6. The New Guy

Namjoon was thankful that the RV had landed in a secluded area of France where only cows and other critters were witness to what looked like three aliens leaving a space craft. They were also the only witness to Namjoon hurling up the food he had eaten in the last several days over the wooden fence he threw himself against. Hobi walked over to Namjoon with a paper towel he had found in the RV, gently placing a hand on his back as he rubbed it and tried to sooth him. Suga just stood at the exit to the RV, leaning against it with a smirk as he kept his arms across his chest.

When Namjoon was finished getting sick, he stood up straight and tried to take stock of their surroundings. It was a night unlike any that he was used to. When he'd stand at his bedroom window sometimes at night, he was able to see a lit skyline. Now the night around him was only lit by the RV and a few stars that seemed to blink in and out of existence. He looked back over at Suga as he hopped down out of the doorway, taking a look around at the night himself. His observation was interrupted by a fly that seemed to find a fascination with him as he swatted at it again and again. Namjoon couldn't help but to get a smirk on his face.

"So did we arrive?" asked Hobi. "It's hard to tell since there really isn't much around."

Namjoon dug his phone out of his pocket, looking at the lack of signal in the upper corner.

"Well, there isn't any sort of signal on my phone, though that doesn't mean anything. I believe we are though. There aren't any lights around here."

He tucked his phone away as he looked at the RV. They would have to hide it so it wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb.

"We need to move the RV," said Namjoon. "We can't leave it lying around."

Suga - who was still at war with the fly and looking as if he was now doing some sort of karate moves against it - looked over at him and nodded. Suga hit at the fly once more before moving to re-enter the RV. Namjoon and Hobi walked away from the fence and were soon to follow him inside. Namjoon dapped at his lips with the paper towel before chucking it in the trash bin, turning to see that Suga was trying again and again to turn the key to start the RV with no luck.

"Maybe we can push it," suggested Namjoon.

Even though he didn't know if they could do such a feat considering how stuck it was in the ruts, it seemed the only option they had yet. Thankfully there was a tree line that wasn't too far from them. Namjoon, Hobi, and Suga all got behind the RV, shoving it what felt like one painstakingly slow inch at a time towards the tree line. They had just managed to get it hidden out of sight when a horse drawn carriage pulled up short behind them.

The three of them turned around to look at the young man in tattered clothes that sat atop the wagon holding the reins. He quirked a brow at them, and it was only then that Namjoon realized how odd they must look since none of them had changed their outfits.

"Are you three alright?" the man asked.

"We're fine," said Namjoon. "We are just making our way to the nearest city or village."

"Well, both are far away unfortunately. You're out in farm territory if you couldn't tell," he said with a grin that flickered on and then off his face. "Why don't you hop in the wagon? You can stay at my place for the night."

"That would be very kind of you," said Namjoon as he moved forward to hop up on the bench seat beside the man. Hobi jumped in the back of the wagon amongst the straw while Suga just continued to stand there with his arms crossed.

"Come on," said Namjoon as Suga looked at him.

"I don't want to," said Suga.

Namjoon flushed. They hadn't even been in the past that long and Suga was already complicating things. Muttering a brief apology, Namjoon slipped off the wagon and went over to Suga.

"What are you doing? Get in the wagon!" he hissed at him.

"I don't trust him," mumbled Suga as he looked at the man sitting on the bench of the wagon, waiting for the two of them. "Besides, we shouldn't leave the RV unattended. Something could happen to it."

"Nothing will happen to it. We're out in the middle of nowhere," said Namjoon. "If we don't go with him, we might not be able to find who my grandfather wants us to find in this time."

Suga pursed his lips together as if still debating it, leaving Namjoon to sigh as he grabbed the wrist of the black track suit jacket Suga was wearing to drag him towards the wagon like some sort of disobedient child.

"Stop it!" grumbled Suga as he tried to pull away from Namjoon as he dragged him up onto the bench, making him sit so he was sandwiched between him and the stranger that offered them a place to stay.

The man looked at him warily for a moment, arching one of his black brows before facing forward and gripping the horse's reins tightly with his black gloved hands.

"Is your friend okay?" asked the man as he snapped the reins, causing them to lurch forward and start their journey towards their destination.

"Yes, he's fine," said Namjoon. "He just isn't a people person."

That response from Namjoon's lips earned him a smack on the shoulder from Suga.

"OW!" shouted Namjoon as a smirk crossed Suga's lips.

Hobi - who was perfectly content in the straw in the back of the wagon - watched Suga slap Namjoon. Hobi - in retaliation - leaned forward to hit Suga in the back of the head which cause Suga to whip around and face him. The man laughed at the theatrics of his three new companions.

"I thought your outfits were interesting enough, but I see that your personalities are even more so," said the man. "What are your names?"

"I'm Namjoon," he said as he looked over at the man. "This grouchy one beside me - "

Namjoon paused in his introductions to grab Suga's hand as it came up again to attempt to smack him, pulling it back down and holding it there.

"- is Suga," Namjoon continued. "The one in back is Hobi."

"I like those names," he said as they bounced along. "My name is Guy."

"Nice to meet you, Guy," said Namjoon, hearing Suga mutter under his breath, 'What kind of name is Guy?'

They all fell silent as they were jostled about the pot-holed dirt road for a few more minutes. As Guy directed the wagon around the corner, a small wooden structure came into view. It was a modest two-story place; the front yard filled with overgrown grass and a few flowers here and there. A barn that looked to be the same size as the house stood next door. Guy moved his horses over to it, soon pulling up short.

"This is my humble abode," said Guy as he hopped down off the wagon bench. "I'm honored to have such interesting guests for the evening. It has been a while since that has last happened."

He moved to begin untying the horses from the rigging, Suga watching him the whole time. Namjoon saw the narrowed gaze Suga was giving Guy and sighed. Apparently Suga wasn't about to let up about his suspicions anytime soon.

"Do you need some help putting the horses in their stalls?" asked Namjoon as he saw Guy lead one of the horses towards his barn.

"No, I will be okay," said Guy. "You three should go into my house and make yourselves comfortable. I will be right along."

Namjoon found it a little odd that the man would just willingly let them all into his house, but he supposed times were different. Namjoon got off the wagon, making sure that Suga followed after him. Hobi hopped down off the back of the wagon and followed behind them; Namjoon keeping his fingers gripping Suga's sleeve in case he tried to dart off after the man. Suga had his face turned behind him to watch Guy barely open the barn door enough to squeeze inside with the horse.

Namjoon entered the house, greeted immediately by darkness as they entered. The only thing that stood out in the darkness was the moonlight seeming to glow off Hobi's lime green outfit.

"Would you stop looking at Guy like he's some sort of murderer?" asked Namjoon as he turned to face Suga.

"He seems off to me," said Suga. "I can't help it. Do you forget that - before you made me human - I was a security system your grandfather invented?"

Namjoon sighed as he rubbed his free hand across his forehead.

"What about Guy is suspicious exactly?" asked Namjoon.

"His demeanor for starters," said Suga. "No one is that nice right from the jump start."

"Not true but go on."

Suga let out a brief growl of irritation at Namjoon's comment but decided to ignore it.

"Second of all, the fact that he wears black leather gloves in hot weather is alarming."

"He probably wears them to protect his hands while he uses the reins," said Namjoon. "Stop making it weird. Is there a third reason?"

"Do you even want to hear it since you think I'm being so irrational?"

"Yes, I do."

"The man wouldn't let you help put away the horses," said Suga, "And he won't even open his barn door enough to let anyone see inside."

"Now you're just being stupid," remarked Namjoon.

"I'm being stupid?! You asked why I don't trust him," said Suga. "You should trust my intuition. Seriously, there is something off about him. In not trusting me, you're the stupid one!"

"I think you're jumping to conclusions," said Namjoon. "Let's at least give him the night and then you can see if your opinions have changed. It's not like we can go anywhere anyway."

Suga grumbled under his breath as Hobi patted Suga on the back. None of them realized that Guy had finished putting away the horses and had been eavesdropping on their entire conversation from outside.
