"I know, let's go to Devon!" Sirius suggested after looking at places to go on a road trip in Britain, "It's got like sheep and all, so it'll be like Wales except their language won't be like a baby just slapped a keyboard!" Remus' eyes lit up when he heard about the sheep. He came from Wales and even learnt how to speak the language, but would always during some time in the summer go to James' house in London and stay their for the remainders of the holiday. Sirius moved in to the Potters' mansion around the time he turned sixteen and was fed up with his bitchy family, but he was afraid his mother and father would find him and hurt James and his family along with him. But soon, he quickly started to fit in with the Potters and when he turned 18, he rented out an apartment and finally, when he turned nineteen, he rented a house with a five minute walk to Big Ben out with Remus.
"I find that rather offensive actually, Welsh is a beautiful language." Remus insisted. Memories of he and his father walking along grassy fields broke through the wall in his brain, each one leading to a completely opposite frame: his mother bleeding profusely from her temple and Remus having to call the police when he was ten; his father throwing an empty beer bottle at his head when he was six; the first time he put a blade to his skin when he was eleven.
"Seriously though, what does 'ti'n goc oen' mean?" Sirius asked, shaking his head furiously as he reversed back on to the road. What he just said made Remus snort, whoever called Sirius that was a legend!
"Who called you that?!" Remus spluttered from laughing too hard.
"What's so funny?" Sirius asked seriously, "It was this lad from Hogwarts, I remember him saying he was Welsh."
"It means 'you're a lamb's dick'!" The look on Sirius' face was priceless! It was somewhere between an 'I just ate a sour lemon' look and an 'I'm going to kill someone' look.
"Knew it was all about the fucking sheep." Sirius grumbled.
Sirius turned up the music louder than expected and started singing along... or perhaps warbling along.
"I FOUND PEACE IN YOUR VIOLENCE, CAN'T SHOW ME THERE'S NO POINT IN TRYIN'.....!" He yelled at the top of his lungs. Remus just looked up from his original copy of Henry Fawner and the Half-Blood Prince. He couldn't help a small grin from appearing on his face: he knew Sirius was still recovering but just seeing him so- so happy, made Remus feel like maybe there was nothing to worry about, maybe the world was so imperfectly perfect that every bad thing doesn't have to exist at all.
"I sing like a fucking kween!" Sirius took one hand off the wheel and tossed his wavy black locks back.
"Jesus, don't kill us now, we could've died!" Remus said hurriedly, forcing Sirius' hand back on the wheel.
"Jesus will kill me soon anyway because I'm gay as fuuuck." Sirius must've thought he had already come out as he said it so calmly and didn't even look at Remus for a reaction, his eyes were just on the straight road.
"Sirius."
"What?"
"That's the first time you've come out to me." Sirius quickly turned his head for a fraction of a second then looked ahead, swallowing deeply.
"I'm happy though, I don't mind at all! No, I swear, just, does James know?" Remus rambled quickly in fear of making Sirius' uncomfortable. The truth is, Remus was questioning. He didn't really think he was straight at all anymore. It was when he was in that coffee shop with Sirius and he started talking about his date with that girl, he realised that even with every other girl he'd been on a date with- still including that date James set up with a girl that other boys drool over- he'd never felt anything. He should've known ages ago that he wasn't like the James, or Peter because they are always chatting about girls ("Emmeline looked at me!" Peter cried once from his four poster when he was seventeen).
"I thought I told you when I told James." Sirius started laughing slightly, "Lord, you know whenever I said I was going out with no specification of where I was going, I was going to a gay bar!"
"Yeah, but you always came home like, what, three hours later? I mean, I would assume if you were hooking up with someone, you would stay the night or at least come home at four in the morning." Remus was utterly confused at this point. Sirius was that type of person you knew loved sex so you thought they'd snatch the chance if it was available.
"Never found the right person. I mean, I kissed a lot and I mean a lot," Remus felt something. It wasn't sadness or disappointment. It definitely wasn't jealousy, but it was that one that made you bite the insides of your cheeks and look down quite a few times, "but I never became fond of them. They just didn't feel right." Sirius finished, trying his hardest not to look at Remus. Just visible in the corner of his view, he could see the little flash of amber that was Remus' eyes, they were soft and so resembled honey.
"By the way, Prongs is pretty pissed that you didn't tell him where we were going."
"I thought you were going to tell him." Sirius says with a smirk trying to fight its way on to his lips.
"Right, sorry." Remus gives in quite quickly.
"You're strange, Lupin. I like it." Remus feels his heart swell with happiness. The day Sirius met Remus when they were just tots of eleven, that was the first thing he said to the tall, nerdish 'un. Remus never had friends before that. In his primary school, he was always too shy and took to his books more than anyone. He could not play footie with the other boys in his class because he'd always felt that he would make a fool of himself. He couldn't play with the girls either because they... they just weren't his type. Now it was many years later, he'd thought about it many times and nearly always it would always lead back to one sentence his dad told him when he was five: 'Keep your mouth shut, you coward.' But he knew it was his own fault, everything was his fault.
"Surprised you remember that too." Remus started tapping on the back of his book. The dull thuds reminded him of the thick, hairy fist of a drunken man banging on a table. He didn't think it was his dad, his dad's hands had a gold ring on it and the other has a birthmark on the back. It was on the same table that they had in his childhood house, so it probably should have been someone he knew.
But who?
