38- Strawberry Cheesecake

MIKE POV-

Stepping into Scoops Ahoy, the cheerful chime of the bell rung in the air to greet them, along with the delightful smell of waffle hitting their noses; the small boy was excited, he didn't usually get to eat ice-cream or have dessert, this was a first in a long time from a place that specialised in ice creams.

Mike led the way, his hands still entwined with Will's, "So what's your preference?" the tall boy asked with a friendly grin as they approached a booth, both taking seat on either side removing their hands from one another. The weather was warm, and Mike worried his hand was sweaty, wiping it against the leg of his pants.

The small boy scanned the colourful array of pictures; reading the menu before him; waffles, brownies, cakes, cheesecakes, milkshakes, teas. The selection overwhelmed him, but finally deciding to go classic, choosing a simple scoop of ice-cream. "I think I'll go for this one!" he pointed at the 'strawberry cheesecake ice-cream', "Can I have it in a tub please? Cones get so messy," he asked politely.

Mike slightly blushed at the brunette's voice, sensing a touch of innocence within "You sure? You can literally get whatever you want, I'm paying!"

"I'm sure!" The brunette nodded,

"If you say so," Mike said, reaching over the table and ruffling his hair before standing up, "One strawberry cheesecake ice-cream in a tub." he repeated as Will gave a thumbs up in return

Mike waited in line, looking back at the brunette with a soft smile before turning away but willing to admire the brunette for minutes on end if allowed to. But he cleared his throat turning back as his eyes noticed a familiar figure with wavey dark hair- Eddie Munson... again. Mike furrowed his brows; why was Eddie here? And at this time? Wasn't he supposed to go on some date with his boyfriend; although that was yesterday, so the date must have already occurred.

The ravenette approached, he knew that sleeveless jean jacket from anywhere. Lightly, he tapped his shoulder, calling out, "Eddie?" his lips curling into a smile; he always liked Eddie, in high school, the longhaired boy was his role model.

"Shit!" he gasped, startled by the sudden touch as he turned around, swirling himself in place, "Mike? Why must you follow me?" he joked, a playful distain.

"So high and mighty, who would want to follow you?" Mike rolled his eyes playfully.

"My Stevey!" Eddie cooed, knowing how much Mike hated cringy moments and nicknames.

"Never say that again!" the tall boy recoiled, producing a fake gagging noise.

"Stevey, Stevey, Stevey!" he repeated in a cooing tone.

The ravenette scrunched his face, changing the subject, "Why are you here anyway... at 6 AM?"

Eddie's grin widened, his eyes dancing in the lights, "I'm meeting my boyfriend!"

"I thought you were doing that yesterday?" Mike furrowed his brows

"We had to reschedule." Eddie pouted, "He's here right now actually!"

"Wait? Steve's here right now?" The ravenette raised his eyebrows.

The long-haired boy nodded bashfully, holding a content smile, "Yeah, he's amazing."

Mike's eyes immediately roamed the shop, trying to guess who Eddie's boyfriend might be amongst the customers. Scanning their faces, Mike noticed there were many people here despite being too early in the morning; probably due to the heat.

The ravenette playfully tried to guess, pondering, "Alright... is he that one with the blonde hair?" Mike pointed

Eddie laughed, "Nope, not him!"

Mike scratched his head, continuing to guess, "Okay, how about that guy with the blue bucket hat?"

The long-haired boy shook his head, "Wrong again!"

The ravenette sighed dramatically, "I'm terrible at this and I am running out of men to put you with; the only ones left are those two old guys."

Eddie burst with laughter, "You're shit at this game!"

Mike pouted, realising he was striking out with his guesses, "I give up, who's your boyfriend?" he asked, crossing his arms; annoyed from being a sore loser.

Eddie didn't say anything, merely pointing behind the counter, following his gaze to a boy stationed there, scooping ice-cream with a casual smile and a luscious head of hair covered by a hat. It was then, and only then that Mike recognised the uniform- a sailor outfit.

"Oh, him?" The ravenette's eyes widened in surprise; the boy was indeed handsome, but he couldn't help but laugh at the ridiculous costume.

The long-haired boy ran a hand through his hair, clearly amused by the reaction, "Yep, that's him. He's really making that outfit work for him."

The ravenette looked between Eddie and Steve again, furrowing his brows, "I feel like your obligated to think whatever he wears looks good on him."

"No! I really like that uniform; it's good for roleplay!" Eddie argued.

"Roleplay? Like in d&d?" Mike furrowed his brows

"Not exactly, more like in the bedroom, if you get what I mean." Eddie winked.

"Oh... OH! EW!" the tall boy realised what type of 'roleplay' they were talking about, "That's gross." he stated.

Suddenly the pair reached the front of the line, Steve's eyes widened upon seeing his boyfriend, not expecting to see him here, "Babe? What are you doing here? I thought you had some special spy mission." he chuckled with his usual charm and wit.

"I felt bad for cancelling yesterday, so I thought I'd drive here and see you here." The long-haired boy twirled his hair, "I also made breakfast for you, it's in the car."

"Well, I'm just glad you're here." the funky boy smiled warmly, genuinely shocked by the surprise. "Are you actually gonna buy anything though? People will get pissed if I don't serve them." he whispered quiet enough for only his boyfriend to hear,

Eddie shook his head, "This is Mike by the way; the paladin of my party." placing a hand on the ravenette's shoulder slightly shaking him around,

"Oh, so you're paladin Mike?" Steve nodded, trying to piece his limited knowledge of d&d together as he passed Mike a friendly smile, "Well, welcome to Scoops Ahoy Mike. What can I get for you?"

The ravenette cut out his thoughts as he focused on repeating his order, "Um, can I have a scoop of chocolate fudge brownie ice cream and another scoop of strawberry cheesecake ice cream, please."

"Is that together or separate?" Steve questioned.

"Separate, oh and can I have them both in tubs please!" Mike requested.

Steve's smile grew wider as he went to retrieve his scooper, scooping the requested flavours into the tubs, "You got it dude. One scoop of chocolate fudge brownie and another of strawberry cheesecake."

As the funky boy prepared the ice creams, Eddie leaned on the counter next to him, a mischievous glint in his eyes, "Hey Steve, did anyone ever tell you that you're looking fire in that sailor outfit?"

"Yes babe, you tell me that every day." Steve nonchalantly grinned, not letting the comment cause him to lose focus.

"Well I'd let you deal with my sea-men." The longhaired boy winked as Steve flushed a bright hue; he was not expecting that. He thought he would be used to his boyfriend's constant flirting but obviously he was caught off-guard.

Steve fumbled with the ice-cream scooper for a moment, "Come on, you're gonna make me drop the scoop."

"Oh I wouldn't mind if you dropped something Steve." Eddie's grin widened; his voice suggestive yet playful.

The funky boy's jaw practically dropped at the comment, his cheeks now noticeably crimson. He cleared his throat trying to regain composure, "Only one person is lucky enough to see what's under my sailor outfit,"

"And that lucky person is me." the long-haired boy mocked,

Just as the flirtatious banter between Eddie and Steve was reaching its peak, Mike noticed a girl, almost as tall as Steve approach the counter with a teasing grin on her face, "Alright lovebirds, let's keep the PDA to a minimum. We don't want you scaring the ice-creams."

The funky boy's embarrassment was now evident as the tub slipped from his hand, "Oh shit sorry Mike!" he claimed turning to face the ravenette who's scoop dropped to the floor.

The girl rolled her eyes, knowing she was the one on clean-up duty. "See? You scared the ice cream." she chuckled

"You were the one who scared him Robin, we were just trying to spread love and cheer." Eddie explained.

The girl, whose name was Robin, placed a hand on her hip, "Love and cheer, huh? Well, I'm just making sure you don't spread the love and cheer all over the counter."

Eddie chuckled and Steve joined in, trying to shake off his blush as he grinned like a schoolboy, deciding to take advantage of the situation, "Speaking of ice-cream... Robin, my bestest friend, could you grab the case of chocolate from the back? We're running critically low."

The blue-eyed girl was not swayed by the compliment as she crossed her arms with a playful grin, "Oh, am I your errand boy now? Sorry Steve my hands are full!"

The funky boy let out an exaggerated sigh, "Come on, Robin, you know how heavy those cases are! Pretty please?"

The blue-eyed girl shook her head, but there was amusement in her expression, "Nice try Harrington, but I've got tables to clean!"

With a dramatic sigh, Steve pushed himself off the counter, "Fine I'll do it myself." he pouted before turning to his boyfriend, "Be right back."

As Steve headed toward the storage room with his mammoth task and Robin disappeared to clean some more tables, Mike seized the opportunity, leaning closer slightly to Eddie, "Can I ask you something?"
