you to come closer and unexpectedly gave you a long sensual kiss. "(y/n), will you go out with me?"
"Of course, you dummy," You giggled as you locked lips with him again.
Extended Ending:
When Saitama came back, he found you two snuggled up under the covers in a deep sleep.
"I hope those dorks just admit they like each other and get it over with soon," Saitama huffed in amusment.
