1. Not-So-Quiet Night in Gotham

Robin was bored. Why was everything so quiet? Even working alone, in Gotham, at night, wasn't producing much action. It was all he could do to try and find the occasional rookie mugger.

A night off from the team didn't mean much; he was just tired of waiting for his turn to play against Wally in Super Smash Bros. (That's how quiet everything was.) Usually, Gotham yielded excitements galore for a bored acrobat in cape, mask, and tights. Coming here, however, was quickly proving fruitless. Maybe he could get Wally over here and...

He was wandering the rooftops aimlessly and wondering what to do when he practically whooped his head off. The alarm on the bank not a block away from him had been triggered, and that meant SOMETHING was finally happening.

At the bank, the would-be robbers seemed pretty new at this sort of gig. When he showed up, they had already been there for thirty seconds and had barely gotten close to getting into the vault. When he revealed his presence there, they nearly jumped out of their skins, and it took a full second and a half (he counted) for them to react. Not only that, but when they did, they immediately lost all sense of order that they seemed to have been lacking in the first place.

Not thirty seconds later did he have them all laying around outside the vault door, unconscious.

"Well, that was whelming. Let's tell the GCPD that their breaktime is over." He went to radio them, and naturally, that's when things went haywire.

One of the thieves he had supposedly knocked out swung a fist at the back of Robin's head. At the last moment, he ducked under the blow, rolling forward in the same motion. "Oh, goody! Ten seconds less of boredom!" he exclaimed as he easily evaded the man's blows. Eventually, he realized that he should stop toying with the man. But that didn't mean he wouldn't have fun doing it.

He leaped up, pushing himself up and over the man. Using the robber's shoulders as a springboard and flipping over him, he intended to land with a flourish and sweep the man's legs out from under him. But as he started to descend from the handspring, he felt powerfully painful telepathic waves surge through his mind. He fell to the ground, moaning and clutching his head in his hands.

A fist came speeding at his face, and then he felt nothing.

xXx

Now, while he is unconscious. Go now.

Yes, Master.

A pause. How is his defense faring?

He has a strong mind, even when unconscious. I do not know if I am strong enough, Master.

It considered the other's words. Continue. And remember, we do not fully know his strength. If you fail, then it is no fault of your own.

The less experienced presence tensed in alarm. Already he is awakening!

Leave the Mark and withdraw. We'll see how long it will take for us to hear what he has to say about our enemies.

Robin awoke, somewhat surprised to be exactly where he had been knocked unconscious. He slowly sat up, gently nursing his swollen cheek. What had happened? Why would they just leave him--

Duh. The vault was wide open, and only a few bills remained to litter the ground.

He stood up, and almost fell over again. His head was splitting with agonizing pain. Ow ow ow-- ahh. As suddenly as it had started, it stopped.

Robin shook his head gently to clear it and set off to tell the team what had happened.

NOTE: It gets more lighthearted (if that's the right word) after this.

ALSO NOTE: I'm open to suggestions!

Not really a note, but special thanks to @Areuils for helping me get kickstarted with my first chapter of my first story ever.
