4. Creation

Namjoon had never thought fried chicken was something fascinating until Hobi. Hobi was obsessed with it; looking like he was in a state of pure ecstasy with every bite. Namjoon wondered if Suga would be the same way, but he seemed more interested in flipping through his grandfather's journal that he had grabbed when they had been getting food. Namjoon was trying not to get irritated with the blatant disregard of his privacy.

"Don't you want to eat, Suga?" asked Namjoon as Suga flipped another page in the journal.

"Nope," he said without taking his eyes off the page before him.

"How about you at least tell me where you two suddenly came from?" suggested Namjoon as he tried to reach across the table for the journal; Suga moving it at the last second so that Namjoon's reach came up empty.

"I don't know the answer to that..." came Hobi's garbled reply around the partially chewed chicken in his mouth. He swallowed it before looking over at Suga and his studious study of the journal. "Do you?"

Suga let out a sigh as if he found both Hobi and Namjoon an inconvenience, finally lifting his head from the journal he'd been pursing to look at Namjoon.

"Your grandfather created the tech that is in this RV, so essentially he created us," said Suga. "He created us for you."

Namjoon felt his cheeks flush as he looked at Suga. He didn't understand how that could possibly be true.

"We were part of this RV that he installed to keep you safe," continued Suga, unphased by Namjoon's blushing. "He knew that you were alone and worried about you."

"He told you this?"

Suga shook his head as he closed the journal in his hands and slid it across the table towards him.

"It's in the journal," commented Suga.

"It is?"

Namjoon had looked through it earlier, but hadn't ever noticed an explicit section that talked about his grandfather creating a magical RV so he wouldn't be alone. Suga leaned across the table to flip the journal open, pointing out some sentences on the page. Namjoon looked down at them.

'I worry about him. I can see that the weight of everything is hidden behind his smile. I believe that someday - when this is all said and done - this gift will make him happy. He deserves to smile genuinely because he has helped me to do so.'

Namjoon felt his eyes misting with tears, closing the journal back up after he finished reading. Namjoon had visited his grandfather because he enjoyed his company. He had never once thought that his grandfather was able to see past his smiley facade to realize how lonely he felt and what a failure he felt like. Had he really programmed this magical RV for him to make him feel special?

"Is the chicken too spicy?" asked Hobi. "Is that what is making you cry?"

Namjoon jerked his head up at Hobi's words, not realizing that tears were softly tracking down his face as he shook his head.

"No. The chicken you're eating isn't making me cry," said Namjoon as he wiped at his cheeks. "Sorry."

Namjoon could tell Suga was still staring at him, looking back over at him.

"I was aware that we were for you when your grandfather programmed us," said Suga, "But I never thought being human was part of the bargain."

"Neither did I, but it's amazing, Suga!" said Hobi as he picked up an uneaten piece of chicken and held it out towards him. "Eat some! You have to experience it."

Suga looked down his nose at the piece of chicken that was being held in front of him before wrapping his fingers around it. Namjoon watched as he took a tentative bit of it, chewing it with a look on his face.

"That's hot."

"And amazing!" added Hobi with a wide grin, causing Namjoon to chuckle. He could see where he wouldn't be lonely with the two of them.

Suga swallowed the bite in his mouth before taking a sip of the drink that Namjoon held out to him. When he finished, Suga held his hand out for the journal again. Namjoon handed it back over without asking questions. Suga seemed to be able to make sense of his grandfather's notes more than him.

"There were supposed to be four other members that weren't created by him but that were found across time for you," said Suga as he spoke, flipping to those pages at the end of the journal that Namjoon remembered from last night. "Your grandfather said that we'd all be the perfect family; that we all needed each other."

"Yes. We needed each other and..."

"Hobi, I swear if you say 'this chicken' to end the sentence leaving your mouth, I will slap you," said Suga without tearing his eyes off the journal.

"Are you trying to tell me this RV can travel through time or something?" asked Namjoon.

"Yes," said Suga without missing a beat. "We have to go find these other members that are apparently lost."

"But how?"

"By following his hints," said Suga. "I don't necessarily remember who they were, but this will help guide us."

The journal was placed on the table again as Suga pointed out another sentence.

"The artist's work was cracked, decayed, and becoming forgotten. In my struggle to show him his worth, I lost him."

"We start from this first entry and work our way from there," said Suga.

"We?" asked Namjoon.

"Yes, we," said Suga with a sigh. "Even though I don't know how to feel about this being human thing, your grandfather wanted us to be here for you. I owe it to your grandfather for existing, so I'm going to try to help."

Namjoon was surprisingly touched by Suga's words as he nodded his head. Even though it seemed like a fantastic undertaking that he wasn't prepared for, at least he wasn't doing it alone.
