6- But Why?

WILL POV-

In the car, the atmosphere remained hostile. Will didn't know what to do in this situation and was too afraid to say anything that might trigger Mike; he honestly knew he sounded like a broken record, repeating his one objective over and over again. But it was the only thing stopping him from crying; he couldn't let his emotions overwhelm him.

He kept his eyes on the passing scenery out the window; seeing just thick bushels of trees, trying to distract himself from the tense atmosphere.

Mike on the other hand seemed lost in thought, his grip on the steering wheel tight; his tough demeanour radiating from him, making the brunette only more anxious. Will didn't know what the ravenette was capable of, heeding Max and Lucas's warning; decided to play the part of the obeying victim... should be easy... right?

In midst of the silence, the brunette's mind raced with thoughts and questions. How did he end up in this situation? Why did he have to be kidnapped? And what was Mike planning on doing to him? The uncertainty was unbearable but knew what he needed to do as they survived.

The brunette couldn't help mumble to himself about the uncomfortable handcuffs digging into his wrists. The metal restraints felt tight and restrictive, serving as a constant reminder of his predicament; he couldn't even shuffle in his seat without being pulled away by the cuffs; hearing its metal chains cling in the air. But the moment he allowed a frustrated sigh to escape his lips, Mike's cold voice cut through the air.

"Stop whining!" the tall boy ordered, clearly annoyed, "You brought this on yourself, and I will duct tape you if needed."

Wait? He could have just been duct taped the whole time? Will pondered to himself; his brain racking with the spiralling thoughts: if Mike had duct-tape with him, this whole time, why wouldn't he use it to bound the small boy and silence him? It didn't make sense; logically if you were to kidnap someone, wouldn't you make sure your victim would be unable to leave by any means...

The brunette stared at the ravenette, confusion on his face taking in Mike's features; his raven hair, his prominent nose, his freckles and... his lips. Shit! Will looked away, was he staring for too long? Did Mike notice? Would the tall boy kill him for staring? Looking out the window shutting his eyes tights trying to remove the bright blush from his cheeks; he couldn't help but feel intrigued by Mike's face. Even if he was a downright dick, why did he have to be so fucking attractive?

However, Mike had been noticing for a small while, not willing to let it go uncalled for, "You keep staring at me!" he remarked, annoyed, "What's with that?"

The brunette's eyes panicked open slowly shuffling uncomfortably in his seat to face Mike, trying to come up with a plausible excuse, "I-I wasn't staring," He mumbled, hoping the ravenette would drop the subject all together.

But the tall boy's piercing gaze didn't waver, "Yes! Yes, you were," He said, tightening his grip on the steering wheel, "If you have something to say, spit it out!"

"I-I don't know!" Will mumbled, embarrassed as the blush rose to his cheeks, heating his face, knowing that Mike might find out the truth, "You- umm... I was just making sure you weren't angry with me." he lied; well, the best he could given the circumstances,

For a moment the ravenette seemed taken aback by the answer, he furrowed his brows, "Well, that's weird!" he muttered, "But whatever, just cut it out!"

Will nodded quickly, avoiding eye contact in fear of being questioned again; every time Mike talked, it felt like a whole-ass interrogation; it really made his heart rate go all the way up; perhaps, if he ever gets free, he should go to the doctor and check for heart problems after this, cause his heart kept pounding in fear.

But in the uneasy silence that enveloped the car, he casted his mind back to the mechanics; all the questions Max and Lucas asked him flooded back to his brain; remembering he couldn't answer any of them, only stressing him even more. At least if he was able to know what was going on, he would be able to prepare. He felt kept in the dark about the whole situation,

Nervously turning, he wanted to ask Mike all the questions he realised he never asked before, but would it be worth it? Would the ravenette even answer or would he just get aggressive and angry?

But before he could open his mouth, Mike scowled, "You're doing it again!" he huffed, not bothering to look at Will.

"Sorry!" The small boy gulped the lump in his throat not looking away, "Um Mike?" he began cautious, "What... what do you plan on doing with me?"

The ravenette kept his eyes forward, he didn't mind talking to the brunette, but his expression remained unreadable, "I told you already," He replied, his voice tinged with irritation softly rolling his eyes, "You're just gonna stay with me for a while,"

"But why?" Will persisted, trying to keep his tone and fear in check, "Why me?"

Mike shrugged nonchalantly, the situation not affecting him, "Wrong place at the wrong time I guess," He said dismissively, "And now, you're my ticket to staying under the radar for a bit longer."

The small boy's heart sank at the callous response, but he knew he couldn't go too far without really pushing Mike's buttons, "And... where are we going?" he asked, hoping to gain some insight onto their destination.

The ravenette curled his lips into a slight smirk, "Does it really matter?" he retorted, "You're just along for the ride, remember? Now quit asking so many damn questions!"

Will fell silent for a moment, the situation weighing heavy on his shoulders. He couldn't believe the dangerous predicament, and now had more questions than he did before; what did Mike mean by all of that?

"Are you going to kill me?" the small boy questioned, the fear lacing his thoughts.

"Not if you don't get on my nerves!" Mike replied, swiftly with no emotions.

"But why? Wouldn't it be easier to kill me?" the brunette frowned; his voice wavering.

"With that mouth maybe I should kill you... I don't know; its complicated." he muttered the last part,  seemingly struggling with something. "I have my reasons, alright? Just... don't ask too many questions."

But curiosity got the best of the small boy, unable to contain himself, hoping he could reach the soft spot of the ravenette, "So am I just going to stay with you forever?" his voice defeated.

Mike's jaw clenched, his expression hardening in an instant, glaring at Will, his frustration and anger from the mechanics returning, "I said stop talking!" he snapped, his tone harsher this time, cutting through the air like a knife, "You're lucky I didn't lock you in the trunk, so just shut up!"

With a mix of fear and gratitude, Will cautiously spoke up, his voice trembling slightly, "I'm sorry... I didn't mean to talk back," Fiddling his fingers, "I'll stay quiet, I promise."

The tall boy glanced at him, his eyes narrowing in suspicion; not responding immediately; almost as though he was soaking in the words. After a tense moment of silence, the ravenette grumbled, "You better keep you promise, or I'll make sure you won't be able to speak again." his voice unnerving, the threat sending shivers down Will's spine.

The small boy nodded quickly, not wanting to push his luck further, "Thank you for not putting me in the trunk..." He whispered, genuinely grateful for that small amount of mercy. It was a chilling thought, and he was relieved Mike didn't do that to him...

The ravenette's eyebrow flinched, "Don't mistake this for kindness... I just didn't wanna deal with your complaining." he retorted, seeming almost annoyed.

"I-I know..." the brunette remained tense, a knot of anxiety forming in his stomach. He knew he had to tread lightly to avoid provoking Mike further. "I just... I get scared in closed spaces," The small boy admitted hesitantly; he didn't know why he was sharing his vulnerabilities with Mike, perhaps it was hope that this might humanise him in the ravenette's eyes or perhaps it was just stuff he wanted to get of his chest if he did eventually get killed, "When I was a kid... my dad used to lock me in the trunk of his car when I misbehaved..."

For a moment Will swore he could see through Mike's tough exterior, a glimmer of understanding in his eyes, but quickly it shifted; his unreadable expression returning, "Don't think you'll get any sympathy from me." he mumbled, keeping his eyes on the road.

The brunette looked away, swallowing the rising anxiety; was there no way to deal with Mike? No way to appeal to his emotions? Perhaps he was merely dealing with a criminal who was keeping him as some sort of lap dog...

Would he be kidnapped forever?
