"We should rent out a room tonight, my hair is greasy as hell." Sirius ran his fingers through his ebony locks and Remus noticed it was the slightest bit greasy, just at the roots, but he knew that was enough for Sirius. It was around three hours after Remus' panic attack, and Sirius was doing his best to reassure him that it was okay without actually bringing it up again.
"Ok, but which one should we pick?" Remus stood up and followed Sirius to the car, sitting in the seat next to the driver's. Remus knew how to drive, but he would only ever drive himself to places, because he always feared that he would crash and end up injuring someone else too.
"Something very cheap but with decent bathrooms."
"£24, for a night, please." The man at reception droned, obviously bored. It was a small hotel, so Sirius hoped it would be cheap, and it was, for a hotel at least. Remus smacked down money before Sirius could.
"Here you go."
"Room 24."
Remus and Sirius climbed two flights of stairs before finding their room. Sirius struggled to force the old fashioned, brass key in to its hole, but when he managed and the door swung open, he was in for a surprise. The floor was stained and the wallpaper peeling and there was only one bed. Sirius started to strut towards the bathroom door, picking up a towel on the way.
"S-Siri," Remus started.
"Hmm?"
"There's only one bed." Remus lifted the arm that was by his side slightly to point at the bed.
"Oh, you can have it. I'll grab some blankets from the car af-"
"We'll share it!" Remus said too fast and too loudly, making Sirius look at him quizzically.
"I mean, it won't be the first time. Remember the thunderstorms back in Hogwarts? You clung to me like a dog with fleas!"
"Oh yeah, can you pass me my wonderful lavender scented, super nice shampoo that will hopefully rid me of fleas?"
Shaking his head and sighing, Remus tossed Sirius his shampoo, a small smile printed on to his face.
"Just warning you, I sleep with only my boxers, so try not to stare at my flawless body." Remus heard Sirius say from behind him. Sirius came out from the shower, steam wafting around him, and his bright green towel (the hotel had bad colours) was draped loosely around his waist, almost slipping down to his hips. Remus knew Sirius did it on purpose, but he turned around while Sirius dried himself and put on his boxers.
"Done."
Remus turned around and, of course, Sirius was shirtless. Remus avoided his torso as much as possible. Still, Sirius' hair was still soaking.
"Bloody hell, your hair is still sopping wet. Let me dry it." Not even waiting for an answer, Remus grabbed a towel and started thoroughly drying Sirius' hair.
"Wait, why can't I just let it air dry?" Sirius sat down on the edge of the bed making Remus get on behind him.
"Because, dear Padfoot, you'll get your pillow wet and we all know how much you hate that."
"Do cats think in meows?" Sirius turned over to look at Remus, who was reading a book with a clip on light. He heard what Sirius said and was about to make a retort before realising it was 3AM. Sirius was always a little... Messed in the head around that time.
"Sirius, go to sleep." Remus bit back a smile.
"I can't, and my phone's dead which means I can't exchange my dumb night thoughts with James." Sirius yawned. Maybe his mind wasn't in the right place, perhaps he was off his rocker, but was it possible that Remus looked more cuter, like a little fuzzy rabbit, it probably didn't mean anything. Well, he couldn't let it mean anything. He found James hot, but that didn't mean he liked him. So sorted, right? It's not like even a day ago Sirius was crushing super hard, was it? Nooooo, what are you talking about?
"You're wallowing it self pity just because you can't be stupid in front of your best mate? Fucking hell, Sirius."
"Fucking hell would hurt and burn. And I only fuck blokes, hell could be a girl!" Sirius said in a way far too like his name that it made Remus snort aloud.
"Not literally!" Remus laughed. He removed his clip on light, turned it off and put his book on the table. The two were plunged in to complete darkness.
"You're one of my best mates too. You've made me breakfast for how long? And your syrupy pancakes, holy shit, it's heaven." Sirius loved Remus' cooking, especially the ones that were his recipe. Whether it be his roast near Christmas or his cod and chips, Sirius would always have his mouth watering.
"Mum's recipe. She would always make it for me after..." Remus cut his sentence short.
"After something bad happened?" Remus nodded, his throat too tight to speak.
" 'S okay. I'll make sure nothing bad happens to you ever again." Sirius wrapped both his arms around Remus' waist and pressed his cheek against his chest. Remus nearly started crying because of Sirius' tone, he sounded so sure, like he knew all of it won't come back. Sirius could see, just through his eyelashes, Remus' hand, palm down, start shaking on his pillow. He watched for a few seconds before laying his own hand on top of his and patting it.
"Sirius..." Remus whispered, his voice weak.
"Yeah?" Sirius replied, just as quietly,
"You're a good person."
Sirius didn't exactly know what to reply to this, because really, was he a good person? Does a good person get burned off the family tree? He didn't think so.
"I... Really don't think so." Sirius chuckled nervously at the end. Remus lifted Sirius' chin up.
"You are. I know I'm wrong about a lot of things, but you can trust me on this one. You're really bloody fine. I swear."
