Warnings: violence, self deprecating thoughts. Like, seriously lots of violence, this chapter is... very sad, and Archer is a huge asshole.
Virgil felt horrible. Really, that was an understatement. There were no words that could possibly explain just how guilty he felt, how angry at himself he was. Why did he agree to do that to him? How could he have done something so horrible? He wished he hadn't ever become friends with Archer, even that he had never met Logan just so he could be happy. He would have been happier if Virgil had never been in his life.
Yet, not being able to see Logan ever hurt worse than it would to see him. Every day he would glance over to his lunch table, finding Patton sitting there alone. Logan's seat was always empty, and it hurt knowing the reason he was gone was because of him. He almost wished that he could have skipped school too, just so he wouldn't have to see his empty table but Virgil didn't deserve to feel sad over losing him.
It was his fault. If only he had ditched Archer sooner, had actually approached Logan on his own he could be happy. Except he hadn't done that, and these were the consequences. He didn't get to he upset, but he did deserve to be alone.
Except that he couldn't even do that. Roman wouldn't leave him alone-although really, he couldn't blame him when Virgil was the only thing close to a friend that he had left. Maybe, Virgil thought, the way he could make up for what he did, the way he could be a better person was by being there for Roman. Roman had done things just like Virgil did, but nothing like what he had. He had just listened to Archer, followed him all because of a silly crush.
Virgil could understand. People do stupid things when they liked someone. They did even dumber things when they wanted to be accepted. At least he hadn't lied and manipulated anyone. He wanted to be better, and Virgil didn't think he deserved a change to do better. He would help Roman, though, and he had to admit, it was nice to have at least one person he could go to.
Virgil sighed, keeping his head down as he made his way down the halls. He was late for his first class, the halls were empty and quiet, and he was tempted to just skip. He paused outside of one of the bathrooms, considering this. He panicked when he heard footsteps heading in his direction, trying to quickly hide in the bathroom. Unfortunately, he was already caught by whoever it was.
He hesitantly turned to face the person, heart seeming to stop when he saw who it was. In any other case it would have been a good thing that it wasn't an adult but another student. However, being caught alone with Archer, who he knew was still incredibly angry with him over leaving, was one of the worst things that could have happened to Virgil.
Archer seemed surprised to catch him out of class at first. Virgil was usually too worried over getting into trouble to skip, but his surprise soon changed. He looked almost happy to find him, and Virgil was terrified of whatever might be going on inside of his head. He took a step closer to Virgil who took a step back, hands shaking as his back hit a wall.
"I'm sure you're happy with yourself, now that you've gotten rid of me and convinced Roman to leave too." He started. Virgil was anything but happy lately, though he wasn't about to correct Archer. He knew what was most likely coming, and he wasn't about to make things even worse for himself. "You must be having the time of your life, now that I have nothing and no one. Well, I might not be able to convince Roman to leave you too, but I don't need to do that to hurt you."
Virgil flinched as Archer grabbed the collar of his shirt, pulling him closer and sneering at him. "I did nothing but help you. I was your friend when no one else wanted to be, for obvious reasons. You didn't deserve my friendship. I should have let you be alone the rest of your life, just like that worthless robot you fell in love with."
He knew he should have kept his mouth shut. He should have taken what was coming, stayed silent. Maybe it would have been a little better had he not said anything to anger him, and yet the words came out before he could stop himself. "What a great person you are, manipulating your 'friends' into doing work for you, then calling them worthless when they suddenly understand how shitty of a person you are. Really, staying friendless would have been much better than putting up with you."
Archer paused, no emotions showing on his face as he processed what had been said. Then he had that same look as he did every time he was angry. A startlingly calm look, one that didn't truly show how he felt but anyone who knew him knew what was going to happen next. Virgil helped as the grip on his shirt tightened, trying to pull away as Archer dragged him into the boys bathroom, out of sight from anyone who might pass by in the hallway.
If Roman hadn't happened to show up only a few minutes later things probably would have been even worse. All Virgil heard was Roman's shocked screaming, his head pounding more. Finally Archer had stopped, probably held back by Roman, but Virgil still hurt and he couldn't stand it. He couldn't keep his eyes open any longer, and suddenly it all went black.
I'm back from Florida (again) and should have a little more time, between my schoolwork anyways. So, hopefully more updates-this book is pretty close to being finished. I can't say exactly how much longer, cause there's still some shit that needs to happen, but it's close.
Hope you somehow enjoyed this chapter. I don't normally do the ring pop thing in this book but I feel like I should offer ring pops so you aren't too angry about what happened in this book, so- *a miniature destroyable robot brings you a ring pop so you can have a ring pop and take your anger out on the robot instead of me and also archer even if he deserves it*
Lmao, thanks for reading. Bye!-Bob
By the way yes, Archer will get what he deserves soon
