Chapter 1

(The music brought up in this chapter is a modern song, I just really like the song and think it has a nice setting)

3rd Person POV

Mickey Jone sat alone in her hotel room, listening to the soft hum of    the radiator and beat of the song coming from the radio.

If you asked her ten years ago what she would be doing now, six year old Mickey probably wouldn't have said that she would be in Portland, sharing a hotel room with two guys she didn't even know half a year before, but you never know, six year old Mickey was weird.

She was happy, that at least was obvious , she's achieved an amazing group of friends, even though that meant she had lost one, and almost lost like every other one as well.

She had enjoyed Portland so far, but then again she had spent most of the cooped up in the hotel room while the others were out looking for the people who attacked her dad , it didn't bother Mickey though, it let her get more sleep and to enjoy the quiet before the others returned, which ofter resulted in laughter and binge watching rented horror films which Mickey convinced Billy to rent or that her mum rented her.

This started to become a type of therapy of the teens, it allowed them to get to know each other, including Mickey's love for slasher horror flicks and jump scares among other things.

Mickey had enjoyed staying with them, to going to breakfast as a group or exploring the town they were currently staying in, but it wasn't all good, her dad was being hospitalised after being found almost dead by the river, her and her mum had started arguing, and she couldn't sleep properly, she felt sick and depressed, but she hid all of that from her friends, she couldn't stand lying to them but she had to, she didn't want to trouble them more than she already did, and she didn't want them to baby her more than everyone already did, it was annoying to say the least, but she couldn't blame them for being worried about her, but sometimes she wished they didn't worry, so she could leave and their lives would be normal again.

But their lives would never go back to normal, because they never were normal, their lives were the most fucked up things imagined, but no one knew that side of it, if you looked at them from outside the glass walls they put around each other, they would look normal, they would look happy, they would look brave.

but inside those walls you would see what actually happened, the weak, terrified and protective teenagers, each trying to make a difference, even if it just was for one day, even if they could only be unknown faces behind fake names and costumes, even if they could only be heroes to themselves, but sometimes that was enough, sometimes that was the freedom and difference they all silently longed for, that they all wished for.

The song on the radio changed to one bit much different from the other, but this one had a name, or a name that was announced, it was called ' Fools' by Lauren Aquilina, Mickey had heard it before, at work, on a quite Monday when there wasn't many people, she thought the song was nice, and the singers voice was elegant and soft, she had always enjoyed music, it had been a helpful way to escape from reality, and it was good background sound for when she was troubled with writing, or feeling lonely, but then again she wasn't alone often, she was at school or work most of the time, and when  she was home her dad was often there, and when he wasn't she still had people, she had her friends and a good relationship with most of her neighbours, most of which were elders that she would often talk to, or families that were like hers, she knew what it was like to live though what she did, so she helped the families by taking the children out when she could, to get them out the house when the parents couldn't, she had the people that were around her, so she was never truly alone.

Mickey was thrown out of her train of thought by the hotel room creaking open, the others walking in seconds later.

"Hey, did you find them?" Mickey asked, looking up from her note book that she had been aimlessly doodling in.

"No, not even close, but we did have an idea" Billy said, sitting down on the chair by the small TV stand, throwing a bag of warm food at Mickey despite Tibby's flustered yell to not attack the girl who has a knife with fast food.

"What's your idea?" Mickey asked in return.

(A/N: going to bring in other shows and fandoms into this, just because I can)

"Remember the incident that happened about six years agoI think it was, with the girl with superpowers and the monsters " Lexi asked, walking towards the bed and sitting next to Mickey .

"Yeah, in Hawkins, what's this meant to do with us" Mickey asked, turning to look at the two boys.

"What if they were like us, I mean we've faced our fare share of monsters  and creatures, it wouldn't be unlikely " Billy said.

"So this has been happening for years then, at most 6 probably a lot more" Tibby said.

"And in Multiple places, what if it isn't just in America, it could be anywhere and we aren't doing anything about it" Mickey said, trying to think of any other news that could be related to what's happening to them.

"Then there's others like us, how are helping in any way they can, maybe a little different from us but still doing the same job" Billy said.

"So if there's more like us then there's like a 85% chance we're the only universe left" Tibby joked, Earning a glare from Billy.

"Is he wrong though, I mean I'm surprised our universe it's destroyed yet" Mike said from where he stood at the wall.

That's when something clicked in Mickey's mind, a newspaper report that came out a few weeks ago saying that some winged creature was spotted by a road around 12am, the report said it was just a large bird but what if it wasn't.

(A/N: Causally going to throw in a OC, hope you like her)

"What if some other incidents are attached to ours" Mickey asked.

"What's that meant to mean?" Lexi asked.

"Remember the newspaper article I brought up a few days ago, with the bird " Mickey said, rubbing at her chapped nail polish.

"Yeah, but they said it was just a misunderstanding " Mike said.

" because they don't know what we do, what if it wasn't a bird but one of us" Lexi leaned forward with a smirk.

"So we should go check it out?" Mickey said.

"How are we not dead yet with you as our leader?" Mike asked sarcastically, resulting in a joke glare from Mickey.

"We have no idea" Billy responded, earning an actual glare from Mickey.

"But seriously, we need to check it out" Lexi said, standing up and reaching her hand out to help Mickey up as well, with this movement Mickey stood, how? No one knows, maybe because it convenient and the author is lazy, you never know.

The other 2 stood as the girls started walking out the hotel room, quickening to keep up.

"What's my life turned to?" Mike asked himself as he pushed off the wall to catch up with the others.

Guess who hasn't updated any of their books in weeks, this guy.

But seriously I'm sorry I haven't been very active, I will be posting more on this book.

I've been busy making my paper books that I hope to get out soon.

Road Home will be split up into to separate places, one with the group in Portland that were the base of this chapter and the other back in Kollok with Skye and Marcus, is this going to make it complicated? yes, do I care? fuck no.

Thanks for reading, I will update soon.
