Part 5 - Dumped
Amy's transition into being a cheerleader was going perfectly. She quickly became one of the most popular girls on the team. I taught her every move I knew. I helped her choose what to wear, how to act... no one would dare make fun of her now. I even taught her my secret weapon... the lip trick. I don't know why, but it works flawlessly.
Amy didn't really have a spot on the team, so, in a way, she was kind of a co-co-captain. Looking back now, I remember just how angry Emma got. During practice, she would give Amy the evil eye. Amy started getting attention from all the boys, and girls.
But she also lost someone important to her. Aaron. It happened in the hallway, just after practice. Emma, Amy and I were all walking together, when we saw Aaron, leaning nervously against the wall.
"Hi, baby!" Amy said cheerfully. She leaned in for a kiss, but Aaron leaned away. She cocked her head to the side, confused. "What's wrong?"
Aaron took a deep breath, closing his eyes. When he opened them, he looked at Emma, who gave him a sympathetic nod. I caught sight of the nod, to which Emma looked back down at the ground.
Aaron looked Amy in the eye. "Amy, I... I don't know you anymore." He said. Amy stumbled back.
"What? What are you saying?" She asked.
"Look at you. I can't even recognize you. You're not Amy anymore. You're someone else." Aaron said. "Amy... I don't think I love you anymore."
"A-Aaron?" She placed her hands on his shoulders. "What's this about? Listen, we- we can talk this out, we can-"
Aaron, in a bold move that did not seem like his own, brushed her arms to the side. "Goodbye, Amy." And he left. Amy was so shocked, she couldn't even cry. She just spat out a mess of "Buh-I-What?"
I wrapped my arms around her from the back in a hug. She finally snapped out of her shock and broke down in tears, turning around to lean into my hug. "It'll be okay." I said. "He doesn't know what he's missing out on." I wiped a tear away from her intense turquoise-green eyes. She looked up at me with so much... something in her eyes. I still don't know. "Go get cleaned up, okay? Then we'll go and do something fun." I sent her off to get cleaned up, watching her glance behind her at me. As soon as she was gone, I turned to face Emma.
"What did you do?" I asked.
She looked shocked, placing her hands up in surrender. "I didn't do anything!"
"Then why was he staring at you the whole time?" I had my hands on my hips, leaning in at her.
"Okay! Okay! I just told him that Amy had changed a lot! I didn't tell him to break up with her!" She said. Though I didn't call her out on it, I didn't believe her. In fact, I still don't.
"Well, I think that you're letting your jealously get in your own way."
"What does that mean?"
"It means that if you don't shape up, I'm demoting you. And Amy is taking your place." I went off to catch up with Amy, but I could hear Emma scream behind me. I remember just how angry she sounded in that one scream. I couldn't help but feel nervous. Was I making the wrong decision?
Then my doubts hit me full force. Making sure I was out of view of Emma, I turned a corner and grabbed onto the wall, holding the cloth over my chest tightly. I took a series of deep breaths. This was what I was afraid of. I could control them pretty well, at least with my medication, but the meds make me sleepy, so I didn't take them today.
I had to keep it together. I couldn't let my anxiety disorder destroy me. I couldn't let it destroy my entire identity, and everything I've worked for.
